  • What's the USB port for? Reckon I could plug my USB hard drive into it and play videos directly off it?

    • Most like;y for photo's

    • I've read elsewhere that this DVD player will read divx files straight off a usb flash drive and hard drive. But it seams that there is a problem with drives that are formatted NTFS, looks like it needs to be fat32 for it to work. Another thing is that it is region locked to zone 4 but can be unlocked with the appropriate code. Cheers M.

      • I cannot find any information about the region code on Aldi's ad.

  • anyone know if this can play divx/xvid…?

    • It should be able to play the video encoded with the DivX codec (MPEG 4 stream, avi etc), but may not support all "DivX Media Format" features.
Ask them if it has profile support to version 3.11. I suspect not…
      Cheers,

  • MPEG4 generally means divx / xvid compatability. You can get a named brand one like Sony etc for less than $100 these days but Im still interested in getting one of these.

  • Actually, I would recommend this over Sony, because if you are going for a lower cost lower end product, there is not much difference in terms of upscaling, features etc.
The SONY one that pw2002au is talking about may have a hdmi output, but no usb ( you can watch movies or photographs using the USB port, so it can be useful for those who have ripped their DVD using the DIVX codec for backup purposes- I am not an expert on the legal implications of ripping your own DVD ;-)). Pw2002au, can you please post a link of the player you are talking about?
    Cheers,
    Varun

    • Varunpant, you're right, both Sony / LG and Panasonic all offer low end HDMI players with upscaling and all can be bought from JB / Bing Lee etc for around the same amount with some haggling.

  • All previous Aldi/Tevion DVD players with USB inputs have DIVX/XVID and a whole heap of other codec playability. I think this would be the same.

  • Anyone know if the player is region free?

  • Anyone know what sound outputs to expect?

  • I hope it's not region locked…

Does it come with a HDMI cable?

  • I bought one of these last week. For $60 its a good dvd player. Plays divx (well the divx files I have - noty sure about all the different divx and xvid standards etc), plays everything off usb (FAT not NTFS formatted), if you have subtitle files, can switch them on.

    Doesn't come with HDMI.

    • It comes with a HDMI output but not with a HDMI lead. Good player so far.
