  • Sorry, I got 726 from expedia.com.au

    should I use .ie to get the good price?

    I tried 8Jun-16Jun 2013, from qantas displayed $698 while expedia.com.au is $726

    I tried expedia.ie shows euro 400. But Im not sure about the currency converter.

    • Just type in Google

      400 euro to aud

      and you get

      400 Euro equals
      511.63 Australian Dollar

      • It is Google currency converter, my point is if I pay with my CC which has worse rate and also international transaction…

        but it will still be lower than 698. thanks!

          you can save using the 28 degrees mastercard or the citibank plus account see this thread for more info

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75516 and search the travel/financial ozbargain forums for more details and tips

        • I just tried using my 28 degrees card and the site doesnt like it.

          It did accept another mastercard.

          The language thing is a little bit tricky but I manage to save $500
          between the 4 of us.

          Hopefully, it will all go smoothly regd the ticketing.

        • OK… I got a call from 28degrees this morning seems cos I was doing this at midnight, 28degrees rejected the transactions.

          If I'd done this during business hours, it'd be ok.

    WOW I have never heard of Expedia.ie

    I had heard of Expedia.com.au and Expedia.com

    Anyway I see what you mean…..

    Great trip to Bangkok
    Depart Sydney 22/4/13
    Depart Bangkok 3/5/13
    Both direct flights! 550 EURO = ~$705 AUD

    = MORE SPENDING MONEY FOR PATTAYA!!!

    • We get Expedia.ie deals from time to time. This one was a big thing last year http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70589

    • ewww why pattaya? it's full of sexpats and prostitution there, the place has gone filthy these days, head to krabi or something nicer. Unless pattaya is your style.

    A word of warning to any Qantas Club Members or Qantas Frequent Flyers;

    The new Qantas arrangements for all destinations (except Americas) could lead to some expensive flights if you aren't aware of the changes.

    For example if you were Platinum Status and were to arrive at the airport with 96kg (previous allowance) for an economy flight to/from Singapore, you would be charged $1380 because (under the new system) you would be 46kg overweight !!!
    Double that price for Europe and you are looking at $2760 in excess fees !!!

    From 26 February 2013 for travel on or after 31 March 2013+ the weight limits have gone DOWN in some cases SIGNIFICANTLY;

    Qantas Club members and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyers
    2 pieces (maximum 23kg (50lb) per piece) in Economy —-> 46kg DOWN to 42kg
    3 pieces (maximum 23kg (50lb) per piece) in Premium Economy —-> 69kg DOWN to 52kg
    3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Business/First —-> 96kg DOWN to 62kg

    Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers
    2 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Economy —-> 64kg DOWN to 46kg
    3 pieces (maximum 23kg (50lb) per piece) in Premium Economy —-> 69kg DOWN to 56kg
    3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Business/First —-> 96kg DOWN to 66kg

    Platinum/Platinum One Qantas Frequent Flyers
    3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Economy —-> 96kg DOWN to 50kg
    3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Premium Economy —-> 96kg DOWN to 60kg
    4 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) in Business —-> 128kg DOWN to 60kg
    4 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece) First —-> 128kg DOWN to 70kg

    I hope this helps some people avoid some massive excess fees…

    My recommendation is to call them on (02) 9691-3399 and let them know if you are unhappy about this. I was told that the more people that complain, the more likely they will do something…

    You can also contact them using the web;
    http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/customer-care/globa…

    Using this form;
    http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/customer-care-feedb…

    • +3

      also there is no long a piece limit

      • +1

        Yep, that may help some people, but at the higher end the approximate halving of the weight limits (or more than half in one case) does nothing to offset that change IMO…

        • Increasing piece limits leads to some savings as a vast majority of travellers won't be travelling on Platinum frequent flyer status.

          And if you hit platinum, you can probably afford to pay for extra luggage or at lease expense it as odds are you'll be travelling on Business or First class. No?

          The piece count increase means you save $90 on international flights because that's how much it costs to check in a second piece of luggage.

        • -1

          Regular economy travellers are able to hit platinum too ;-)

          So they are removing a potential fee of $90 and introducing a potential fee of $1380?
          That sounds fair :p

    • +1

      Well with the recent Ice raid, I suppose you need to smuggle some more in…cmon qantas, 50kg just isn't enough!

