  • I purchased an aldi sim for this. Do I need to be able to receive an sms on the aldi sim to port out the number?

Or is that not required for this?

    • +1

Yes, pretty sure I had to read off a code or two for the JB rep that were sent to the number to be ported (ie the aldi number).
You'll have $5 worth of credit and I think it used down to about $3.50 for me when I did it a few days ago so no need to buy more credit (just don't go browsing insta while you wait).

1 - buy aldi sim and activate it online (install aldi app on phone as well)
2 - you'll get sent an sms to your current number that you entered when activating it saying it's ready to go
3 - swap sims and go into jb (new aldi number will be found in aldi app)
4 - sign up for jb plan and port over number and just follow the steps

      • Is porting and cancelling a hassle on our existing number? It's last day today and I'm sure I can't do it all in one day cz I'm at work.

    • +1

Yes you will to initiate the port

  • I've read over this thread but still very confused (sorry)

I have gift cards to use at JB Hi-Fi (10% off when purchased)
Want to purchase iphone 16pro 128gb for child - what will I be charged at JB? and is there limit to how many gift cards can be used?
and who do I pay the $800 cancellation fee too? can I use gift cards for this?

I don't want to lose child's current phone plan, so can I get aldi $5 sim and use this and then throw away afterwards?

Thankls to anyone who takes time to reply

    • +2

Want to purchase iphone 16pro 128gb for child - what will I be charged at JB?

If you’re going on the 128GB variant, your price at JB is $377

is there limit to how many gift cards can be used?

No limit as you have to sign up in store

who do I pay the $800 cancellation fee too? can I use gift cards for this?

It’s in the FAQ linked in OP’s description. Please have a read on it. You are paying the $766.69 to Telstra as they will be the one generating the invoice. If you have a current active plan, you don’t need to pay the initial $99 to JB, otherwise this will be done in store upfront. Both $99 and $766.69 can’t use gift cards to pay. It will need to be your debit/credit card

can I get aldi $5 sim and use this and then throw away afterwards?

Yes. You can just ask the Telstra/JB Mobile chat to cancel the plan. Again this is in the FAQ

    • +1

      Your child is very lucky!

  • would this little trick affect my credit score ?

    • +1

Yes, a credit check is conducted upon signing up.

  • +1

Bought an Aldi sim, went to JB. They logged in to my account and said credit check failed!!!

I was asked to check at Telstra store, but Telstra store staff said that there is nothing they can do. I’ll have to talk to Telstra credit team??

    Oh well…

    At least I tried.

  • Do I cancel via Telstra chat or jbhifi chat?

    • telstra

    • I did it via the jb hi fi mobile app

  • Anyone else can't make the payment early? I am in the JBHIFI mobile app and under payment tab it says 'No services'. I have received the final bill but only option is direct debit. I would like to make the payment before the direct debit date if that's possible.

    • When I spoke to them on chat they said you can make advance payment:

“If you wish to pay in advance, you will need to call the hotline at 135244 9AM-6PM AEST everyday, as we don't process payments here on messaging space”

    • +3

you can make the payment in Telstra app

      • Thank you.

I was trying to make the payment through the JBHIFI mobile app but when I went to the payment tab it said no services, you don't have any active services with us and when I tried live chatting they just send me an invoice with no option to make the payment.

    • I can't log in to jbhi because it tries to send an sms code to the number that was cancelled (doesn't offer to use email) - so for me no it's not possible in a nutshell.

  • Just wondering can one person sign up for 2 plans to get 2 x $1400? I've already got my first iphone and cancelled immediately. tempting to go for a second one.

  • Hi guys i went to jb hifi to crack this deal as told by many members. But what i found is iphone 16 only at 0$ with 99$ and if i cancel the plan i have to pay 800$. But i was looking for iphone 16 pro max jb hifi gave me 1400$ off on the phone and i have to pay the remaining amount 1447$ on the spot with 99$ plan. If i would cancel the plan i have to pay 800$ more so total amount would be 1447+800+99 for 1TB i need to pay 1447$ on the spot . So this deal is not for every phone or i did something wrong? Please guide me

    • You pay upfront iPhone Pro max price minus $1400 plus $99 for the plan.

Then upon cancellation you pay another $766. Then you can request $99 as a refund if you are lucky.

