    What is with the levels?
    I felt as if I was in a lift…

    • +2

      levels of "savings"

    • +11

Maybe that will be the ozbargain membership badge level as well :)

  • +3

good luck PM-ing at OW with that $398 tag from a "dodgy store" (OW words, not mine)

    • +3

Bought an Asus Zenbook from flingshot about a month back. Best service from an online store I've had in a while. There was a small delay (one day) in shipping, but all communication was answered very quickly and they compensated me with a free external DVDRW for the trouble. At the time it was already the cheapest place in Australia for that model.

      • i'm also a happy FS customer, but I had OW tell me they aren't a real store last time i tried to PM ;)

        • +2

The funniest part about this is that they seem to think we are pretty real when we come in each week and spend a few hundred dollars there!

      • +7

I don't think he was saying he thought we were dodgy just that OW will claim that they don't need to honour their own PM policy.

But thanks for the feedback and support!

      • +3

Now I want to have "small delay". :)

  • Price match at Officeworks + pay with ING Paywave in $99,$99,$68.95 chunks, go overseas (claim GST from TRS)

That's awesome. That's the OzBargainer way of buying something!

    • +1

Scotty, can you award me with an Ozb membership badge? ;-)

      • +4

Maybe we will design something for the "card carrying" members, so when you visit OW the staffs will ask "what do you want to price match today?" and offer splitting payments into $100 chunks.

        • +1

Maximum $99.99 chunks! No ING Paywave rebate for amounts $100 or more.

    • I think everyone missed that you can do tax deduction on top for business use!

      Final price = loose change!

      • Or if not for business, claim tax deduction on personal income

        provided that
        1. you claim that you use it 100% for your work
        2. you can prove ATO that you need this laptop for your work
        3. your income is > $6000

  • Lame processor. Get a tab instead

  • "pay with ING Paywave in $99,$99,$68.95 chunks"

Will they let you do that?

    • +25

This happened to me today in OW

Me: I would like to pay in $99 chunks.
      OW: Why?
Me: I will be happier that way
      OW: Oh.. OK..

      (OW proceed with $99 chunks)

OW: Sorry, my system wouldn't let me enter the 3rd $99
Me: The last chunk is $68.95, not $99
      OW: Oh.. OK..

      • +37

spare a thought for the uni/tafe student who won't be able to sleep tonight because they can't work out why a customer wanted to pay in $99 chunks

        • +1

Haha I did this yesterday when buying my nexus 7. I just said I was 'superstitious'. At first I didn't say anything, but the checkout person's face needed an explanation…

        • +1

lol .. Make that +30 votes for you and a new badge :)

Imagine their plight if two or more ozbargainers turned up at the same store paying in chunks of $99…..

  • +1

FlingShot has a very good reputation at OZB, but I don't think office works will PM with FS website.

    • plus+ if PM is sucessful

    • +2

It really depends on the store, staff member, manager, your attitude and their mood on the day. I've had plenty of OW price matches for OS Amazon items, but it's always a hassle. In this case, as a non ING paywave person, I'd rather pay the extra 5% and support the small business that had the truely cheapest market price. Especially considering their customer service to date.

  • +13

I am at level 5,not gonna buy it:)

    • +8

Agree! Highest level of savings mastery is to abstain from the bargain! When you can reach this level of skill you become a grand master.

      • +1

but is a bargain a bargain if it doesnt exist?

  • +1

+1 for dat level 4 savings.

  • +4

    "Level 4: $243.21
Price match at Officeworks + pay with ING Paywave in $99,$99,$68.95 chunks, go overseas (claim GST from TRS)"

Isn't TRS $300 minimum? Regardless if FS or OW it will be below. Good post regardless!

    • buy 2, sell the other on ebay/share with ozb

      • Not a good idea take 2 heavy laptops with you overseas.

    • Isn't TRS $300 minimum

      Oops, level 4 failed…

      Continue/Quit?

      • +1

Buy something else to make up the difference (something you need and at a good price obviously). As long as the total invoice is a minimum of $300 it's ok.

  • +1

Damn this is thought through….I don't need one but +ve for the effort

  • That's actually not bad! Looks like the budget laptops have come a LONG way. Though the B830 CPU is only 1.8Ghz, it's dual-core… so it should run Windows 8 really well. Great for students doing assignments, general web surfing and stuff like that :D

It's actually not all that far off the low-end Core i3 laptop CPU's.

Just chuck in another stick of RAM to bring it to 4Gb and you're set!

    • +1

The B830 will be good for office & web stuff.

I just wish companies would stop falsely claiming these lower end CPU's have an HD-4000 IGP (GPU), the B830's IGP is HD-2000 based.

  • How do you get it less than $298 at flingshot?

Yer i know I am being pedantic but that's what the title says. Perhaps it should say $298 at Flingshit or less at OW.

