  • I have a wired printer, can I use this router to print wireless? Does it come with a USB port?

    • Doesn't sound like what you need. If your router has a USB port you can try that.

    • USB port, "yes", what you want to do, "No".

      from http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DIR-412/Datasheet/DIR-412…

      WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES
The DIR-412 allows you to connect a
3.5G USB adapter for mobile broadband
      connectivity. The incoming connection is
then shared via a 802.11n wireless network.
The standard Ethernet port can be used as
      an primary or backup connection.

    • You missed this which will do what you want: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98896

    • Does your printer have an ethernet port, if yes, then you can do what you said above if it's the only wired item on your network and everything else is wireless.

  • not long ago,2 for $17 delivered from centrecom(?)

      • yes thanks for refreshing my memory

        • Yes, but one was $14 inc shipping, so this beats it ;-)

        • If you trust megabuy than go for it. I bought it from Mwave and have to say it arrived on time.

        • I've bought from them before with no issues.

  • Does anyone know if I can just use a ethernet cable to connect this one with my ADSL router?
(meaning I will be using this as a wireless N router, instead of a 3G sharing router)

    • According to the page, yep:

2-in-1 Functionality - Connect a 3G or 3.5G USB adapter and share over a wireless-N connection or connect to your DSL Modem and use as your primary or backup connection

    • I believe it would. It definitely supports that set-up with a 3g dongle plugged in as well to give failover. I suppose it might refuse to operate with no dongle, but that seems silly.
Note Flingshot has dedicated DIR-600 wireless N routers for $17 delivered, and I believe they can run DD-WRT.
I expect they would also offer better range:
      http://flingshot.com.au/collections/networking-d-link

    • Tried before. No problem.

Also it is said to be DD-WRT possible with other firmware too.

    • Thanks guys.
Really need to buy a new one, as my Netcomm router keeps letting me down, always disconnects after a few hours…

  • Bear in mind, a 2.5% "handling fee" is added for credit cards or PayPal.

  • I have one of these and used it in Japan at hotels. Performance when working is fine. We had a problem where only two devices could connect at once, the third would connect by not be assigned an IP. We had to hard reset it to fix this and the first two devices in got service, the rest? bad luck. It's good value for the price as hotels usually lack wifi coverage.

  • Wonder what the catch with this would be - (poor) range, reliability?
They also rarely seem to give out the list of compatible modems.

  • Who's "they"?

    http://www.dlink.com.au/products/?pid=824
"3G Adapter Compatibility List - New Adapters Added (07/2012)", right there in the product spec page.

  • Ah, I see my Huawei K3771 Vodafone featured on Dlink list after all. They, in the sense of wireless router manufacturers in general, I guess are more generous than I had anticipated. Even so, I would expect to assign several IP addresses were this to be considered classed a fair dinkum Router.
