IPv4 and IPv6, Carrier Grade NAT and Static IP address

IPv4 and IPv6 is enabled for new and existing customers.

New customers are put on CG-NAT and this doesn't affect most users. CG-NAT can be turned off for $0. What is CG-NAT?.

Static IPv6 address is included at no extra cost on all plans. Login to the Leaptel portal on their website to enable a Static IP.

Static IPv4 address can be purchased for $10/month (optional) on all plans except 2000/500. Using a Static IP turns off CG-NAT.

Static IPv4 and Static IPv6 address is included at no extra cost on 2000/500. Using a Static IP turns off CG-NAT. Login to the Leaptel portal on their website to enable a Static IP.

1000/100 $99/m is good for 12 months. $85-$89/m deals are usually for 6 months.

$5-$10/m for an optional Static IPv4 is normal.

  • I'm still a few months into my 12 months discount. If I upgrade to the 2gb and see no use can I downgrade again? (Without losing the discount)

    • Likely no! But talk to them about it.

    • I have asked support this in the past and they said the discount only applies to the current speed, you can't chop and change.

  • Has the nbn upgraded already?anyone speeds increase?

    • Is it supposed to be active from today ?

      • +1

14 sept. Mine speed dropped from 250 to 79mb

    • Some have gone through going by posts on here.

      • Yes gone.

    • Yes last night … my 1000/50 —> now 1000/100

      • Mine dropped to 50 from 260

    • Haven’t seen my hcf change yet, still only 50 up

    • my uploads didnt change.
im getting 500 down but only 19 up

      • Is it more?

  • My address is now ready for FTTP but it says an appointment is required:

    Ready to connect (appointment required)
Your address is serviceable by the nbn® but additional works are required. You can order your service with us today and we'll schedule in an appointment for a technician to complete your installation.
Your connection type is Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

As I understand it, an NBN Co technician (not the ISP) will come out to install the two boxes (NBN utility box outside + NBN connection box/ONT inside).

Once that’s done, the ISP activates the service remotely.

My concern: I’d like to avoid a “ping-pong blame game” where an ISP support person says “NBN didn’t install properly” and NBN says “call your ISP”.

For those who’ve recently done a first-time FTTP install, which ISP is the most knowledgeable and smooth to deal with at this stage?

    • I ultimately think it's.. Gonna be pretty similar with most.

I haven't had an upgrade but my parents went from fttc to fttp, with iinet (so, tpg). They had to come out twice (nbn, not ISP) due to needing some extra work done but it wasn't anyone's fault really, just due to old wiring etc, so they kept the old connection in temporarily til they fully activated the new one, so no downtime.

Since then it's been super stable/easy. Something that tripped me up because of course my parents didn't tell me, lol, you need pppoe for fttp connections so you'll get a login. I have hfc which doesn't require this so when I swapped their router I got confused why local networking worked but wasn't getting internet heh.

But yeah they actually did a good job cable routing with proper pipe mounts along the wall and then into the house/box. But ymmv with installer

      • PPPoE is used by iiNet. Most providers use IPoE with FTTP.

        • +1

Ohhhh. Good to know. Thought it was universal.

  • Download/Upload Speed Promo Price Ongoing Price Technology ISP
500/50 $79.95/month for 12 months $92.95/month FTTP and HFC Leaptel
    500/50 $68.90/month for 6 months $88.90/month FTTP Tangerine

And it does look that Tangerine is cheaper in their 500/50 Speedy Max plan?

    • Leaptel is 12 months and Tangerine is 6 months.

      • Tangerine is cheaper by $12.60 over the span of a year ($959.4 vs $946.8)

        • +1

FTTP upgrade with 500/50 is $69.95/month for 12 months @ Leaptel.

          $839.40 Leaptel vs $946.80 Tangerine.

Leaptel is the shiznit. Been using them for a while now and they're rock solid. No CC fees, forced direct debit on a specific day or 30 days notice rubbish like Superloop.

  • -2

Morenbn just increased their prices. Crap
    Just now

    • Increased for what plans? Looks the same today as it did yesterday

      • -2

        All the planes

        • What prices are you seeing? I see no difference in prices to previous. E.g. 1000/50 for $129. 100/20 for $100 (pre yello discount)

  • -1

Wait, i thought this deal had the cheapest 2gb plans…
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/923523

    • +1

Launtel costs more but has the flexibility to change speeds daily.

      • +2

I was being sarcastic. This deal is definitely cheaper and better.

  • ELI5: how is this a deal given other providers are offering 6months 100=>500 for around 65, like Dodo? Is it for people after those specific things like no CGNAT, static IP, or people who don't want to churn that often?