    • and, for the most of us, baggage INCREASES from 1 piece of 23kg, to 30kg in more than one piece.. :)

      • Yes, it's kind of weird that they are decreasing for the regulars and increasing for the those that don't fly often…

        But I didn't think there was much need to warn people that things are getting better for them ;-)

    Any reason why the Expedia Irish domain is significantly cheaper?

    • I would like to know also as this is not the first time expedia.ie has been cheaper!

      • +1

        Because as Aussie's we must be charged more…it's almost law now right?

  • wow checked a Perth-Sing return flight and it was a difference of $132!

  • I'm getting €1100 + on SYD-HKG flights??

    Edit: I guess the expedia.ie site only shows the SYD-SIN sale fares?

    • same here (bne - hk) wish it was applying to HK :-(

  • Wow- I get a price difference of $186 on the flights my daughter and I are looking for - even factoring in the 3% (which may even be less) conversion charge on my card, we are still much better off. I just rang expedia.com.au and asked why the difference - they were not very helpful and recommended that we only use the Australian site.
    Has anyone ever used this expedia.ie site before? Are they ok? Any problems?
    The expedia guy I spoke to said there would be no problems but he just could not recommend the other site.

    • I used it to book tickets to Thailand. Tickets issued, flights taken, no issues.

    • +5

      Now why would you go and do something crazy like that. Do you want to get it Ozbargained. We have had so many good deals here with out any hitch from the ie domain. They will probably setup an ip address checker and disable accepting credit cards from Australia or something. If you had any concerns you should have come to the community first.

  • For Syd-Sin 16/4 -> 26/4 return got me €480 which equates to around $630
    Which dates can net a $504 price?

    EDIT: Oh i see now. The flights between SYD and SIN are not direct (my problem). After unticking the direct flight box i got €400 which equates to around $530~. But one stop in Melbourne…

  • Now im torn between two decisions:

    option a) Earlier arrival (3:55pm) at Singapore but flight is on Qantas
    option b) Later arrival (11:50pm) but flight to Singapore is operated by Emirates which from what I have heard is more comfortable that Qantas on many levels.

    Edit: Thanks madge, looks like the Emirates flight would be worse off due 10 in a row compared to Qantas' 9 in a row.

    option a) it is then!

  • +1

    The Emirates flight MEL-SIN is operated by a 777-300ER, which in Emirates' economy class is 10-abreast. Many other airlines are only 9-abreast in the same plane so your seat will be as narrow as on a 737.
    Choose the Qantas operated flight.

    • -2

      sorry to put you down on this but there's an "Expedia Taxa de reserva" which is not found on the expedia.ie version.

      It looks like the booking fee is already included in the irish prices but not the brazilian one. After conversion there is a difference of around $10~20. The following cases are for my arrangements but if on single then the difference would amount to a few dollars.

      expedia.ie

      expedia.com.br
      https://www.expedia.com.br/Details?action=UnifiedDetailsWidg…

      Note on the right hand side bar that summarises the transaction there is an extra section with the taxa de reserva.

        My total BR$ amount includes the Expedia booking fee. Its obviously not working out cheaper on a double ticket but seems cheaper on a single:

        Adult R $ 701.02 (Flight R$430.72 + Taxes and Fees Airline R$ 270.30)
        Expedia Booking Fee R $ 118.00
        Total R$819

          I booked ADL to SIN return for $400 per person over the easter break via the expedia brazil site! Bargain!

        • Amazing. Do you speak Portugese or any chance to switch it to English ?

        • Use Google Chrome browser with automatic page translation

        • Thanks. I've just looked at it and I can see that it offers flight QF81 from Adelaide to Singapore.
          I had QF81 sydney to Adelaide (not flying further to Singapore) booked for August this year a few weeks ago. They cancelled it a few days ago, so I had reschedule it to 11:05 domestic flight.
          What I am trying to say is that if Qantas cancelled QF81 in August, what's the guarantee that it won't cancel it in March/April ?

        • I stand corrected ;D it somehow didnt work out well when i tried it.
          and is it just me or do i have to go via MLB to get the cheapest fare? [as in SYD-MLB-SIN]

        • Try 26/03/2013 to 2/04/2013 you should see direct flights.
          Pricewise it should be almost the same.

          but again I repeat my question : does anyone know if QF81 QF82 flights will operate in March/April ? If so, how does it align with my cancellation for August ?
          Probably the best way to clarify on this is to call Qantas.

