    lol outlander clone.

The slower these brands sell, the quicker they leave the Aussie market.
It’s MY26 season now, so MY24 and MY25 are a year and 2 years ago now..

    • +2

      Sadly leapmotor will outlast mitsubishi

      • -1

leapmotor have enough china money AND stellantis backing to outsell mitsubishi pretty quickly

people havent caught on yet but mitsubishi going to be selling TWO models in 2026… the triton and outlander… THAT'S IT

i wouldnt ever piss on leapmotor stellantis gǒu shǐ merde but theyre gonna be around for a long long time if they can excrete more EV crap yoy

        • +1

mitsubishi going to be selling TWO models in 2026… the triton and outlander… THAT'S IT

The new Mitsubishi ASX is due later this year, so there must be at least 3 models for Mitsubishi ;-)

          • +1

@oz-dave: "The Mitsubishi ASX in Australia is being replaced by a rebadged version of the Renault Captur in 2025 due to a new safety regulation."

excuse me but they can phuqq off into the sun with this shit

also this is a result of the nissan renault mitusbishi gangbang - those three can EAD

        • +3

          Mitsubishi Magna FTW.

      • +1

Probably already outsold them since the FBT exemption dropped for PHEV.

  • +1

I wonder if anyone paid full retail pricing on these cars?

    • +9

They'd have to turn in their OzB badge.

      • -1

I doubt they even know ozb exists

  • +6

If your looking for a plug-in hybrid I would wait for a Geely Starray.

    • -3

Thankfully no one wants plug in hybrids

    • Why would you buy a PHEV now that the FBT exemption has been removed? Previously they were all pre-tax on a novated lease but that ended earlier this year. Next, we'll be finding out in 2027 if the exemption for EVs is extended.

      • +2

Probably because their requriements still mean an ICE/PHEV is more suitable. I know loads of people who a pure EV makes little sense for. It'll change eventually, but there are still a mountain of reasons why. There is personal preference too. Im yet to find an EV i actually like enough to buy, and i keep looking.

        • +1

          Exactly

      • duh, cos it's a better car than petrol or diesel or hybrids.

  • +12

FYI on this car, if this matters to you, it doesn't have ACP or AA, nor will it be possible to upgrade the current units.

    • current owner of the REEV, don't think the cpu supports it but there is a dongle one can buy but still can't use steering wheel to skip tracks. The next OTA update due in Sep can only do screen mirroring so once you turn the screen off it's off too for the car

      • -5

Gotta be a hater - noone calls it a REEV

        • +2

          Erm, yeah they do?
There's a fairly significant difference between a hybrid, a PHEV and a REEV, which maybe you're conflating?
The REEV is a pretty popular tech nowadays from the Chinese companies like BYD and Leap.

          • -4

@Deviner: the word 'hybrid' encompasses many such technologies.

you guys fell for marketing of an inferior product.

            • +2

@eddyah: I think you should maybe investigate into these "many such technologies" as I don't think you understand any of them, let alone the differences between them.

Using "Hybrid" as an umbrella term nowadays is a bit stupid, given the variety of different approaches.

The REEV/EREV is a combustion engine being used as a range extender to supplement a large battery which drives the motors for, what would normally be, an EV.

That is completely different, and drives completely different, than something like a Camry "hybrid" which is almost the inverse of the above.

I could care less about Leapmotor cars, before you claim I'm some outraged fan.
I am interested in BYDs (moreso Denza) offerings here, though

              • -1

@Deviner: ahahaha you have both REEV and EREV - see what I mean marketing because you were tricked but refuse to acknowledge it.

I understand them all quite well. Show me fuel usage stats of a 'REEV' that's better than the toyota hybrid - can't do it? because the technology is inferior for what it's suppose to do.

                • +1

@eddyah: Any REEV/EREV will have far better fuel usage than a Toyota Hybrid.

                  • +1

@Big L: let me clarify: relying on fuel alone the toyota hybrid is superior.

no reev right now comes close.

just get an EV if you want simplicity and performance.

    • Can't you just sideload Waze or Google Maps on it? No need for CarPlay and AA if you can.

