10 Page 21L Cross Cut Shredder $16 Woolworths

480

I was shopping around for a cross cut shredder and marked at $40 this Woolworths one seemed to be the best value.

I was extra pleased when it scanned at only $16!

It is a cross cut shredder not a stip cut, which is better for security and makes the shredded paper more compact.

It isn't silent but it isn't too noisy either. I've had cross cut shredders which are deafening however this one is very tolerable.

States it can handle 10 pages at a time, 21L basket, shreds CD's also.

Purchased from Woolworths Upper Mount Gravatt (Garden City shopping centre). Not sure if it's only at this location or everywhere

  • Hi - can you pls give a model and make ?

    • +4

It doesn't have a model number on the box, just "Woolworths Essentials Paper Shredder with Mesh Bin"

The shredder itself has a model number on it: VS1008CT
      Item number: 725915

      Hope that helps!

It's a woolworths essentials which is their own brand. They had them at my woolies warilla for $20 on Thursday. Mine were down the front of the store not in the stationery section so if you can't find them at your store my be worth looking if they have a back to school section.

  • How far between are the crosscuts? ie how long are the strips that it produces? 5mm confetti or 20mm?

    • +3

What are you doing that requires such fine shredding?

      • I have a strip cutting shredder from years ago but if I'm going to invest $16 big ones I want to know it will protect my identity sufficiently.

      • Lol… I have a strip shredder and their main problem is the strips end up lumping together like spaghetti so it takes up a lot of bin space (which means more frequent trips to the recycle bin)… And if u try to compress it by hand (or feet), you get paper dust blowing out all over the room…so I've been looking for an upgrade to a cross shredder, hopefully my local scans at $16 :)

Bloody hell if a cross cutter isn't secure enough for you, you might as well burn the paper as well.

      • or eat it…

        • +4

Heh, you joke, but I put the shreddings in my worm farm. They love eating it. Secure and environmentally friendly!

Yep Agants are so careless ;)

    • Checked. 5mm x 30mm

  • Just brought one for $24, down from $40. Anyone have a $16 recept?

It's a bit like this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93915 . Prices are not uniform between stores.

      • This. The price has most likely been marked down manually by the store in question, in order to clear excess allocated stock.

I just scanned it for $40 at Woolworths Wentworthville… no deal..

  • Marc, how many left at Garden City?

        LOL

  • OK, I need technical assistance. There is another mini bin, which seems to be for the CD/Card slot. There is also a piece of metal loose in the bin when packed, which I assume (yes, yes, I know what Benny Hill said assume meant) somehow connects that mini bin to the cutting unit. How? The manual is about as useful as teats on a bull.

There are 2 tracks at the bottom of the little plastic bin. Slide in the little rack inside the bin. When you turn on the shredder you put the disc into the cd/card slot then all 4 disc slices will end up in the little plastic bin. Hope that help. :)

      • Thanks for trying, but I think I need a photo or diagram, being the visual person I am. Any chance you could email an image to [email protected]?

Is that piece of metal detached from the bin? The piece of metal supposed to be soldered to the bin already, when you open from the box. If not, you may need to glue/solder the to its original position.

        • Yes it is. I can now make sense of the criss-cross pattern on the loose piece of metal - it's the pattern from the mesh. Thanks so much!

  • I bought the last 2 in Calamvale x Parkinson: They were on the stocking trolley w/ other clearance goods. Reduce stickers stated $20 but I was charged at $16 each via self-serve cashiers. Solid build it makes little thin short strips.

  • wow did creedit card :)

  • What's the quality of these like?
I know the cheap ones can often be junk. e.g. the model I have (Safeguard S-100) jams up a lot, meaning that I have to unscrew open the actual unit, remove the jammed paper, and then screw it all back up. Also, it turn its motor off before it has completely ejected the shredded paper .. meaning that if I accidentally put it in reverse mode the next time I used it, it spews the paper back out. Annoying.

Does this have an Undo button?

  • Scans at $40 in Joondalup WA

  • I have just done almost 1,000 sheets in total. This thingy will get warm gradually during shredding, then get overheat and on strike like dead after approx 4 bins. Once it is cooled down it will work like normal again.

The quality seems pretty good to me. If it can last for any 3 months of household usage (my stress test was performed only because I stacked too many confidential documents), I will be laughing.

How's the noise factor?? I have a Rexton that bloody sounds like a chainsaw.

      • Haven't tried others ever. This one sounds like a foot/calf massager.

        • Yep, good call. Sounds almost exactly like our Homedics massaging cushion in shiatsu mode.

  • My woolworths are not doing it for $16 can anyone post a copy of the receipt and I might try and haggle, thanks

  • can this consider a similar deal?