Edit:: Ooosp thats a typo above!

  • +4

This is actually pretty incredible, the post has 17+ve and no one has bought a single unit.

We have so many posts which get like 6+ve and 50+ sales. It boggles the mind.

I think that the vast majority of people are voting for the sheer creativity of this deal.

    edit: 18…

    • +3

guess they want to PM at OW tomorrow :)

      • guess they want to PM at OW tomorrow :)

Tomorrow will be too late I think.

OW say they price check twice a day.

    • +3

      I PM'ed today and reached level 3…..

      • Price matching success depends who's at the counter.
I tend to pick the young lady at the counter, not "old/experienced" lady.

    • +1

Sometimes +ve votes given just for the effort in the post! (which this is worthy of)

    • +1

IMO flingshot should just create a 5% ozbargain discount code for this to avoid everyone going to OW

      • +3

Unless we don't want to avoid that ;)

        • well played ;)

        • +3

          I'm confused.

      • +1

And then another 5% ING code for Paywavers ;)

      • +1

And then ask OW to price match Flingshot's 5%off coupon, and then use ING Paywave….

      • or they could put the price up as they have just done

    • Hello Rep, Could you confirm whether this machine really comes with an HD4000, as listed on your website?

Notebookcheck says the Intel Celeron B830 only comes with a HD2000.

      • +1

        Fixed thanks.

  • the post has [many]+ve and no one has bought a single unit.

We are OzBargainers. We are buying from OfficeWorks - open to 9pm I think - before tomorrow morning when they lower their price to match yours.

    • It is a bit strange because we have had it at this price for almost a week.

    • +1

      Lessons learnt:
1.a deal can end in the following 2 ways
1a. OW lowers their official price to match 3rd party's low price
1b. the 3rd party decides to declare it "Sold out"

      1. When there is deal, act on it quickly to prevent 1a, 1b from happening

      * even if you have to drive 1000+ km or take a flight to the nearest OW to get it….

  • Hi OP, I dont think you could claim GST from TRS with any item that less than $300 GST inclusive, but purchase the 8GB RAM upgraded version($398) may be a good idea.

  • Can some one explain the ing paywave thing? why is it cheaper when you pay in chunk? why is the last chunk $71 and not $85

    • Silly me~~
      You are right!!
I should calculate with the price before rebate from ING :)

      • ok so you get a rebate from ign? how much is the rebate?

        • I checked my ING account online. Balance has been reduced. But itemised $99 chunks have not been shown.
          Finger crossed.
Before I got the rebate, I am still at level 2…

        • Got my rebate back this morning in online statement, 5% for each chunk!! :)

    • +1
  • +11

Good guy flingshot, posts cheerfully in a thread that specifically challenges you to buy from competitor.

OW might have won our wallets, but FS has won our hearts!

    • it looks like FS comes out the clear winner here judging by the comment :)

      • +1

If you look back through all old threads you will find a discussion around just such an issue. We are patient…

        • patient enough to stop selling this laptop and wait 3 months until OW no longer sell it and then try and sell yours?

I guess you weren't selling any anyway..

      • +1

        Yes, free advertising :)

  • +1

The price says $398 now and it also says Sold Out now

    • +2

Flingshot has the power to prevent people from going to OW to price match ;-)
      (by putting "Sold out" status)

      • +3

Yer funny how the rep was saying I haven't sold 1 unit and then suddenly its sold out.
I feel the words OW was used too much..

        • +2

Who will be happy in this situation?
Something must be done to end a situation like this…

Imagine… Talking with your Mrs about your gf too much….
Especially you mention that gf can do better…

        • AaronPOZ's comments reminded rep that he needs to do something about this situation….

"guess they want to PM at OW tomorrow :)"

  • +2

s**t, I didn't get the bargain but end up reading all messages with smile in my face :D

The first time I read so many posts for a Bargain with NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS below threshold to be displayed!!!

Like the idea with (saving or OZBargain) Levels ;)

  • +2

lol sold out, seem like flingshot doesnt want OW pricematch

  • +1

So the company cut the head off the snake? No deal then.

  • +1 for the "bargain levels"

  • +2

Flingshots now feels like a loser
Thumbs up for the op posting this deal

  • +1

HD2000 makes this a bad deal easily.

  • I have an Acer AO751h and it's getting pretty long in the tooth. I've installed 2Gb of RAM and Win 7. It can't even handle Flash very well, Youtube stutters (in a window, forget fullscreen). It's used for web browsing, emails, and light video viewing. Would this machine be a suitable replacement? Thanks folks, Tony.

    • Not really.

The deal's finished. The size is completely different (14" vs 11.6"). Weight is too (1.25kg vs 2.2kg).

This machine would do those things you want (virtually any current machine would). But it won't be like your old notebook. And the deal's finished.