Relatively new to shopping and churning around for NBN (HFC), previously got away fine with just a Kogan Mobile prepaid SIM lol.
Used Dodo first 6 months, Origin/Superloop coming up to 6 months so shopping around again. Can't get the Arctel $50 so Dodo is leading again.

  • I spoke with support again who advised a strict wait period of 12 months before you're eligible for the promo price, regardless of going to a higher plan. HFC NTD is self install as well. You get put on a pre-plan update price until you receive the new NTD then the service will get switched over once that's connected. ABB are releasing their new plans tomorrow meanwhile SL are still silent.

    • Any idea how long it takes for the NBN tech to come out and swap over to a new NTD?

      • +1

HFC is self install so you just gotta wait for it to be sent in the mail.

  • Any good deals on 2.5gbe 16-24 port managed switches ?

  • Hurry up Superloop. I'm tempting to just order the 2000/500 plan

    • I think Superloop is tomorrow.

      • I would hope so, I too am getting impatient.

    • +1

I was told by the cancellations team that it's due on the 18th.

      • +1

Thanks for that. Look like only 200 up with 2000 down. I will speaking to them this Friday about my options. I want the fastest.

        • Superloop will have 2000/500 but I think they will ask for an ABN.

        • I just read the CIS properly and it states the 19th.

  • +1

Anyone know when Opticomm networks are going to get faster options? Still limited to gigabit..

    • +1

Unfortunately us opticomm folks always get shafted. Lower speed AND we’re paying a lot more.

  • $99 for the most standard and low level 1000/100 is a terrible price. 69 would actually wb considered a deal.

    • nbn 1000/100 wholesale price is nearly $74/m. ISPs would be making a loss at $69/m 1000/100.

  • Can Asus ax86u handle 2000/100? 😁

Turns out, it has 2.5g WAN

    • Asus RT-AX86U has 2.5G WAN however it's limited to Gigabit on the LAN ports. You may get over Gigabit on Wi-Fi 6 at a close range.

Look at upgrading to the Asus RT-BE86U for 2.5G WAN and LAN.

      • +1

Hmm great info, I need a new router. For now 1000/100 is awaited, will see if I get a decent deal on WiFi7 router

        • +1

          November during Black Friday deals.

  • just signed up - they advised a delay due to the NBN upgrades coming through. Anyone know how long this could be?

    • +1

It could be anything from a couple hours or tomorrow.

  • Hey all, as a tech noob, I signed up for the deal but am not sure what modem would be the best OzB choice for 1000/50 speed - do you guys have any suggestions?

We live in a 2 story house which is fairly spread out. We have been using a relatively cheap merchants halo mesh set up with the NBN router for now.

  • ABB have also launched their 2gb plans, $189 for 2000/100 HFC 😂

    • +1

Yeah not worth it for 2000/100-200 $189/m. Aussie BB is only competitive for 2000/500.

  • +1

    Kudos for your efforts @Twix

Do any of these offer VOIP with free international calls to Japan as part of their packages?

    • All good. They usually charge extra for international VoIP.

  • So guys, what is the cheapest way to get a new HFC NTD?

    • +2

$0 when you signup for nbn HFC 2000/100. Go back to say 1000/100 after 1 month if you want.

      • Yeah, is this the cheapest 2G deal so far?

        • +1

Yeah for 1 month. Launtel 2000/100 $6/day should work instead of paying the whole month.

      • What is the benefit of the new NTD if you aren't going to keep 2gb?

        • +2

You are right. The only benefit of the 2.5GbE nbn HFC NTD is for 2000/100.

  • +2

SL is also $165/m (without the promo) in case anyone is wondering.

    https://files.superloop.com/cis/residential/nbn/2025-09/SL_C…

    • +1

I'm waiting to see if they match $155/m or less. Superloop are not taking 2000Mbps orders yet.

      • +1

Disconnections can waive my 30 day notice but said the new plans are due on the 18th and they could offer me a $10 discount. Who would you go with for the same price?

        • How long is the $10/m discount for?

  • +2

The Geek in me just soo wants a 2000/500 connection. Why ? Because I can.. and I have memories of getting excited at work many many years ago i when ordering 1MB data services when they were the fastest you could get.

  • My plan says 500 but still only getting 100. I assume it's my line that's bad and not my router or anything?

    • +1

Login to the Leaptel portal on their website and kick your session. You may need to reboot your router after that.

      1. Is your router QoS setting off?
      2. What is the brand and model number of the router?
      • +1

        Cheers - that sorted it.

  • Upgraded to 2000/100 on HFC - Linux isos have never downloaded so quickly. Question, anyone getting stability issues - seemed to happen alot for the first 24 hrs when I got the new NTD. Usually fixed when I reboot the NTD. Any tips ? Running TPLINK Archer BE230 wifi 7 router, but rebooting that doesnt seem to make a difference. Talk me out of upgrading to a ubiquity unit.
