Up to 30K QFF Points for Joining Qantas Life Insurance Approx $17 Per Month. 60 Day Minimum

3630

Hi All,

Stumbled across this deal where if you sign up to Qantas Life Insurance and also add another service such as total disability cover you can get 30,000 points on sign up.

What I did was put the lowest possible cover for Life Insurance which was $100,000 and then the lowest possible for Total Permanent Disability Insurance and the total came to $16.87 per month.

The best thing about this is that the 30,000 QFF points are credited after 60 days, so essentially you are looking at 30K points for around the cost of $34.00.

T&Cs simply state:
1 Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Protect Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more. Qantas Points will be credited after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. Not available to existing Qantas Assure Life Protect policyholders.

When I change my policy cover the bonus points remains the same, so I only assume they will provide the points to you after 60 days, does not mention anything about a minimum specifc for coverage.

Good luck all and have a play around with the various types of minimum cover to see if you can get it cheaper.

    Cheers OP

Thanks for choosing Qantas Assure Life Protect.
Your application has been successful and soon you'll receive a digital copy of your Welcome Pack with details of your cover, that you'll need to check and confirm are correct.

Got it down to $8.01 and used a Coles re-loadable MasterCard which ill turn off after they take the second payment

    • Never been penalised using this idea? I guess your best and worse case scenario are the same…they cancel your insurance.

      • Bad thing
Haven't you noticed when applying for a quote they ask you have you had any insurances cancelled

        • I thought that was for fraud, or maybe other deliberate acts (Like burning your house down and claiming) etc. Interesting.

        • @tunzafun001:
That's called insurance rejected or denied

    • Mine said the same but I'm waiting for the "digital" copy to arrive. Did you got the email?

Just tried to take out life insurance on my toddler.
And failed, as there's a minimum age limit of 18.
Will have to explain in years to come that "it's why mummy and daddy had to take that nice holiday without you".

    • I cant even do it for my wife, who is a housewife :(

  • I did it once, accidentally answered "admitted to hospital" question as "yes" (thought it said did I GO to the hospital for anything) - got the "we'll call you message".
Did it a second time without issue - really didn't expect to get through second attempt, considering my previous application!

    Great find OP.

Ok soooo OZB is going from applying/cancelling credit cards to life insurances… i wonder what comes next?

    • +9

The logical next step is to fake one's injury or death on day 59 to claim payment as well as the FF points.

Grand total of $5.99/month with Life (Accident only) and Income (Accident only, 2yr wait, 1yr benefit).

At least someone at Qantas Assure will pray that I never die during the policy period ;)

P.s. I left the beneficiary field blank to avoid wishing any one up.

  • Thanks OP, got mine to $8.01. Looks like I was successful immediately.

  • I'm surprised they didn't have a

"Do you ride a motorcycle?" question in there

    • They do, it's just under the sport section for whatever reason.

  • Thanks for the post this got me signing up for life insurance.

  • managed to squeeze mine to $8.42

  • +1

Got it down to about 10.15

Happy with that, answered everything truthfully

  • Pretty good deal!

  • +1

What should an unemployed mechanical engineer with zero income choose? XD

My last job involved using explosives and looking for gas reserves.
    Curse this life

  • Squeezed mine down to $7.80, no to everything, $100k coverage for life and TPD. Lowest possible coverage.

Qantas must think today a lot of chicken sh*t software engineers are scared for their lives lol

  • On a serious note - if I want to actually get life insurance (as a 29 yr old software developer), is this a good deal? And should I be getting level premiums so I don't have to pay more in the future? Or is it still a bit too early to look at taking out a life insurance policy?

    • dont ask or think, just do this then reconvene after getting the 30K points :D

    • This is probably a question for a financial advisor or expert.

It's never too early to get life insurance if you have dependents/family you want to be looked after if you die. Stepped vs Level at your age doesn't really matter, the steps are tiny until you get older.

I think you'll find a better deal if you shop around, but worst case - take out this cover (and insure yourself for more than the minimum of $100K) now, and switch to a better provider when you find one.