    • Correct

      Today you will pay:
      Phone cost $2847
      Minus $1400 credit = $1447
      + $99 first month = $1546

      Cancel the contract afterwards ~$800

Total cost $2346 for a $2847 phone which you’re saving $501 compared to paying for the phone upfront

  • ok - went to jb with my aldi sim and went through the process. I wasn't charged the $99 in store because they found I had an account already (I use to have Telstra NBN and Mobile services, but neither are active with them anymore).

Went through Telstra chat and cancelled the service when I got home, and was quoted $766.59 via chat (I kept the transcript showing this).

I received the invoice via email which is asking for more, $799.92. Guess I should just pay it and not question the amount via chat? They won't charge the $99 will they?

    • No, if you weren’t charged for the $99, you will get the $799.92. I’m unsure why Telstra quoted you the $766.59 amount - maybe the rep didn’t check whether your account was charged for the $99

      • The rep said they checked, but I won't complain. I'll just pay the $799, keep quite, and enjoy the iPhone lol

  • I've missed this FML - can't buy it online. Chance of getting tomorrow nil?

    • +1

The deal was extended previously, they might extend it again will see tomorrow

      • Hopefully they run the promo again next month when I'm back in the country!!

        • It’s been extended (again) until 30 April

          • +1

@Heybargain: Only $1300 gift card though.

            • +4

@Duece1995: This offer has been extended a couple of times now, website shows $1300 but in store shows $1400. I won't be surprised if they still are offering the $1400 in store.

        • +4

For me the staff member honoured the offer by reducing the iPhone price to $1300!

  • +1

So, went into JB Hifi and bought a 16 Pro Max 256 with this $1400 deal. I ported from a amaysim number.

So now, to go back to amaysim, is the best course of action to just port over to amaysim, or do I cancel first over telstra chat? If I cancel the number with Telstra first, can I then get the same number with amaysim again? I'd like to keep the number. Wouldnt the number need to be active to allow porting?

    • If you cancel the number with Telstra first, then you cannot get the same number with amaysim again. The number need to be active to allow porting. I did only porting and the final invoice came after a few hours.

  • Anyone managed to get $1400 off today?

    • +1

      Yes, Greensborough VIC 3088.

    • +1

Not at Parramatta NSW. Only $1300

  • So it currently lists a gift voucher worth $1100 with this deal as a signup bonus , can I spend that 1100 and then cancel , be then charged the $800 cancellation fee and technically only then be $300’out of pocket ? Is that right ?

    • +2

The $1100 is for other phones, not specifically for this extra bonus on the iPhone 16 range.

Say for example you were to sign up to the iPhone 16 128GB

      Today you will pay:
      Phone cost $1377
Minus $1300 jb hi fi credit = $77
      + $99 first month = $176

      Cancel the contract afterwards ~$800

Total cost $976 for a $1377 phone which you’re saving $401 compared to paying for the phone upfront

      • +1

        So for clarity

        iPhone 16 plus 128gb $1597
        Less $1300 voucher = $297
        + $99 and $800 cancellation fee
        = $1196 total spend?
        Effectively saving $401

  • -1

Is there an option to pay $865 via JB gift cards in their mobile app?

    • +6

No. Have already explained it in the FAQ

      • +1

you have the patience of a saint. Bless you. I'd be well and truly over it by now.

        • +1

Ahahaha, my stress level is high

  • -5

anyone done the cancellation today and paid ~$800?

    • Why question it if you haven’t read 10 pages of the comments?

    • +1

Cancellation was done today, has 10 days to pay the balance or they will direct debit from my account. I have active account with Telstra (Home internet and boost prepaids).

  • -6

If I return the phone … will I get $1400 in gift card ? Or has to buy another phone ?

    • +3

you'll go to jail. Don't do it.

    • +4

Don’t exploit an exploit and ruin it for all of us
      Be considerate…

  • Hi,

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-iphone-16-128gb-whi…
The webpage says the discount is $1300 for $99/month, but when I click on the full terms & conditions (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans), it says $1100 only.

    Did the deal change?

    • It has been explained above

      • +1

sorry haha thanks for the reply tho

  • +1

Guys, if anyone in Brisbane got the $1400 offer today please share which JB.

