Edimax BR-6475nD Simultaneous Dual Band (N600) 802.11n Gigabit Router $33 @IJK

90

By far the cheapest simultaneous concurrent dual band (N600) gigabit router in Oz, Afaik the cheapest dual band router, the cheapest gigabit router or hub and cheapest 5GHz access point!
States 1-2day lead time on orders (ordered in when you order).

the edimax BR-6475nD simultaneous dual band gigabit router is going for $32-33 i got one at EYO but they took 3 weeks to order i think because it was too small an order from their vic suppier justify shipping alone - they have since taken it off their list but IJK still has it for $33

There are some pretty decent positive review about
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Review/292738,edimax-br-6475nd… called it the best value dual band even when it was $145
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/pc-peripheral/3304236/edi… were very impressed with its speed just not its menu system
http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-edimax-br-6475nd-300mb… called it The "5GHz Whiz Kid." rating it 8/10 and noting "Compared to the ASUS RT-N56U, Edimax’s 2.4GHz performance is comparable but it was still a shade behind the ASUS router on the 5GHz spectrum. In any case, this is irrefutably one of the better performing dual-band routers we’ve seen from Edimax yet."
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/wifi-routers/371947/edimax-br… says "One of the cheapest dual-band routers around, but performance is absolutely fine"

  • ddwrt is a go.

    • +1

I cant find it - only the BR-6475n

      • +1

yeah looks like no ddwrt or openwrt

        shame

  • Not in stock though.

    • If it's in their catalog you can ask if they will order it in and how long the wait will be.

      • it says they will order it in within 1-2days

  • NOBODY likes the cheapest simultaneous dual band 2.4 and 5GHz router with gigabit switch in the country???
I mean - it is also the cheapest dual band router, the cheapest gigabit router, the cheapest gigabit hub and cheapest 5GHz access point!

    • We would like it more if we knew it could run DD-WRT and that reviews show it can maintain a decent throughput.
It does look alright although there was a comparable and better deal here recently for a D-LINK dual band router, so comparisons are also made in that respect.

and if somebody saw fit to donate one to the ddwrt devs there would rapidly be support (i recall seeing them ask for it iirc) - 2 is still cheaper than most of its kin lol.

I did see the DIR-825 on sale $8 cheaper, but i also saw how quickly it disappeared. I dont know that I would be hoping too hard to see that deal again myself given it would have been end of model clearance.

Anyway - Up to all of you what you want - jus surprised I was the ONLY one at the time wha had liked it

        • Looks good on paper.
The pcauthority (#1) and pcpro (#4) reviews look like they're the same (syndicated?).

Also, the review links in the OP are broken (they are truncated after about 60 characters).

        • +1

Thanks heaps for the heads up about the links being broken. Hadnt noticed that nor the affiliation you note between the two - no point deleting them now tho i guess, esp given one has more pics and a useful comment but the other has aussie pricing etc. Also both appear to have (different) relevant links.
          Thanks heaps again

  • I wonder what the LAN to WAN throughput is?

    • I dont have any stats - havent set mine up yet, SIL moving house, but they are all on a single 5 port switch chip so I imagine that once a connection is established & negotiated it would be pretty stellar.
I may have missed some massive overhead in my lack of knowledge of lower level networking but it would be mind bogglingly inefficient if every packet had to go through the CPU.

      • Usually when you're using NAT on your WAN connection, every packet will need to go via the CPU for the source or destination IP address to be re-written.

According to http://wikidevi.com/wiki/Edimax_BR-6475nD however, the RT3662 SOC used in this router supports hardware NAT which greatly improves the performance of that process. This is the same SOC used in the Asus RT-N56U, which claims 900mbit WAN to LAN throughput, so it's quite possible the performance of this will be similar.

Was planning to buy one just as a cheap little dual-band AP, but it looks like the IJK website is now down :(

        • Thank you for the more indepth information - I am indebted to you. I am an electronic technician but only a second year engineering student and not a network specialist, but it does seem obvious now that all the packet headers would have to be re-written for NAS to function.
It does seem the IJK website has been ozbargained at present, perhaps give it a little time for somebody to notice the database is offline? lol

  • I wonder if they will fix their site tomorrow

  • I Think they already updated their site with:"Product not found!"
