Microsoft are going for the PS3's jugular with these prices..
I'd think about buying a second one as a backup for when mine RROD's!!

  • +2

Great work. The in-store pics really help to locate these bargains…

  • +2

wow $199! That's nearly the same price as a PS2!

  • +2

RROD won't happen on these new versions

    • I believe the Arcade units are still the Falcon models, and not the newer Jasper (i.e. still prone to RROD, though not as likely I guess).

      Still though, an absolute bargain!

    • RROD's still happen with the new Xbox models, and still at a huge rate. All Xbox's are pretty much guaranteed to RRoD eventually.

      • three launch consoles and one bought 2 years ago, no red rings unless you don't treat it properly

        • You're one of the lucky ones, but it's not a case of "if" but "when", sadly.

price match ? my local target has no stock …

  • +3

Great find, great price, nice picture. well done mate

  • I rang a few Sydney stores. No luck they are all quoting $299 or $275. So it looks like it's QLD only promotion or even just the Fortitude Valley store :(

  • +1

I really want to pick it up to use as a Media Center Extender. Using it with my HD TV tuner I have on my PC works great!

    • +1

You have to hard network it.. Wireless doesn't cut it for live TV.. but otherwise it works well.
Tversity has a MCE plugin that will transcode Divx etc files that media centre on xbox doesn't support.

      • +1

360 now supports divx and h264 - not the mkv container though.

        • +1

It doesn't via Media centre though. Which is highly annoying!
Only if you have a USB drive directly attached to the xbox.

          • +1

@ESEMCE: Oh, I thought it was the other way round - ie, it does via media center or UPnP (eg media player) but not through USB attached directly

          • +1

@ESEMCE: Really!? That's bad news to me. How about if using system like TVersity?

            • +1

@jakentta: TVersity is great.. the MCE plugin adds an extra program to your other programs menu.. and it's interface is similar to MC, but on my screen at least, it's greyscale.
TVersity is also a uPnP media Server and transcodes on the fly, so you can just use it stream video from Videos in the My Xbox menu.

Same price as a Nintendo DS Lite? That's pretty crazy.

Sorry for stupid questions, but I couldn't find the information quickly from anywhere. I have understood that the Xbox Live Arcade small games are downloadeble and you need to store them on your own Xbox. But the Arcade version only comes with 256MB memory card so you won't have really much memory to store things on. So, can you swap the card? Any other reasons why I should not go with the Arcade version?

    • You can buy a Hard Drive and extra memory cards.. The 256Mb memory card will fill up VERY quickly.. as you'll have to have the NXE installed on it.
The newest XBLA game for example, The Maw, is 150Mb..

Make sure the model you buy has an HDMI port too (if you currently or in the future might need one). Old Arcade's didn't have HDMI, the new (ie as of 2008) models do, but some retailers were still stock manufactured way back in 2006! (ie DSE before Christmas)

      • you can buy like….160gb hdd for 360/ps3's from pcdiy in box hill/victoria for around ~150 i think it was
        but not too expensive
$350 for a near equivalent to the next upgrade up from the arcade

        • The xbox needs a special hard drive.. it does not have a standard interface and it accepts only 1 type of drive even if you have the caddy that provides the interface.
You can plug a USB drive into the xbox, but it will only read from the drive..

wow, outstanding price ! great find..
i havent got my one on a network, just a usb hd plugged permanently to watch divx and mp3..

anyone able to get this deal price match in victoria?? damn great price, wouldnt mind getting a spare one!

  • +1

so its only in QLD ?

  • The Valley has a Harvey Norman? Since When?

  • Price match???? anyone found it anywhere else?

  • cheap cheap!! wish they have a bargain at this price down in Melb.
Anyone bought one so far, do they come with HDMI connection?

  • No such deal in Toowoomba, QLD - must be store specific

  • I'm still not set on choosing/buying a next gen console anytime soon, but this is a really good deal. Nice picture of the actual product too.

    • -1

      Their hardly next-gen.

      • +1

        Yes, they are.

        • People should stop referring to PS3/Xbox360/Wii as next-gen. They've been the current generation for a while now

  • Went their today all their Core 360's on display seem to be Falcon Model not the newer Jasper's. the PSU rating on the console is 14.2 amps not 12.1 amps

  • Went to my local HN in Shepparton, Vic, and told about this price, but they said that can't sell for that price, no way. What they did have was a lot of Xbox 360 games for $5 each. Titles including Gears of War, Need for Speed Carbon, Timeshift, Half Life 2, FEAR and some others. Also some PS3 games for $5.

    • Damn… that's a bargain in itself! Is that the store that's closing down? I can confirm that my local store in Victoria doesn't have any games for $5 - dropped by on the way home work.

  • Nice photo. Love your work.

  • Wish of the day- OW carry the stock

    everyone is happy 。。。

  • HN are accepting pre-orders for xbox 360 console arcade + halo wars for $299
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/gameshotspot/promo/halowars/i…

might be an okay alternative if you can wait

    • Nice Harvey Norman pre-order link - it would appear the 60gb Pro is changing colour!!

      • Yeh, ice-blue will make a nice change…

  • Any body actually bought one?????

  • +1

Gosh if someone could buy one and I'll pay the postage + extra so they can send it down to Melbourne….

I have bought one, great deal. They have liteon drive so a bit of a challenge to mod. Anyone know someone in brisbane who can do mod for less than $40? Otherwise I will buy tools and do it myself (you can get most things off dealextreme required for key extraction). They seem to be the falcon model.

  • Harvey Norman at Bundall on the goldcoast pricematched for me i got 2 yesterday. Although he did kick up abit of a stink cause i wanted 2.

  • I called up my local harvey norman in wiley park sydney
and asked them to price match, but the best they could
    offer me was $247.

Anyone have any luck getting $199 in sydney?
    Domain? Dick Smith?

  • anyone can post receipt, so we can pm at other HN ?

    thanks

    • please correct your grammer, you sound like a deli owner.

      • mate, when u understand it, grammar wouldnt matter, would it ?

        • You could be more considerate and type proper English - that way people can understand it more easily.
It's not just about your laziness.
It like I put like this, to understand you got to think and just pain in bum. Geddit?

      • +1

Love it when someone tries to correct someone else with work of their own, blind leading the blind.

  • They're now priced at $249 at HN Fortitude Valley, as of 2:30 Monday afternoon :(

  • WOW!