  • +5

What scale size is the $250 gift car???

    • 1:2

  • +8

Aah, Stellantis. The stench of failure.

    • Lol they do have Alfa, Dodge and Maserati though. But what sort of name is Leapmotor. You hear of Geely cause they own Volvo and Polestar but wth is Leapmotor

      • +1

Leapmotor is a thing that makes more sense in China, like writing "Build Your Dreams" on the back of a BYD.

    • +2

Leapmotor. From the company behind Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and, uh, Maserati, that recorded a 70% drop in net profit in 2024.

      • -2

those are all shitty ass toxic brands

admittedly they occasionally make some nice roadside art like the Quadrofoglio and the Granturismo but overall they suck… hard

BUT Leapmotor sounds better to me than geely… or BYD… or zeekr or xpeng or deepal or jaecoo or haval… or… phuq me the list goes on

        • Chery with one r!

          • @Morven: I'm waiting for the Chery iCar (stuff u Apple!)

  • +2

Bring it down. I am planning to buy a chinese car next year.

  • +3

$40k is still too much for these especially when Stellantis drops the brand in 6-12 months time and there wont be any support.

    • +1

no they won't, it's the only brand that's moving for them

      • +5

This promo of MY24 stock seems to suggest otherwise.

      • +1

Leapmotor Australia sales numbers are abysmal. They only sold about 40 cars in July compared to almost 500 for Geely.

        • Everyone with half a brain knows there is going to be a significant contraction in chinese car companies both in China and here. Especially here, we are but a back water after thought for sales and its as much about eroding the Japanese and Korean car companies viability as anything else. That type of rationalization has been seen in many industries in China, there is a well established pattern to how the government eventually lets the market play out and condense, people here just choose to forget it or more likely are totally oblivious to it.

          • @Xizor: theyre just not informed buyers

which is what the industry counts on

BUT I mean people buy VW products so there's heaps of punters to be seperated from their money….

            capitalism manifest

  • +3

Reviews of leapmotor seem pretty scathing. I would read/watch a few before handing over your hard earned.

      • The review you linked is actually fairly negative overall.

        • +2

I didn't think so, a ~7 rating and the "dislikes" weren't deal breakers. It wasn't a glowing endorsement but certainly not "scathing"!

          • +1

@Tex Texan: the problem is there similarly priced competitors without those downsides lol

            • @tonyjzx: Just starting to look at the hybrid/electric vehicle market as a possibility for Mrs Texan who desperately needs a new car.
From my brief search today, I was seeing a lot of "7.x" ratings from competitors, including many costing more.
Which ones around the $35-$40k mark would you suggest?

          • +3

@Tex Texan: A 7 is about as bad as it gets in car reviews.

            • +1

@Brick Tamland: this is the equivalent of IGN game rating of 7…. for the shut ins here

            • +1

@Brick Tamland: Exactly Car review sites don't really go lower than 7 for fear of losing advertising revenue from car companies.

  • none for me thanks

    • +10

I was only just wondering if you were getting one.

  • +2

Good luck getting vital parts after Stellantis drop this brand.

    • Maybe off Temu? lol

    • +3

China makes the best EVs, we just don't get to see the best of the best here because our population is tiny.

        • +1

Nio and Xpeng are pretty good, not sure what metric can be used to qualify best.

China is a much bigger market and naturally they will have the best EVs at some point if not already

          • @TEER3X: Best efficiency is the lucid.

            • @Brick Tamland: none of that matters if you cant buy the US cars here and also tesla seems pretty toxic here and also out there

the lucid air is a great car

its also a usd$75k luxury barge

        • Well tbf Australian Teslas are Chinese made.
Mrs Entropy drives a range of EVs at work, a few Chinese models, polestars (repeat myself, but Volvo) Teslas and Korean. So regular use of all types.

She says she would go the Hyundai or Kia first off, then Tesla. She doesn’t enjoy the polestars or cheaper MGs etc.
          Doesn’t have leapmotor at work.

          • @entropysbane: Chinese made is not the issue. It’s Chinese design that’s toilet water.

