Why are these still so expensive?
They should chuck a blu-ray player (or a network connection) in to make a device like this more worthwhile.

    • Doesnt it have a Network connection so it can play movie files?

    • Hard drive prices, Codec licencing, Software development that has to account for sudden about-turns by broadcasters and/or broadcasters who ignore "standards"… PVRs are a bit overpriced true, but the manufacturers of them have a lot of hoops to jump through. Once Australia changes to Mpeg4 we should see prices drop, as we'll be able to use overseas models. If we could loosen the Freeview grip on the Mheg5 EPG we'd see even greater price drops.

  • This record 4 Chans at ones or just 2?

    4 chans meaning 9 & GO with 7 and 7mate

Very basic Twin Tuner Unit - a VCR replacement.
Lacks all the nice features of a Toppie - no TAPS, network, 4 channel record, series record, etc.
Was $136 in November at DS, and GG for $133 in December. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1961669

Up to 1Tb External HDD can be added via USB (slow for copying).
    Variable Skip Functions
Last Firmware update: Feb 26 2013 (3 in last 3 months - well supported or a lot of issues?)

    • Does it have video in (rca)?

      • LOL!

        • whats so funny? Most PVR's under $300 dont have video in but they have video out.

        • If you know most PVRs twice this price don't have analogue AV in (involving costly A-D conversion almost exclusively found in full-featured top end units) & I had described this unit as a very basic PVR & posted link to specs in post you replied to (so you could look up the answer) - seems like a waste of time & big LOL to me.

  • any recommendations for the next step up from this? ~$300