  • If it went through successfully you should get policy document at 01:00 tonight

    • +1

assuming the person getting it doesn't get hit by the bus by 12:59:59am tonight :p

Got $9.59 with the 10% BMI discount as a 27 y.o. professional answering pretty truthfully.

Planning to go to the US in June and my QFF points balance was short about 20k to get myself and the missus upgraded to Business (as Qantas increased all the upgrade point requirements last month…)

Was thinking about signing up for a random QFF credit card for the bonus points, then this beauty of a deal comes along!

    Thanks heaps OP!

    • But the points will only get credited in May?

      • +1

Yep, and I'm travelling in June. For QFF classic upgrade rewards you basically get it confirmed a week before you fly anyway.

        • +2

Ah sorry, didn't see the word upgrade. Yeah not a fan of the Qantas lottery.

    • +2

What qantas status are you? Those US business class upgrades can be hard to get!

      • +2

Better be Gold or higher or it's almost impossible

        • Yep I am Gold so should have a decent chance at it.

  • $6.61 per month Life & TPD. Thanks OP!

  • +1

13.26 total with Life and TDP and healthy bmi

No idea how you got it into single digits when I tried and changed income etc.

  • +1

Got down to $6.31 per month! Female 28 office worker with healthy BMI.

    • Ugh I wish I was female sometimes, I swear with car insurance as soon as you select male, premiums increase by 4x

  • If you actually want the insurance, I'm not convinced it is great value. My insurance done through my super is much better value.

At first glance, it seems to be only good for the FF points. But I'll ring them just to see.

    • +1

Value is not the only thing you need to consider when looking at insurance. Especially when you're paying for that insurance out of Super.

      • Yep. Definitely worth reading up on the pros and cons before determining whether to go with insurance through your super or not. It may or may not save some money, but there are differences generally should you need to claim and potentially what you can claim for too that might be worth paying extra for.

        • I looked into my "insurance through super" very carefully and it is good value with great benefits, good conditions, limits, etc. As far as I see it, it's just another insurance policy paid through another means.

        • @brownbag: it's definitely a good way to go about it from a value perspective so if it ticks the boxes then there's no reason not to. Sorry, wasn't suggesting people go one way or another, just that it's worth comparing the cover.

  • How do you select the Permanent Disability Insurance?

All I see is "Total Permanent Disability Insurance Unavailable"

    ??

    • what age did you put in? that happened to me initially but upped the age a bit and the option appeared

  • I found that by including accident cover but excluding sports cover I got a cheaper price than just disabling accident cover (which then didn't allow me to select a sports cover)

  • Anyone else having issues processing payment?

Mine keeps coming up as an error

  • +1

    Your Premium$8.67
    MONTHLY
Your Monthly premium will be $8.67.

    :D

  • I get to the point where they send you an email with the quote but no option to pay online? Says call up to finalise :( anyone else having this issue.

    • don't email the quote confirm the quote and continue answering/editing the questions/options on the next page.

  • In the PDS it says "^ Any offer of Qantas Points is at the discretion of Qantas and may change or be withdrawn at any time, including if Qantas ceases
to be the promoter of the product."

What do you all make of this? Reckon we will get our points?

  • I'm getting a DNS error when trying to access the site.

  • Got this $8.01 per month but not with my details. They exclude people under 18 so I wouldn't be able to sign up. Not sure if I'll go ahead with it but I may, can't see too much harm in it.

For anyone interested these are the details I used:
    08/08/1991
    Computer Maintanence Engineer
    Male
    170cm
    58kg
    $50,000 income

  • Pardon me for being oblivious but what do you use QFF for?

    • +1

Gift cards, cheap flights, products. Heaps of things, just check out their website.

  • Thanks for sharing!
Have just signed up for under $10/month.

Need to set an alert to call up and cancel

    • Can we set up an alert through Ozbargain?

  • Do we need to give a reason to cancel the policies? What is the good reason to cancel?

    • +5

"I really only joined to get the QFF points, I have no interest in keeping this insurance." should work

  • $7.68 here!

    • Ditto, and that was answering honestly too!

  • All right, I got $4.39/m here. Anyone is lower than that?