My first preference for an EV would be Hyundai too but they are priced a little to crazy.

    • +1

Mate even the Euro and some Korean EV's are made by Chinese car manufacturers and i don't just mean they make them the parts or batteries or assemble them (ala Tesla's) which is also a thing, i mean the car is basically built on the same platforms as these "Chinese made electric cars" … as they say if you can't beat them, join them.

    • +1

You are the one delusional. 1 year old owner with a Chinese and electric car and no major issues with the car.

  • +1

    "$250 gift car" - now that's a price war

    • I've heard Toyota are winding back production as they cant compete against such incentives.

      • Toyota are still doing exceptionally well. They don’t need to provide incentives to sell their cars.

  • … Costco sell cars?

Can this be refueled conveniently in my garage, or do I need to venture out to one of those super dangerous petrol stations that could explode at any moment?

    • -6

tbf they can set your house on fire

EVs are known to do that

but also hyundais but at least they have to manners to do it on the road

      • -3

wow look at the korean car ballwashers out there

also hundais like to grenade engines every so often

        truth hurts

        • +1

It's not about being "Korean ballwashers", it's about your misinformation and anti-EV bullshit rhetoric.

they can set your house on fire. EVs are known to do that

They are "known" to do that? Source? Just how many house fires have there been in Australia directly attributed to a fault with the electric car or any part of the electric car's systems? (I can find about 1, and it's kind of too early to tell as the findings on the start of the fire have not been released.)

Would you like to compare how many house fires have started because of an EV (that wasn't a cheap Chinese unregulated scooter or AliExpress ebike conversion) to how many house fires there have been with relation to ICE vehicles?

also hyundais but at least they have to manners to do it on the road

What, you mean, like this Hyundai or did you mean this Hyundai or was it this Hyundai. Were they not actually in the house when they caught fire? At least they had the manner to do it outside.

I am not suggesting that EV's dont catch fire, because they can, just like any ICE vehicle can catch fire. Both types of fires are very dangerous and the risks are not to be ignored. The only issue here is the suggestion that EV's are "known" to cause house fires, which is just blatant scare campaign bullshit. There is no proof that EV's are "known" to cause house fires at a higher rate than ICE vehicles.

So, no, just because people dont agree with your brainwashed "woke leftist greenie" hate monologue doesn't make them "Korean ballwashers".

No Apple Carplay / Android is not helping sales and it won't get updated until the platform is updated.

Wait and see what the B10 (smaller size) is going to bring.

  • +1

Has anyone here driven one? Apart from @evilbamboo?

    No? Then STFU.

    • +3

I bought the C10 BEV and absolutely love it… it's a bargain for that much car:
      - it's extremely spacious, seats are really comfortable, good quality all around, technology that is above and beyond what I've seen in this price range
      - I'm using a Carlinkit dongle (cost $70) for Carplay and it works great (doesn't fully integrate with all steering wheel buttons, but screen is so big, I just use that mainly anyway)
      - have tried 3 different public fast chargers and they work perfectly, charging at home is too easy (only have a granny charger at the moment)
      - Comes with slow charger for home and Type 2 cable for public charging at no extra cost
      - apart from the annoying ADAS bings and bongs (which are pretty easy to turn off - just swipe and tap) I really can't fault it in any major way
      - I think people will be genuinely surprised if they have a look and drive it in person
      - Leapmotor is selling a ton of these in the UK (and Europe in general) mainly due to great pricing and some leasing deal
      - I probably wouldn't have paid $50K, but low 40s is amazing value

      • thats probably the experience of just about every chinese ev even the carplay android auto clownery

they've basically commoditised the ev ownership experience

      • +1

This has been my exact experience as well. 100% agree with all said @tpopi… Low 40s is right number for BEV Design given all the risks, limitations. I'm loving mine.

  • Does it make sense to novate lease these?
    Or is that novate fleece?

For 3rd tax bracket. 10,000 kms annually?

Serious question for a mate, I don't want her to, Dave Ramsay says never to lease. But with evs, are there some Fbt tax concessions?