  • the $5 Aldi sim you will have to go in store to buy one dont you? Can i buy an $2 e-sim like from Kogan instead? then i can activate straight without have to go into store like Aldi?

    Thank you

    • Aldi is recommended because it is generally the fastest to port. Aldi uses Telstra wholesale network, so there is less wait time for the port. Kogan uses TPG Vodafone network so Vodafone needs to agree to release the number. Normally, it is still reasonably quick, but can have long delays at times.

According to some of the OZBers, they couldn't complete the deal on the day due to porting delay on the long weekend. It's more about less complication when you do the porting, rather than how easy it is for you to activate a new number initially.

    • If you’re eligible, you can sign up for a free 7 day eSIM trial with Optus https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902663

This is what I used. Signed up for a new service online, added the eSIM to my phone.
Then went straight to jb hi fi & initiated the port. No issues at all & was in and out of jb within an hour.

    • its interesting that they will allow Aldi but not Boost (got denied with Boost)

  • $1300 off at JB Hi Fi Canberra Centre. Disappointed I missed out on the $1400 off, but still a great deal for a phone I was already looking to get

EDIT: sorry if this is already in the FAQ, but who charges the $99 plan fee is it Telstra or JB?

    • JB

      • +1

I went to JBHIFI in Townhall, They lowered the price of iphone 16 256 gb Pro to $1925 from $1977 , I had 5% off gift card, paid balance via gift card.
Straight away, contacted telstra to cancel the plan. I haven't been charged $99 yet. However please note the phone number has been cancelled such that the phone number is no longer in use for ever. Be carful if you are planning this to happen and using regular phone number to port in to Telstra/JB.

        • +1

Be carful if you are planning this to happen and using regular phone number to port in to Telstra/JB.

If this was your intention then it’s best to port out rather than cancelling. It’ll be the same ETC

          • +1

@BargainsGrabber: I had a spare number, so didn't really bothered me. Thank you for the info.

          • @BargainsGrabber: I never activated the sim, cancelled the service. I haven't been charged $99 yet, checked the JB mobile app, there is no active service and final bill of $799 to pay. Did i save the first month $99 as well?

            • +1

@NPB: Yup. If your bill is $799, that means the $99 wasn’t charged at all

            • +1

@NPB: Seems like your situation is the same as me. I was never charged the initial $99 in store because I already had a Telstra account, and the JB sales person found my details in the system. My final bill was $799 as well.

              • @nk2421: did we save $99?

                • @NPB: it would seem so. too early to tell. my telstra app login doesn't show any payments due in future, so hopefully there's no $99 coming out.

      • Phone plan is cancelled, havent' seen any deduction of $99 yet. I have received a final invoice of $799.

  • -5

What is the catch with this deal ?? I am sure business are not giving away anything free , giving away $1377 worth product free…can't understand the logic behind yet…"no more free lunch" ?

    any thoughts?

    • -1

If you don’t understand then there’s no point for you to sign up

      • -4

@BargainsGrabber thanks for responding, would have appreciated some explanation !

  • -5

Can we combine the $1100 telstra deal with the Telstra $1300 deal (now it's not $1400) Iphone deal so basically, with $1100 voucher get new telstra number and pay cancellation of $800 ($1100 - $800 + $99 = $201) we still get $200 benefit over and above the iphone 16 voucher benefit? Reply ASAP. It's last day today and I need to buy iphone 16 pro 512gb costing $2347 on jbhifi.

  • Could I do this by transferring my eSIM from my old iPhone to the 16, then simply cancelling the service? I don’t see any problem but I’ve never dealt with a postpaid plan before.

  • +3

Can you get the difference of the price of the phone after signing up on this? The prices of iPhone Pros dropped by $200

    • The offer is now expired.

      • +2

What I mean is if we can get the difference back as price when we bought the iPhone was at RRP and is less than 30 days.

        • If you bought the phone outright (not signing up to plan), yes maybe.

        • Definitely worth a shot, came here looking for an answer. Please let us know how you go. Cheers

          • @Wezzer: Just went straight to the counter, mentioned the price drop and refund issued. Simple
Now I still have the hand written receipt at the full price for TRS but not a qualifying receipt for the lesser price. Will claim the full price and see how that goes.

    • Why not call the store and check out , they should be able too if the phone was purchased with in 14 days, give it a go and let us know ?
