        • keen for some VIC love also. Tried the Manna Beans and wasnt a big fan, so will try bay beans next….

  • Great deal. Thoroughly looking forward to delivery! Thanks James.

  • I'm near the 'Bay', the real 'Bay'…Byron Bay! Any chance of a KG up my way the home of Caddies Coffee and Byron Beans?..0~o

    • What about Summer Bay?

Northern NSW - absolutely. give me a week to put something together.

  • Cool, I'll wait with the Lelit raring to go!

    • which one do you have?

    • I'm in the Bay also Luc, have bought previously from James and just setting up a subscription for monthly beans now as this special triggered my memory, honestly I have not found beans quite as good as these. I highly recommend super crema (I'm about to try a variety next purchase) I ground a kilo of it and I can't seem to pour a bad shot, strong and smooth every time, I was very impressed, hopefully wasn't a fluke :)
I haven't tried this particular blend but I'm sure its great also, enjoy.

  • Hi James. I would love to get a kg. How much to ship to Gladstone QLD? Not exactly the coffee capital of the world, sadly.

    • You'd be surprised! Can you hold off for a week?

      • Sure can

      • Thanks for the Aus-wide free shipping. Just bought a kg!

AT LAST!! Fantastic deal, thanks James. We've been consistently asking for some good deals on quantities smaller than 2 kg for the last two and a half years! All it takes is persistence and some friendly competition from mannabeans :).

I think the mannabeans deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93639), even though $2 more, is potentially a better deal because delivery is Australia-wide (it doesn't matter if you live in the middle of woop-woop and you don't have to grovel in the comments for delivery to your location) and no waiting time (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93570?page=1#comment-124936…).

James, to think you were about to give up on OzBargain—(http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/44257). Now nearly two years later, it looks like you'll be achieving your first post with 100+ positive votes (or very close)!!

  • Your pricing structure confuses me. On your website it says for 1 kg of Forte beans:

    1kg (Save $16 + Free Delivery) $36.70 AUD

Save $16 on what? In fact with every type of bean and quantity of bean on your website it says the same thing (save $xx)?

    Eg., Premium Reserve:

    2 x 1kg (Save $32 + Free Delivery) $99.40 AUD

I've never seen you sell Premium Reserve for $131.40. In fact, in this deal you claimed the value was $95.80 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/42277). I know that was a while ago, but really, who do you think you are kidding with pricing like $131.40?

    Congrats on your current deal!!

    • I've never seen you sell Premium Reserve for $131.40

@James.I have a Lelit PLO42EM, nice machine and the built in grinder is a real bonus the only problems I've had with it is dealing with Jetblack Expresso.com.au, awful service from a company that doesn't really care about their customers machines and by default the customer.

Looking forward to some of your coffee.

        • email me for a sneaky side deal ;-)

  • Excellent company, excellent service, excellent people and excellent coffee.
Have had a few Kilos of most types now (not touching decaf), and is on the top of the list ( have tried around 40+ different types/brands now)
Keep coming back (still like testing/trying) but don't test as many now before buying a bay bean bag.

  • FREE DELIVERY NOW AVAILABLE AUSTRALIA WIDE

Yeah for competition!! Although I suspect it was a marketing ploy in the first place to get lots of comments and post attention (initially it was Sydney-only and you had to request in the comments to get the offer in your town).

How long will it take if I order today before I get the beans? Will it be wait a week like you said to another poster here?

    that and a bit more here (thanks to the time machine);
    http://web.archive.org/web/20120421174905/http://www.baybean…

1 kg for $77.40!! Wow!! Now I know how you could do those 60%+ off deals.

So how long is the current sale on your website for?

    • orders are going out same/next day, so no one week wait. You might be refering to the 'next deal' wait time.

      • -1

[…] Can you hold off for a week?
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93570?page=1#comment-124936…

Funny how a little competition changes things.

        • Yup - thats a week refering to deal time for their area. not delivery. thought your comment last night was strange about wait time - I now see what you're talking about.

to clarify, there is no wait on deliveries.

        • -1

[…] thats a week refering to deal time for their area.

to clarify, there is no wait on deliveries.

You mean from this morning. You are contradicting yourself. It was a different story yesterday for the Gladstone customer.

You didn't answer my previous question:

So how long is the current sale on your website for?

        • Camel - thats refering to the deal being available for Gladstone, but I understand your confusion. Its clarified now - there is no delay on orders going out.

the deal expires 28th Feb, or while stocks last for Premium Reserve. Its also in the deal expiry section and in the item description.

          thanks

        • -2

So orders for Gladstone will be dispatched today/tomorrow?

[…] Can you hold off for a week?
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93570?page=1#comment-124936…

That's what you said yesterday, so has your story changed this morning or not?

