Sony PS3 40GB console - $599

71

I know some of you guys missed the Domayne $599 PS3 deal.
Here is a deal for those of you that want the console hardware alone, without having to get the various bundled PS3 units with games going on for $699 or so.

It's 40Gb drive, vs 80Gb. But as we all do anyway, you'll rip out the small drive, and stick in a 250Gb (or greater) 2.5" SATA HDD anyway. (Sony let's you do this, there is even a HDD format, backup and restore function on the PS3 & the manual talks about adding extra OS to your PS3.. etc)

Disclaimer: Unclear from the ad. if it's Dual Shock 3 controller (with vibration) - I doubt it.

The Wow stores are non-metro (to Sydney anyway), so if you're interested, $18.50 Star Track Express delievery (to Syd) or use the ad to price match.

  • Alright I suppose but I think the $690's with the larger HDD is a better deal, especially now some stores are offering up to three games for that price as opposed to one (HN and EB were last week according to their sites anyway). Even if you didn't want the games you could sell them or put two of the three towards a trade in towards another and even if you replace the HDD a larger one will be more useful elsewhere or possibly sell for a bit more.

Not sure whether the 40GB's came with dual shock 3 controllers as mentioned above which could further dampen the deal.

    • Sure thing Smigit, this deal was intended more for ppl. whom were wanting the hardware itself (as stated), like me.

I use the unit primarily as a:

      1) Blu-ray 1080p player with HDMI output
      2) DivX & Music multi-media unit to stream from other sources via WiFi
      3) DVD Upscalling player
      4) Use the PS3 as an Open Platform device for other O/S' like Ubuntu

      5) Play the occasional game.

      • Funny how people don't actually use it to play games!

    • 40GB consoles came with Sixaxis controllers- non dual shock versionn.
A much better deal http://ebgames.com.au/PS3/home.cfm for $99 more.

  • Nothing wrong with the 40Gb model - I consciously bought it knowing I'd never fill the hard drive. Lets be honest, the average user has about 10 games, plays the odd movie and streams some movies or music from their network, maybe downloads some free content via the playstation network. I'm personally of the opinion the HDD size in the PS3 is a marketing ploy, anyone with a PC and wireless network can simply store any PS3 content there if the hard drive fills, which for 99% of users im sure it never does.

    • Yeah 40GB hdd is fine, but as above for $690 you can get a pack with 3 games and given different stores have different games I'd imagine most people can get one with at least one title they want and they can do a trade two for one newer one at JB if they want something else.

I'd imagine most PS3 owners want a game in which case you may as well get the other pack if only for the free titles. This ones better for those that don't plan to game on the console.

You can still pick up an 80GB PS3 + game bundle for $627 from Domayne, $28 more than this offer, unless you think the extra 40GB + DualShock 3 + a game is not worth $28!

Or you get the $698 EB bundle as suggested above, it's not like you can just get a PS3 without ever needing a game.

and DSE have the 40GB + game at $599 anyway, given you can find one that has stock

  • I received a Domayne Castle Hill (NSW) flyer in my mailbox last week for 80GB PS3 for $599 (no mention of free game). I'm not sure if they're still selling it for $599 or it was an old ad.

Bit harsh to neg this deal - I dont think I've ever seen a 80gb with free game around $627 in my neck of the woods (I would have grabbed another one if I had) - Noslee next time you see an offer that good post it for the rest of us ;-)

  • So you neg because its not the best deal on the planet? We don't all live near a Domayne (in fact there isnt even one in SA)

Some people on here are real party poopers, negs discourage new users from posting new legitimate deals which to 99.9% of users on here are greatly appreciated.
