My Apologies, my local McDonalds is Belmont and were only just putting up the posters. and if you look at the McDonalds facebook recent posts you will see the hint for the promotion i just posted

      https://www.facebook.com/McDonaldsAU?ref=stream

      McDonald's Australia
We've got something huge coming (back after 13 long years) this week, and we think you're going to like it…a lot! Hint: Top Hat or Boot?

          keyboard warrior…

        • dual wielding, like a boss.

        • -3

lol, dont you realise the reason people are on this site is because they are too uneducated to get high paying jobs, hence the hatred of learning english.

        • +1

What are you doing here then?

    • +12

I am absolutely shocked that a self-proclaimed grammar expert like yourself would erroneously refer to the fast food chain as "McDonalds" instead of "McDonald's".

      Poor form, A3Australia.

      • -6

I am absolutely shocked that a self-proclaimed grammar expert like yourself would erroneously refer to the fast food chain as "McDonalds" instead of "McDonald's".

No need to be "shocked". As I have said before - I make plenty of mistakes. I just need to be told about them so I can, hopefully, not repeat them.

However, I note that kevin8441 wrote the same thing "My Apologies, my local McDonalds".

  • +6

Lol then I'd have to buy a new monopoly set :(

    • +8

Can the Monopoly money be printed?

      • My official Monopoly money just looks like it's printed on regular paper, so I'd have to say yes

        • +3

There's some downloadable money here at 'the official Monopoly fansite'.

          http://www.worldofmonopoly.com/fansite/index.php#

        • Thanks for that. Please refresh my memory, was the monopoly note printed double-sided or only on one side?
          Thanks.

        • +1

I doubt they'll call the cops if you hand them counterfeit monopoly notes.

        • Thanks for that. Please refresh my memory, was the monopoly note printed double-sided or only on one side?
          Thanks.

          1 side

        • Thank you : )

        • Counterfeit is counterfeit whether its fake real money or fake monopoly doesn't make a difference in the eyes of the law.

    • +1

You can buy monopoly replacement bills from a game store. Last I checked though it was $15 :/

    • +17

Lol, you know you're a true Ozbargainer if you pay with a $1 note (instead of $500), even though it has no "real" monetary value.

      • +7

no, u would pay with $500, and ask for change

  • +58

Reading the fine print: "No change will be given" - well, that's just outrageous! What sort of deal is this???

    • +3

Well, everyone in the shopping mill a frozen coke ON ME.

    • =/ I was wondering if they had change for a $500 bill.

      Alas…

    • "Monopoly Deal!"

  • +2

i lol'd at this part " No change will be given from Monopoly money". No deal. So i give them $20 for a $2 frozen coke and they get to keep my $18.

  • +34

    "Can I get a Coke?"
    "Is Pepsi okay?"
    "Is Monopoly money okay?"

    • +2

      Yes.

    • +1

      I lol'd so hard

  • +1
  • +5

Do they accept monopoly credit cards?

    • +40

I was about to just chuckle at your comment, then realised I ought to hit Google first to see if you could be serious about such a thing existing. I'm genuinely horrified to discover there really is an electronic banking version of this game. I realise that most people (myself included) don't use a lot of cash these days but one of the joys of this game is that kids can play with parents, and it improves their numeracy skills when they're counting out cash.

Looks like I'm adding another thing to the list of "Things That Were Better When I Was A Kid". #oldman

      • +32

I love the irony in the fact that you added a hashtag to this.

        • +17

          I call them poundtags #reallyoldman

  • +21

at least this is confirmation that soft drink / frozen coke really has no intrinsic cost to McDonalds

    • +37

Either that or monopoly money is worth a stack to them

      • +19

        Monopoly money laundering? :O

  • +2

I'm reluctant to give away my monopoly money meaning i'll have a incomplete set. However, will losing one monopoly bill, be worth it? Plus can't i just give a $1 bill, or a $1000 bill (smallest denomination) from the Monopoly U-build set? Doesn't say what monopoly set it'll accept. Honestly i'm rather confused as too why they doing this.

    • Surely it's not that confusing… it's just a simple promotion to generate hype about the upcoming Monopoly promotion… and the article link that rawm has just posted shows that the media have taken the bait!

      From the article:
"In the prize pool there's also more than one million cheeseburgers, two million sundaes and more than three million packets of small fries or fruit packs up for grabs."

Which means if there is a "1 in 5 chance of winning" they will do at least 30 million sales to just give away these freebies… we do eat alot of Maccas in Australia!

    • +2

If you have The Office monopoly set, you can pay with Schrute Bucks

      • and kevin will inevitably try to pay in cookies

  • +3

Do they accept gold chocolate coins?