        • Yes - there was a week for the 'bargain' to be available to Gladstone - it was originally Sydney only.

Yes, orders to Gladstone will be dispatched today / tomorrow.

        • -3

Thank god—I got one straight answer.

My query regarding the current sale time-frame for products on your website; still no straight answers.

          http://www.baybeans.com.au/buy-coffee-beans.html

All bean products (8 in total) you have listed there have (Save $xx…)

        • Hit me up on email, or call me and I will go through it in more detail. thanks.

        • -1

I don't need detail, just a simple answer to a simple question.

How long is the sale for in the shop on your website?
          http://www.baybeans.com.au/buy-coffee-beans.html

        • camelgrass, you REALLY need some coffee. And to learn how to read! And some manners. baybeans has already answered that question.

        • -6

No, James invariably misunderstood my question. That is my fault too because my question probably wasn't clear enough initially but I have clarified my question since.

His answer to my question was:

the deal expires 28th Feb, or while stocks last for Premium Reserve. Its also in the deal expiry section and in the item description.

His answer indicates that he thought I was talking about the Bay Beans current OzBargain deal (the deal we are on now). That is not what I meant. I was talking about his "Sale" prices in the shop section of his website.

          The clarified questions I posed:

My query regarding the current sale time-frame for products on your website; still no straight answers.
          http://www.baybeans.com.au/buy-coffee-beans.html
All bean products (8 in total) you have listed there have (Save $xx…)

How long is the sale for in the shop on your website?
          http://www.baybeans.com.au/buy-coffee-beans.html

If you go to his online shop (I linked to it above) and browse all the products, prices and quantities, you will see that every single entry has (Save $xx […]).

"Save" indicates a sale or discount on normal pricing so I simply ask the question "how long is the sale on for"? Practically all stores advertise a sale start and end date. But I can not find anything on the Bay Beans website about this.

          Hence my question.

  • Hey James

Thank you for the great deal.

Had a small favour to ask that I sent through to your email (Beaumaris, VIC)

Are you able to confirm if that was ok with you?

    Thanks in advance!

    • +1

Hi - just read your email - absolutely no problems, I will take care of it with a smile!

      • Legend - Thanks a tonne!

  • How does robusta compare with a non-robusta blend? I've heard it's significantly more bitter, and generally is used in small amounts in a blend to increase crema? However I note that in this blend it's the main bean.

    • There are some rubbish Robusta out there, just like there is rubbish arabica. Focus on high quality beans, which is what is in this one.

It is so refreshing and delightful to see competitors encouraging each other. Kudos to both Manna and Bay for their fab attitudes.

        • +1

I'd love to have a shot with manna, cause ma-nna's me mate!

  • Already bought the Manna Beans deal but I want to try Bay Beans as well - hopefully you have another deal going similar to this in around 1 month :)

  • Congratulations on the 100 +

If only I had more than 1 to give I would have.

    • Thanks OzB! 100+!!!

    • Congrats on your first 100+ deal James.

You've come a long way since your plagiarism days ;).

But sincerely, thanks for listening to the community over the years and taking the good with the bad.

It took some competition to get there, but wishing you many more 100+ deals in the future!!

  • Hi James, I don't have a grinder at home. Will it be possible to get the beans grounded before being shipped out?

  • I received my order at lunch time today
    Thanks again James

    • +2

      awesomeness is awesome ;-)

  • Cool beans…

  • Decaf, decaf available by chance to child bearing/feeding women who love their fresh strong coffee but can't have the 'caf'..? Usually hit up my local merlo roaster who roast daily, but would yrs be as fresh (adding a day or two for delivery of course)..sorry to sound snobbish & not sure you even have decaf available..but had too many bad decaf coffees made from old ancient beans..thanks in advance..

    • If you can reply to this thread with the description of my decaf, translated into your own words, I will send you a bag of my delicious decaf for the deal price!

  • Hi James,

Do you sell any fairtrade / ethically sourced beans?
Sorry I couldn't seem to find any info regarding this…
    Cheers

  • And bought :) Will try out this robusta blend. Hope it's good in a Rocky/Silvia combo.
    Cheers,
    Wade

    • rocky AND silvia? You are spoiled ;-)

  • Ordered Monday arvo, delivered first thing this morning. Very impressive!

First time ordering BayBeans, so was quite excited to give it a whirl. Grinded (ground?) the beans with my Sunbeam EM0480 and made a latte with it. Really impressed - got a nice crema from it, and it had a nice fruity taste in the back of the palate.

Amazing value for the price. While it's not quite Coffee Alchemy standard (their Paracelsus Punch is the best coffee bean I have had on a home machine), I reckon it is definitely as good as Campos, if not better (and less than half the price).

