    • G6 is much smaller, not really same market segment as SL7

      • it's the same size, same size segment

    • +2

I had my first service with BYD (Atto 3) booked for next week and they just called to cancel it as they no longer deem the first service necessary. So a bit of a saving there

      • The first service was free for every byd owner i know so idk

        • Oh good point, just noticed it's a complimentary service. I guess no savings for me :(

    • I chose the SL7. I wanted the G6, but the nearest dealer is 3 hours away and there's too much uncertainty on their distribution model. Which you can read about in the car's Whirlpool thread. Good chance this OG G6 is better than the refurb though.

That'll happen when you live in a small country town like Canberra.

      • Ordered mid April, was told 6-8 weeks. Car has just arrived in Australia and pick up is likely next week. So 6-8 weeks turned in to 5 months.

  • +4

They don’t need oil changes or filter replacements. But service is more expensive than Toyota/Hyundai, why?

    • People don’t work for free

    • +2

Wheels still spin, fluids move, Still stuff like transaxles, bearings, battery cooling, motor cooling fluids and filters.
Then the battery may need a balance / BMS check…always something.
Then lets not forget firmware updates/ subscriptions…urghhh

      • they may have to change battery and motor coolant who knows how much they root you for it

        • Same as a radiator.
Remove sump plug. Drain. Clean filter. Replace.
DIY takes about 10 mins and the fluid was about $50 .

    • Economies of scale.

  • Servicing price is the same as my QASHQAI for 5 years $1990.
Seems excessive for just an inspection

    • nissans baring the GTR diesel and 400r have v. cheap servicing given they use cheap oil

  • +1

New version of G6 has been released everywhere, except Australia.

  • +1

Tesla is the only EV car company doesn't require servicing.

    • +1

It requires servicing just a matter of when

Reminds me of that spreadsheet from Tesla owners club WA where 4 year TCO for model 3 is cheaper than a Camry but they started loading up the Camry with cost of tyres and servicing.

Just because you can push it back doesn't mean there is non consumption through driving or just time.

      • Yeah, rather do it when it is required. Rather make it mandatory, or void warranty if you don't do it.

  • +1

This is one good looking car, certainly turns heads. Would need to go to Porsche suv territory to get similar looks wise….

    • They look the same as a Tesla model y

    • yeah nah the macan is a much better looking vehicle

The G6 is a bit of a bubble butt, which is a polarising look

    • looks quite subjective.. I personally find the G6 a bit ugly, G9 looks nicer

  • +6

These feel overpriced now that you can get a Zeekr 7X (Geely's luxury brand) for under $58k.

    • +2

I think when you line up the base model 7X with the long range G6 it isn't such an easy choice for 2k difference.

  • Wait for Tesla model YL for fsd.

    • +1

Don't think it will come to Australia, or at least anytime soon.

  • +9

Still a bit Xpengsive. I'm waiting for a 5-10k discount

  • why would I not buy BYD instead?

  • Just saying, they should prolly put abit more effort into QA for their website and product page. Half of the captions in the banner are cropped off and feels clunky to scroll.

    • I test drove a G6 in April. The car's software felt a bit like your experience with the website.

Before any G6 owners hunt me down with pitchforks, I'd assume Xpeng have ironed out some of the issues since then.

    • Just like every other Chinese car manufacturer that are reselling through a third party in this country?

  • waiting for X9

  • Is servicing still done through (anti-ev) ultratune?

  • +3

On one hand i'm happy that increased competition puts more downward pressure on every brand.

On the other hand, there's so many chinese EV brands now that i'm fatigued trying to keep ontop of who or what they are. Add to that the fact that more brands = smaller slices of pie for each brand = more liklihood of any particular brand pulling the plug after a few years and any parts/warranty/support is going to go poof with it.

I saw a deepal s07 over the weekend and have to say it's a great looking car but i have serious reservations about whether deepal as a company is even going to be solvent let alone in australia in 10 years time. Considering how much of a car is software now, are we at a stage where 6 year old cars that are perfectively usable mechanically, are no longer functional due to software issues and or lack of parts because their manufacturers go bust?

This is a well documented problem for the tesla roadster which can brick for particular reasons; and tesla themselves aren't interested in getting involved to unbrick them. Considering they were USD 250k cars when new it's crazy when any other car in that price range from 2010 would be perfectly usable today.

I'd actually rather there only be 3-4 bigger players (much like there's 3-4 major german makes, and 3-4 major japanese makes, and 2-3 major korean makes) at least i'd have more confidence that the warranty would be worth the paper they're written on.
A car make cannot financially justify having operations in australia if they're selling only a few dozen cars a month; it's purely a numbers thing.

  • +2

Why are they charging to service an EV then advertising a deal you save on the unneeded servicing?

Haven’t paid a single service fee for my Tesla since I’ve owned it, what’s to service ?