  • +11

In other news, theft of Monopoly money rose by 500%

    • +7

      Counterfeiting by over 9000%

  • +1

I've seen places like Kmart selling monopoly money just by itself, for like $2 a whole set? Can anyone confirm please?

    • +1

No sold out as been Ozbargained!!!

      • +1

i went to kmart to get some a few years ago and it was $25 for the money or $30 for the new game. i went home and found some printable ones through google

  • +5

For all the people not wanting to give up their Monopoly money and have an incomplete set, what's stopping you from just printing some Monopoly money online?

I'm sure Macca's won't mind. After all, I'm sure the notes you give them are just going in the bin anyway

EDIT: Here you go, a link to a page of Monopoly money. Enjoy! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fOkjzJyECgo/T8c8bpsPmLI/AAAAAAAABC…

I wonder if you'll get a free apple pie for showing up dressed like either of these costumes…

Asked the girlfriend about this as she works there, she said there is a sign at her work saying this is also for frappes and smoothies. Well she said small fsb products, or the ones that use the small clear cups.

  • Time to get out the old Monopoly set…

  • +27

Oh the awkwardness of paying with Monopoly money and having the Maccas staff not know about the promotion…

    • +11

Go to Jail go Directly to Jail ;)

      • +8

get out of jail free card. zing!

      • +5

Do not pass go, do not collect a frozen coke

  • +9

If you have access to a printer, you can print your own monopoly money. Hasbro allows people to print their own monopoly currency.

    $1: http://www.mediafire.com/?kek2v1excsgvid6
    $5: http://www.mediafire.com/?zr1fefpv6l7oa22
    $10: http://www.mediafire.com/?k4odh46ejlomjpm
    $20: http://www.mediafire.com/?l154miv9jay7nse
    $50: http://www.mediafire.com/?rzggchwxfqh1rw9
    $100: http://www.mediafire.com/?pw4i7ui6jmym115
    $500: http://www.mediafire.com/?b56zqik6u3kc5zd

Now you can give $500 and tell them to keep the change.

    • +8

Do I really have to use my own printer?

How about I write up my own bills in tomato sauce on a serviette?

      • +6

        Never said "your printer"! :D

    • +6

Does the $500 note cover drinks for everyone in the restaurant?

      • +3

^This must be the reason why they made it a limit of 1 per transaction.

    • +4

Ahhh… time to make use of the $9 printer.

Now I'll be able to look like a high-rolla infront of the girls, flashing my notes awww yehhhhh

  • +3

monopoly money for a company that seeks to be a monopoly.

    • +1

Just out of interest, what monopolistic behaviour has McDonalds exhibited?

      • "a company that seeks to be a monopoly."

no specific behaviour, but more of a pondering of the concept that "wouldn't any company want to be the only company in it's niche/industry?"

In so far as Mcdonalds would rather not have hungry jacks, red rooster, etc to compete against for a market share.

just as microsoft would rather be the only OS software developer. or as De Beers enjoys a majority share of diamond production, or Scotland enjoys pumping out rangas.

  • i got lots of free fries/apple bags last time with their monopoly game. i just threw all my old stickers out but they did have a used by date but then its easy to get the common letters just need to figure out which ones they are early.

  • +27

I'm going to walk in there wearing a suit and dark sunglasses, along with a suitcase handcuffed to my wrist containing crisp $500 monopoly bills, wrapped around with white paper.

Then place the suitcase on the counter, flip the locks and swivel the open case facing the cashier and say with an emotionless face, "one frozen coke please"

  • +1

All I need to do is watch how pros counterfeit notes

  • +6

I'd rather just go to Hungry Jacks and get a LARGE Frozen Coke for $1 still!

I wonder how much $ Hungry Jacks is losing on that promo, and how much its impacted on Maccas's Frozen Coke sales?

    • +2

I don't even bother trying to get a $1 frozen coke at my local HJ'S if its above 30 degrees as the bloody machine can't handle the load.

      • "You want the $1 frozen coke?, you can't handle the $1 frozen coke!"

insert homer simpson quote "that's china town, baby"

  • +1

I'll go to the pub next door and ask if they monopoly match…..if maccas can do it so can they.

  • Heard this on the radio as well

  • +2

Just do it the new fashion way, display the PDF file on a tablet or iPhone, Andy should do.

  • http://www.maccasplay.com.au if anyone is interested

  • How to pay with paper money all the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vz_YTNLn6w

Someone should make a video of them getting their frozen coke with Monopoly money and put it up on YouTube. People from outside of Australia who don't know about this promotion will think you're amazing! (or a clever criminal…)

    • That guy is really good! But I hope he gives the fish and jewellery back

  • +1

got my coke with a dollar bill i printed out. counterfeiting monopoly money….i'm a badass now lol
