WD 2TB My Book Studio 2 Ext Hard Drive FW400/800/eSATA/USB2 for Mac $79+Delivery (~$9) @ Tech4u

120

Hi All

I received an email this morning from tech4u.com.au which contained a special on the WD 2TB My Book Studio 2 External Hard Drive for Mac for $79 (up to $299 elsewhere). Great price if you want Firewire 400 or 800 (only has USB2) and you can also replace the drives which are currently 2 x 1TB in RAID 0.

2TB Storage capacity
Formatted for Mac
Includes software and instructions for reformatting to Windows.
FireWire 400/800, eSATA, USB 2.0
Automatically backup software
Replace existing drives easily

When searching the site the price is $299 so you will need to use the link provided.

Delivery is approximately $9 per item and they also have a surcharge (2.5%) for CC and even PayPal but Direct Debit has no surcharge.

Not sure how long the special is on for.

Be aware people that tech4u are just megabuy in disguise, hence the stunningly consistent 1.4 out of 5 rating on productreview.

Here is a recent post by an ozb'er that ordered something from itspot (which is yet another one of megabuy's fronts), item arrived poorly packed and minus the bonus cover it should have come with.

  • I'm just curious to know if anyone who has ordered any of the e-mail specials from Megabuy or it's associates has received their item in a timely fashion?

  • ok this is megabuy so beware

however this has esata and firewire and it looks like its user upgradeable so you can easily open it up and not void warranty:

reading the manual, it looks like you can insert 2 drives in the one case for raid 0 or 1

    interesting unit

    • +1

      HP MicroServers feature an eSATAport…

    • I have upgraded my 2x500GB unit to 2x1.5TB for about 2 years now. Working great!

  • 2 x 1TB = heavy!

    • gah

didnt read properly… 2 x 1tb isnt worth it for me

if it s 1 x 2tb i'd buy two of them and reuse the discs and discard the cases

also the reviews say it only works with wdc drives so the cases arent that useful

      • We've got some WD HDD's… send the cases to us.

        (Non-Chemical Recycling works better)

  • got one, thanks

    • after direct deposit was recieved, they sent me an email that the HDD is out of stock.
In the email they first offered me the choice to upgrade to the 4TB model for $499, Second choice was a refund. Clearly Bait and switch strategy from the email.
I emailed them and demanded they send me the 4TB at no additional cost (as the first payment reminder is considered an invitation to buy, thus a contractual agreement). They refused , so i lodged a complaint to ACCC and Fair trading

      Will see how it goes.

Now im convinced that Tech4u are a fraud and will not deal with them again, thought id give them a chance

      • See my first post in this thread. You can't claim you weren't warned :)

I and others have posted this information so many times I've lost count and yet people continue to order from these ***** (insert your own appropriate 5 letter word here).

They have at least FOUR fronts and have all but destroyed the reputation of three of them, wacomputers is the only one they haven't totally ruined but I'm sure that's only a matter of time.

Remember all the names they trade under and remember this experience the next time you see a 'deal' from any of them.

        • i reckon they should be banned from ozbargain
too much hassle dealing with them

  • I find myself thinking "if it sounds too good to be true…"

@easternculture - can you report back if you actually get one and general experience?

    • sure i will

      • Please tell us which cables you get in the box…

A prev deal for a similar (single HDD) Buffulo unit shipped with wrong (or maybe old?) cable for FireWire.

Buffalo's box - from USA? - has a -solid- metal case & white USB cable (Apple cable scheme?).

        • Just reporting on my experience,I ordered 2 as soon as the deal was posted as my laptop only has esata and usb 2.0 not 3.0. This drive would allow me to postpone upgrading to a laptop with usb 3.0.

As IVI said shipping was chargedfor both units, but that was as quoted during the order so everything was upfront.

Package was to be delivered yesterday, startrack express left a missed delivery notice even though someone was present at home? In anycase arranged for re-delivery today and the package arrived safely. Haven't opened the package but the blurb says it comes with a firewire 800 cable but not an esata cable which mirrors the reviews for this unit

    • Ordered one around midnight last saturday, received Wed morning.

  • Vendor charges same S+H fee for EACH unit, even though it says they'll ship together… NO DISCOUNT for ordering several together.

    (Still under $90 each. shipped)

  • "product not found" when I just tried to go to the page now…

  • I placed the order for this drive, money is taken out of my paypal account then order is canceled after 3 days noting out of stock.

Do not buy from tech4u.com.au. They are a bit of a fraud that do not honor the order.