Great deal. Will be ordering again.

    • Awesome review. Thanks!

  • Did I just see that this blend has robusta beans in it?

No single origin beans at all?

    • That's funny!

    • facepalm

  • Received my beans on thurs after ordering late Tues night. Cracked them open this morning and VERY impressed by the result. Had to grind a little finer than my standard bean (Schibello) but once grinder tuned in twas all good. Good work James, you've a new customer here. Cheers Dave

    • Thanks Dave!

  • hi james,

any chance of buying 2x500g instead of 1x1kg?

manna beans are charging $1 for each extra bag as per http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93639#comment-1249741

    thanks!

    • No problems. Just add .75c for each 500 or 250g empty bag with valve that you want.

    • -1

      Hi James,

I have contacted you twice via email as you previously requested here— http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93570?page=1#comment-124981….

On your website it says emails are replied to within 2 hours.

5 days has passed and I still haven't heard from you except that you were on the road and would respond when you are back at your desk?

      Thanks.

  • Do you sell these pre-ground to fit into a re-useable nespresso pods? I heard that 3.8 grind is good. I have been using these pods and they are great but I don't have a grinder.

    • No problems - I have an awesome nespresso grind. I will reply by email
      Edit: copy of reply below.

  • Thnanks for the email

Yes, I have just finished an experiment with reusable pods. I have a grind that works well. You can order any variety and just email back after checkout so I can be sure to grind your coffee to nespresso grind.

  • Hey Rep,

I'm always on the lookout for suppliers who have high altitude wet processed coffee, are any of the Premium Reserve wet processed?

Like, maybe Costa Rica or Guatemala?

    Cheers.

    • January was a wet proc from Guatemala. If you sigh up on the home page, you will get first dibs and a full description each time the premium reserve variety changes.

      • +1

        Cool, thanks, just signed up.

Bean quality on par with cost. Lacks anything noteworthy. Will keep for visiting crocodile tongues.

    • +2

What a croc of ship, they're awesome

    • +1

Seriously? I love what I have tried from Bay Beans so far. Could you share what roaster you do like, must be some magicals beans.

      • Tried probably all commercial roasters in brisbane and a lot beyond, plus a few hobbyist s. It's definitely not a bad blend. Just lends itself more to milked beverages. A long way off the worst and at the price to my doorstep i may order more.

        • You'll probably most enjoy the Super Crema or Espresso in that case.

  • +1

Super service, replying to emails at 6:15pm Perth time.

    Have just ordered:

    1x 1kg Premium Reserve
2x 250g Bondi Chai Vanilla Honey
2x 250g bondi Chai Club Cinnamon
    =)

    • I like to prepare the Bondi Chai by adding a spoon or two to a milk pitcher, disolve with a little bit of hot water, then add cold milk and steam with the espresso wand - it comes out very creamy and delicious.

You can also do it in the microwave if you dont have access to a espresso machine (or at work). just start by disolving the chai in a little bit of water, then add milk and microwave till warmed.

  • Ordered beans at lunchtime. Just got home (5:30pm) and they're sitting on the doorstep! Outstanding service!
(OK it helps that I'm about 12km away from them).
But the proof is in the tasting which I'll do tomorrow morning….

    • Thanks! let us know how you enjoy your beans for your morning coffee.

  • Which one of the following would you recommend as a good grinder?
    Sunbeam EM0440
    Breville BCG450

I know the Hario MSS-1 is a good manual one, however does it take awhile to grind up the coffee for lets say 5 cups?

    • 5 cups? forget the Hario hand grinder. It will do it, but you wont want to.
The Sunbeam EM0440 (or EM0480) is better than the Breville.

      • Just wondering, is the Sunbeam EM0440 or 0480 REALLY that messy? I notice the 0440 doesn't include a container, If I stick a cylindrical container under there will it minimize the mess?

Thanks for the QUICK reply…. haha do you monitor this thread like a hawk?

        • Yes, it can be messy ;-)
Take a look at this vid I made, with my EM0480 and Rancillio. Note the 'mess guard' - its still doing its job after 2 1/2 years. Total investment = 5c. Its a party cup trimmed down.
          http://www.baybeans.com.au/faq.html#espresso

        • Thanks for the reply.
Also along side my coffee machine, I have a capsule machine for the quick and nasty coffee. I usually use a reusable capsule, will your beans be ok with it?

Should i be using a medium grind e.g. for a filter sort of thing?

        • you want a grind finer than espresso for nespresso. They run at 15 bar (vs 9 for espresso).

        • Ah ok, I will test out which grind is best for nespresso.

Stupid question: What is the typical shelf life on the beans? e.g. after roasting.

          Thanks.
