Sony Xperia Z 16GB - $600 (in Store Only @ JB Hi-Fi)

470

Thought i'd post this one up for you guys

Went into my local JB Hifi (Bundall - Gold Coast) to buy the xperia Z, I mentioned to the nice lady in the phones dept that some of the whirlpool forum users had managed to snag one for $610 and whether she could do a deal for me too.

After looking at her computer she came up with a price of $600!

But anyway, should easy enough for you guys to print off a copy of the receipt to get the same deal at your local JB too.

Its a telstra branded handset with no external markings but does have some preloaded Telstra garbage on there. The phone comes unlocked too.
Very impressed with the phone by the way. Screen quality is excellent.

It's not as easy as printing out the receipt and get the deal mate. It's all depend of the store, if they need to make the sale to keep sale up they will, if they don't have to, they ll make up whatever excuse not to.

  • +1

Ya lately…I have seen Jb's n' OWs' rejecting this sort of receipts…~~!

    • +2

Yeah, I've experienced that myself, but just gives you a little more ammo knowing that it can be done.

      • Just a note its "Xperia Z" not "Experia"

        • +1

          Oops, edited, thankyou.

        • +1

They will only price match this if you have the original receipt sadly.

OW doesn't do it any more, since they just use the excuse of "it could be photoshopped"
Pricematching it to online, is usually quick and simple though, they don't deny any of those ones.

        • +7

You would think they would be able to pull up the transaction on their computer from the receipt number in this day and age surely?..

        • +1

I'm sure they could but it's obviously not in their best interests to do it.

Can see it now: store droid approaches IT and asks if they can have xhanges made to the system to provide easy access to find the best price Item X has ever sold for so they can inform the customer of that information….
Store Droid is standing in unemployment line next day….

          :-)

        • damn here i was thinking your talking about a mechanical droid and was going to ask which JB you shop at.. :P

        • They weren't the droids you were looking for?

      • Every bit of ammo helps. Thanks for the post GDM. BTW, in this day and age surely most phones should be water and shock resistant. It probably stops ppl buying more replacement phones so they don't make them to last.

        • +1

Water and shock proof means a bulkier and less user accessible case, which may mean no removable battery etc. Some people demand those sort of features, so not all manufacturers do so.

        • +4

Those features certainly haven't made it any bulkier. It's a credit to the engineers at Sony that have put together a phone that looks and feels better quality than any other smartphone out there.

        • Water proofing a phone does not = bulkier. Look up 'Liquipel' for an example on waterproofing phones.

        • +1

Sony engineers have done an excellent job with the XZ, the water feature certainly didn't add bulk, in fact the Xperia Z is the world's second thinnest phone at only 7.9mm

    • Receipt is useless for JB and OW.

      • It may well be that a little bit of ass-lickery may hold more sway than demanding a pricematch from a receipt print-out ;)

and you need to give your life story just to buy an OUTRIGHT phone…..

    • Some cheap words and 2 mintutes of your life, for a $10 saving.

  • The phone looks nice, quality built, expensive, BUT it has horrible screen, washed out colors, like lcd/slcd, the moment you look from the sides or up/down,its all white, like htc phone screens, and the loud speaker is shocking, hard to hear the phone on max in the bag, pocket etc.

    • I was using a Galaxy Note before and I reckon the picture quality is a little better. More clarity, greater detail etc.

    • I have the HTC butterfly and my speaker is ridiculously loud. I do agree with that the older HTC phones traditionally sucked at battery and speakers. But for the butterfly it's just the battery. LoL.

    • +2

How often are you looking at the screen from those angles?

      • +4

When you are looking at someone else holding a super duper awesome phone and think yours is a piece of crap.

    • +1

This is just a arguement between whether SLCD, LCD or AMOLED screens are better. Silly. Its just preference. Colours in LCDs should be noted to be more 'natural'.

      • +3

I can confirm that the screen is not that great. Even for a SLCD. My old HTC Desire had a better screen.

I would still get this phone though :)

    • +1

Not sure what you're talking about HTC screens for… the One X/XL's screen is incredible. Can view it at any angle and it looks exactly the same as it does front on. Compare side by side to a GS3 and it's night and day, colours on the HTC are much more vibrant and accurate (one plus here is that whites are actually white, not blue).

and christ I'd love to be able to comment on something completely irrelevant without a rep tag. I'm not a rep, just an employee expressing my own opinions.

i played this phone a bit in store, i have to agree, the screen is NOT so great, washed out when the phone is tilted a bit, quite annoying. what's more annoying is the speaker. it is absolutely terrible, lacks of definition and clarity. can't believe this is from a company with expertise in visual and audio products. in the end i bought Samsung galaxy note 2.

    • +1

Viewing angle is good for privacy. This phone kick ass outdoors in direct sunlight.

    • -1

here's a vid about the screen and speaker, terrible, really terrible, theres better for your money, why not get the best you can?

      http://youtu.be/GlhXpHULwys?t=3m54s

      • That was with pre-production models. This is the best 1080p screen I've ever seen. Take off the pre-applied screen filter and you'll get much better viewing angles if that's what you want.

    • If Steve Jobs were the head of Sony and had to tell the world about the viewing angles like he did with Antennagate issues then he'd say the following:

"If it happens to you then you are using it incorrectly, the viewing angles are perfectly fine, since it is a phone, the screen going white is a security feature so the person next to you on the train cannot read what you are typing or looking at on your phone"

      • exactly, i dont want the guy next to me to see that what HD video i am watching!

Damn these prices are low already. I was hoping to sell mine but afraid I'll not get anything for it!

    Reply fail

Looks like a good price, so a good deal if anyone can get a similar price.

I was burned when Sony decided to update some phones to Android 4.1 but not others (with similar hardware to some getting updates).

Beware of Sony's limited support. When the phone is last year's series, Sony is unlikely to support android updates!
You may get Android 5 / Key Lime Pie support this year, but not when Sony has moved on to their 2014 models!

This is why I jumped from Sony Xperia series to Nexus phones. Aside from the poor support for older phones, I love most aspects of Sony Xperia screens, software and overall design.

    Good luck, prospective Sony buyers!

Anyone who's prepared to spend $600 on a phone that will depreciate sharply in a few months, shouldn't be on OZBARGAIN. Just saying…

  • Sorry may not be relevant. How does this par to note 2? Someone asked me for a swap. Read reviews online n they re pretty equal. Any 1st hand exp? Thabks.

  • I hope this is nothing like the Xperia x10i - laggy as all hell!

    • the Z has 2Gb ram like all the other high end phones in 2013, not like the x10 with less ram than any other competitors during that time.

I am more worry about sony's software… they usually comes with so many junkware~

    • The X10i is 3-4 years old. The XZ has a very powerful Quadcore Snapdragon S4 pro processor which can do everything you throw at it and more.

  • Awesome phone! At $600 I might try get a second one for my missus.

  • +1

I'm tempted, but I have a feeling the price might drop?

  • +1

The Xperia V was released with $729 RRP in November (higher than the T and TX).
I bought it for $430 in January!
The price could have dropped because the XZ had just been announced.
If Sony announces a newer phone in the next couple of months, the price of the XZ will drop significantly too… me thinks.

    • They usually do. They might add an 'S' variant later.

    Alright lads

Just got this deal about 1 hour ago in the Elizabeth Store in Melbourne. $600

    • Cool, did anyone else managed to get it at this price? Did you have to nag them?

  • Anyone know if this will work on lte in the states?
