Up to 30K QFF Points for Joining Qantas Life Insurance Approx $17 Per Month. 60 Day Minimum

3630

Hi All,

Stumbled across this deal where if you sign up to Qantas Life Insurance and also add another service such as total disability cover you can get 30,000 points on sign up.

What I did was put the lowest possible cover for Life Insurance which was $100,000 and then the lowest possible for Total Permanent Disability Insurance and the total came to $16.87 per month.

The best thing about this is that the 30,000 QFF points are credited after 60 days, so essentially you are looking at 30K points for around the cost of $34.00.

T&Cs simply state:
1 Policyholders will earn 10,000 Qantas Points for purchasing one Qantas Assure Life Protect Insurance and 30,000 for purchasing two or more. Qantas Points will be credited after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. Not available to existing Qantas Assure Life Protect policyholders.

When I change my policy cover the bonus points remains the same, so I only assume they will provide the points to you after 60 days, does not mention anything about a minimum specifc for coverage.

Good luck all and have a play around with the various types of minimum cover to see if you can get it cheaper.

        • @sunaus:

Same situation here. Cancelled via the automated system a week ago, account still in force. Cancelled by speaking to someone earlier this week, account still in force.

If I get charged a 4th monthly payment I will be fuming at these incompetent idiots..

        • @krazek:
          Contact the Financial Services Ombudsman?

        • Same here. It's only been 24h for me though.

        • @bozbargain:
The automated cancellation system said it was going to send an email confirmation. Has anyone seen their confirmation email?

        • +1

@foundit: Reading through the comments, it looks like no one has received these. It's probably not set up correctly. The fact that accounts show 'lapsed' for some and that letters are being sent out is a good sign.

@bozbargain: I never got a cancellation email, but I did receive a cancellation letter in the post

@tomclancy: I also received a cancellation letter in the post.

No email yet, but my qantas assure app now says the points are locked and that I can unlock them by taking out a policy. I would think this means that cancellation has been successful.

Do I have to download the Assure App? Or will my points still transfer to my normal Frequent Flyer account? Thanks

  • Don't forget to check your Qantas points folks - my points came in last week and I just rang 134960 to cancel my policy (if you don't have your 7-digit policy number ready, a rep can look this up for you).

  • I received a letter in the post today confirming my policy has been cancelled. I cancelled on 17/5 using cuy's automated-message method. Happy days!

    • Did you have to download the Assure App? Or will my points still display in my normal Frequent Flyer account? Thanks

      • +1

I did download the Qantas Assure app (and faked the runs, cycling, competition to earn bonus points) so I can't comment on how it works without the app. I don't see why it would be any different, you should get the points like everyone else

        • Thanks man!

just spoke to customer service. Apparently they said their cancellation system is experiencing technical difficulty.. low and behold, lol. Well I would like their payment system to experience a technical difficulty to couple with that.

  • I'm still waiting for cancellation etc.
I can still access my QANTAS assure app and noticed my points are now in excess of 31,000 (formerly around 1,000).
(no points added to my QANTAS account since 19 May)

    • Qantas Assure website now says my membership is in "Lapsed" state.
Points have not come through yet.

Has anyone who cancelled, gotten a pro rata repayment yet, for the amount of the final month that they were not covered?

      • +1

I'm hoping to get a pro-rata refund but the CSR I spoke to wouldn't give me a direct answer.

        • Aye, I cancelled the insurance and got billed 3 days later for the next month before they cancelled mine.
Really hope they refund in the next few days so I don't have to chase that.

        • @foundit: Looking at my account I don't think I'll get a refund. It appears as though my insurance is valid up until the next payment is due.

        • @sween64:
Mine says it is no longer in force so … I'm thinking a refund is in order, since they took payment for the whole month but aren't covering me

        • @foundit: My status is "Lapsed" and my expiry date is set to 14/6/17 when my next payment was due. Maybe our cancellations were processed differently to each other…

        • @sween64:
I see, if I click on View Details, under the policy, it says lapsed and expiry date 21/6/2017

If you hover over the question mark next to "Lapsed" it explains that the policy is "No longer in force".

        • @foundit: Yeah I've got that too. I'm not gonna bother calling for a potential $4.50 refund. Let me know if you're successful and then I might try.

The letter might explain it a bit more.

        • +1

@foundit: My letter also states expiry as 14/6/17. As both of ours are future dated I wouldn't expect a pro rata refund.

I suspect the hover tool tip is displaying incorrectly.

    • Thanks to the OP :)

Also confirming that I got my points now.

  • Thanks to the OP. Was worth it in the end.

Saved a $500 hit to my bank account by using points for hotel!

    Legend!!!

  • just received the cancellation letter

  • Just a heads up: I've used the method outlined in this comment and although I was told the cancellation was successful, I still got charged this month. So make sure you're not still being charged!

I called 13 49 60, chose Life Insurance and then Existing Member and was put to a person straight away who was happy to cancel the policy and refund the charge.