    • All right, I found a lower one ——- my wife, only $3.35/m!

Edit: It seems I forgot to tick the TPD, which will bring up to $8.59/m.

  • Hmm just tried for my girlfriend and it didn't go through to payment and requires a callback?…

    • Teleunderwriting. Something you entered flags as a risk.

  • Anyone try to apply and when you click on Calculate basic Quote they get error?

    • yup ozbargained

      • I'm getting an error too, let's hope the party isn't over so soon…

  • +1

Getting an error too. Can't go past personal details…

  • +3

Anyone received their email yet? I still haven't received mine.

    • Yeah I was able to check out and didnt get any emails at all.

      • you have to call them up for them to confirm the policy and pay on the spot. The whole process took a good 20 mins for me.

        • Did you put in the payment and went to "thank you blah blah", and then called them up?

        • @yycan:

Yeap because you then call them up quoting the reference number that was given

        • @nightelves: Damn, I didn't write down the reference number.

        • @yycan:

You should be able to get them to retrieve it with your details. I found with the reference number it was easy for them to retrieve my details.

        • I got instant approval with a reference number when I applied yesterday morning, but they didn't debit my credit card until this morning. Hopefully either the digital welcome pack, or a mailed out pack will be on the way. So far I've heard nothing, and the Qantas Assure app still doesn't know I have purchased a policy, it keeps prompting me to purchase one in order to 'unlock' the points I'm earning for the daily steps.

Perhaps it takes a few days minimum for the systems to update and the policy to become live.

        • @bonezAU:

How can you add in the Life policy in your Assure App?

        • @nightelves:

It should automatically detect it once your policy goes live. I emailed them to ask why my points were still locked and they told me to wait 24 hours. It will pick it up because you sign into the Assure app via your QFF number, surname and PIN - the same credentials it uses when you sign up for the insurance policy.

        • @bonezAU:

Oh ok cool because I was able to login into the Assure app using my Qantas details.

  • 1 Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Protect Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more. Qantas Points will be credited after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days.

    2 Questions :

    1) Does that mean that I get only QFF 10000 for getting one policy. Do I read it wrong here ? How come people are assuming 30000 QFF here ?
    2) I think one needs to factor 3 months premium atleast (Not 2 as few have mentioned). Is that right ?

    Regards

    • +1

I read 10k for 1 product (Life Insurance), 30k for 2 + products (add Total Permanent Disability Insurance). I also suspect you will end up paying for 3 months.

  • Got it down to $10.49 for both life and TPD. Removed accidental cover from Life insurance.

  • This has worked out well. Had to book a flight to Perth for this weekend. Return was looking at $950. I added 30k points for pay (which I already had) and it brought the cost down to ~$700. Happy days.

  • One point that may be useful to remember, income protection insurance may be tax deductible depending on your circumstances.

  • For those without email, it might be due to this.

Based on the information you've provided, it looks like we need to contact you for more information. We'll be in touch shortly.

    • That's odd, I'm quite sure I went through to "thank you" page after payment.

      • I didn't get a payment option, waiting for a call I guess…

        • You'll be waiting for a while as they might have a backlog. Best to call them yourself. Whole process takes about 20mins to complete

        • @nightelves: Thanks I did and it did take quite a while…

    • In the same boat

  • +5

my payment was taken out of my account ~1hr ago

    • Did you re-apply and mark yourself as a citizen or did they ring you?

      • re-applied! mine wasn't due to being a citizen though, I misread a question :)

        • Ah, ok. I just got off a call from them and if you're not at least PR, no dice.

  • +2

For anyone who "paid" but has not received an email, you can login to the portal using your QFF details without knowing your policy number.

In my account at least I have an active policy but the payment due date isn't for 30 days (no payment has been taken yet and I signed up yesterday)

    • my policy is "In Force", time to damage myself ;) lol

    • Wish I could do that but they're sending the SMS code to my old number which I already updated when going through the quote and payment :(
I changed my number on my QFF account but it doesn't update to the Assure account. Dammit!

      • Live chat sorted it out.
My status is "In Force" too, great!