    • Everything that spins, brakes, fluids and software.

    • 100% agree, there is not much to do. Tesla every 2 years recommends windscreen washer solution and cabin filter ($50 DIY) every 4 years is to check brake fluid. Tyre rotation is recommended but not essential.

  • +3

Only big worry for me is Xpeng refuse to release their sales figures. Almost every other major eV company happily publish their monthly sales. Huge red flag, I have a feeling they don’t publish their figures because they know if they show they only sell 50 or 100 cars per month, when you have Tesla, BYD and Geely in the thousands, it would scare away buyers, because who is going to invest in a $60K car with almost no dealer network, no parts in the country and very little sales.

Insurance cost for Xpeng are through the roof as they have absolutely zero parts in Australia so expect to be a rental car for atleast 3 months waiting for a bumper. Check the Facebook group to read all the complaints.

I would go a BYD sealion 7 or Tesla Juniper for peace of mind if you have to buy now.

    • According to their ceo (trueev) there were supposed to be 1000 deliveries during August. I’m yet to see one on the road.

      • +2

if they are imported by TrueEV then give them a pass

as a rule dont buy an EV unless its supported directly by the manufacturer… ie. gwm and mg etc.

eg. we know Leapmotor is an ateco stellantis company so you're relying on ateco for local support

if a car company is so small it needs an importing company like TrueEV then you are asking if TrueEV is going to be around in 10yrs time….

  • +3

Not sure why an EV cost over $2000 to service for 5 years. It should just be all checks, tyre rotation and a few sets of cabin filters.. $400 at most..

    • +2

Yeh the car service itself costed almost nothing over 4.5 yrs for me. Like less than $150. I only chose to get a new set of tyres for safety at 45k~50k mark as I'm pedantic. So normally Tesla EVs are very economical to own/run. I also read about one example above that someone drove like 330k km or so, which is amazing….

      • I want a Telsta as well but the fact that they get keyed because people hate em and also giving money to that guy…

        • they're also old

like the model 3 is CLEARLY from 2018 and they keep updating them but like i'm guessing they want to run them until 2030 because new platforms cost money

  • +3

Ok i had model 3 2021 SR+ until last month, with moderate use of 15000 km/year. The only service costs were a set of new tyres and alignment ($1100) at 45000km mark, AC filter change (parts only, $50ish?, labour = free (me)), tesla mobile service call out for tyre rotation ($75). Total cost <$1300 for 4 years ~65000 km… was very happy with the ownership and the car drove superbly. Only gripe was when the ceo has gone nuts we were worried about vandalism but the ceo has gone quiet(er) now all g.

  • What is an xpeng never heard of it

    • +2

It's another experiment that some people are paying to partake in.

      • -2

these are people who are super invested and willing to spend $60k on a badge i assume they've done some research into

even in this thread there's a few buyers

as i say every key has a lock and there must be people out there buying deepal or leapmotor or whatever or they wouldnt be here

        • Yep each to their own. Rolling the dice on a car is a big decision though, so Goodluck to those trying a new entrant to the market. There will be some immediate pain in insurance costs too.

  • This car turns heads. Random people will ask you "Is that really an XPENG?"

  • +2

I'll take the Model Y over this every day of the week.

    • Is this the reason why tesla sales are plunging

      • -2

        I didn't say buy

        • +1

with that flag i'm not surprised

          shalom

          • @tonyjzx: Teslas were promised to him 3,000 years ago

  • +1

Awesome car, have one in the driveway now. Quick, economical and drive nice. Unlike Tesla who charges you thousands for simple options, everything is included.

    • Nice. What do you think so far? Worth buying in terms of driveability and range?

  • I test drove one a few weeks ago in Coburg. The folks there were pretty helpful and not pushy at all.

I really loved the car. That one had a nice whitish interior which was very cool. Loved everything except that all controls were via touchscreen. Minimal design but would have appreciated a few manual ones. I am not a car expert but I thought it drove sublimely. And the ride quality was pretty good. How did a tech company pull this off?

They said facelift arrives early next year but will be priced higher than the $59k odd. I don't know, if I get a smashing deal on one even if its used or a demo I might just get one on a Novated lease.

The only turnoff and its a silly reason. Xpeng is named after the founder. Fair enough. Ferrari and lambos etc also went the same route and are iconic brands today but this is so new. Only time will tell if it will continue to stay on.

For those worrying about the brand in general, Volkswagen has tied up with it for EV making and its selling in heaps in China. Is listed in the HK and NY stock markets so has a few things going for it. Many brands do not report to VFACTS including Tesla and Polestar. Have seen quite a few Xpengs here in melb.

    • How are we getting telsa and polestar monthly sales figures then?

      • From google: "Since their withdrawal from FCAI reporting, Tesla and Polestar's sales figures are reported to the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC)."

        • So why can't xpeng (trueev) do the same?