        • Its only 1 month away… i would say its pretty likely the QF81/82 flights will be operating, and if not they will have to re-route you at their expense

        • No one will know for sure if those flights will operate in the future. What was the reason for the original cancelation, it could just be a once off.

        • I did not ask them for a reason as for me it was just a minor amendment of my itinerary and I did not have any intention to get into a useless and lengthy discussion.

        • It will. QF81/82 will transit via Adelaide until 14 April, after which it will be direct SYD-SIN (not via Adelaide) - hence the cancellation of SYD-ADL part of it, I think.

          http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/media-releases/feb-…

    • Just booked BNE-SIN departing 19/03 and returning 12/04 for 818.60 BRL (404.323 AUD). Now off to Delhi for the 4th test haha!

      A big cheers for the tip mate!

    • Anyone having trouble paying on this site? It seems to fail…

      • I am having trouble to book the flight too!!!
        The website wont accept my credit card….
        Can anyone help please??

        • You need to call the bank to clear your credit card for international transactions. Tell them you are making a booking through this website.

  • A case where taxes and fees are higher than the fare:

    Flight€186.00
    Taxes & Airline Fees €235.23

  • I'd say it's just a glitch, they're not levying fuel surcharges on the fare. Chances are it'll be gone in a few days :(

  • Melbourne > Singapore for $231. Lovely!

  • For me the best thing about this Qantas sale was the ability to buy one way tickets at a reasonable price on QF. Perhaps they are going to get competitive.

    We needed two one way tickets to Manilla in September to link up with a previous Ozbargin flight deal. Cheap direct one way flights are a problem as QF and Philippine Airlines do not encourage one way tickets. So we had to purchase two economy QF tickets on QF Frequent flyer points (2 x 30,000 points & $512.00 "fees" total), which is not a great use of points.

    So by booking through Expedia.ie last night we purchased 2 x SYD-MNL QF economy tickets for $420 each.

    I checked the new tickets were confirmed in the QF system (they immediatly were), and cancelled the Frequent Flyer tickets.
    So for $330ish ($840 new ticket cost less $512 QF FF "fees" to be returned) we got 50,000 QF FF points returned to our account immediatly, and because we had an 'old' booking we now get our luggage allowance upped to 30kg and multiple bags, instead of one bag at 23kg each.

    There is a 2x 5000 QF FF points charge for cancelling the FF tickets, but the new tickets will earn more than that anyway.

    We would have saved a bit more by booking through the expedia.br site, but we did the business before Holysmoke posted the tip.

    Thanks OP!

    Double +ve here !
    expedia.com.br came up tops, $100 cheaper than expedia.ie
    zuji,webjet,skyscanner,kayak are all rubbish but am curious to know other's opinion.
    By the way, has anyone price beat with Flight Center ? At these prices, FC will go bust sooner or later.

  • How come expedia prices are coming up more expensive than Qantas website? I want to goto HK late april to early may?

    • seems too good to be true… maybe they are not up to date with prices,

      webjet, flightcenter had qantas flights to BKK for 900-930 yesterday, now 1100 +/-

      do they have a price guarantee like webjet? or will they ask for the difference?

      will they refund if they cannot give you the advertised price?

      *** edit: might have my answer.. ***

      We understand that sometimes plans change. We do not charge a cancel or change fee. When the airline charges such fees in accordance with its own policies, the cost will be passed on to you.

      Fares are not guaranteed until ticketed.

      • when did you book? expedia.br has had QF flights for under $900 with the current sale

        • I booked yesterday afternoon, and appears it has gone through,

          got a booking code and can use it log into the Qantas website to view booking, saying it is 'confirmed'.

          So hopefully works out, payment is still pending on my CC.

  • We want to buy flight tickets fr sydney to singapore but having trouble to pay with our credit card.
    We tried twice but they took 96cents each time from our credit card whilst the website saying the credit card detail is incorrect.

    Anybody having similar problem?

    • Yea, tried x3 times, on x2 diff cards (@work using chrome)
      same message.

      got home and while on with the bank (thinking it maybe being blocked)
      lady suggested to log out, or close browser and re-open again, and try again

      yea right i thought

      and it worked.. (@home using chrome)

      the 99c got credited back, they just do that to make sure the card is valid.

      worked out in the end.
