ASUS Notebook S505CM - 15.6" - Core i5 3317U - 4GB RAM - 500GB HDD $698

20

Have been looking for a notebook for around $600. Finally found this portable notebook with reasonable specs and a good price tag. Even it is bit more than my budget but I think it is worth the extra money.

      funny HP and Asus…Real Cute…

  • I got the ASUS K55A, 750G HHD, 4G RAM, i7 at MSY for pretty much the same price a few weeks ago

  • at MSY the HP M6 1010TX for 649 looks better for the money to me. Thanks for posting, I am looking for a laptop around that price, too.

    • I'm sure the HP is hotter than the ASUS ;-)

  • I am deciding between this or HP M6 1010TX and am planning to buy today. I need someone to make this executive decision.

    • Asus is more reliable and better build quality imo and has that 24GB SSD(might be a hybrid drive)

HP has more powerful cpu and gpu and a usb 3.0 port.

Haven't looked at the dimensions but I'd guess the HP is bit thicker, heavier and lower battery life.

      • My personal experience has been about equal for HP and ASUS real laptops. Its been years since my last HP, but I had 2 and I used each about 2 years before I wanted to get something faster. One HP had a backlight die and I bought an extended warranty just after that… the HP rep advised I could buy it and wait 30 days to get the repair done under warranty. I did, and HP's service (in USA) was great, so I extended the warranty another year. Finally sold it on Ebay after buying a Gateway (a poor choice that overheated regularly.) Kept the gateway for a year, then bought an ASUS X83VM refurb. I still use it (since 2009) and it has been pretty good, except for occaional overheating that causes the USB ports and wireless to malfunction until it cools. I also had a ASUS eeepc 901 and I had to repair it 3 times under warranty in a year. Repeated touchpad problems. So both ASUS and HP have had imperfect build quality in my experience.
That said, I would rather buy an ASUS or a Dell, but for the right price and features I consider an HP, too.

At last, I picked the HP and am using it now. and I have to say it is really stupid to have Win8 with no touch screen.

    • The ad for the 1010TX on MSY says its Win7. Is that the one you bought?
(Win8 seems a bad choice for my use. Still using XP here… downgraded this ASUS laptop when I bought it —from Vista.)
