    • It would have been nice if they put the time in like any other company's promo

    • Promo says it ends tomorrow but most stores are closed lol

    • Sales rep confirmed it’s on until the 23/04

  • If you’re planning to sell your old phone, I’m curious about your approach. I’ve considered trade-in services like MobileGuru, Mobile Monster, and Reebelo, but I’m unsure which one to choose or if they’re reputable. On the other hand, standard trade-in places like Apple, JBHIFI, and Officeworks seem to offer lower prices. I’m also hesitant to use Facebook Marketplace.

    • I just listed and sold on FB marketplace took 2 days lol, don't waste your time with the trade in services they are a ripoff unless you can walk into one and do it.

    • +1

eBay even after fees will net you much more than any trade-in services. What’s your old phone?

    • I've used both MobileGuru, Mobile Monster, - was very nervous but had no issues!

  • -2

Can anyone confirm if I am able to do it two more times as I have already done it once on Thursday and already cancelled but I am getting mixed signals saying I can't do it again?

    Cheers

    • +2

Bro, give rest of us a chance 😆

    • Let us know if you do and it works

  • Do we cancel via JB Hi-fi or Telstra? Some said JB others said Telstra.

And this is to be done via Live Chat?

    • +2

      Telstra live chat.

  • +3

For anyone still on the fence, I did it this morning with an Aldi sim card ($5), got the iPhone 16 ($1397 - $1400 gift card at JB = +$3), and just cancelled with Telstra ($99 first month + $766.59 pro-rata).

    • Which stores open today?

      • All across Brisbane.

  • +1

Anybody have issues porting out from Lebara , got the Lebara sim activated this morning and went to the Jb Hi-Fi store and it’s taking ages for porting out

    • Well it's sunday, (and a holiday) - under the rules, porting doesn't have to be done until Tuesday

    • +1

I had issues porting from Vodafone this morning, it didn't go through.

      • Same issue porting to Vodafone. I couldn't
be bothered contacting Telstra or JB Hifi to cancel my plan. Thought I'd just port out. Vodafone were not sure whether it would go through Monday, due to the public holiday, but should go through Tuesday.

    • Also having trouble porting out from Vodafone. Bought a prepaid sim this morning, activated it no problem. Went to JB, got signed up for Telstra, the port has been initiated by them but isn't being actioned by Vodaphone.

Not exactly sure why by JB did not give me the phone and the voucher until the port completes. When I rang vodaphone they speculated that it's not happening because it's a holiday but the person I spoke to wasnt clear on that. It sounded more like his best guess.

I'm concerned that if the port doesn't happen til Tuesday, JB won't honour the sale pricing and I'll be left holding the bag.

Has anyone else been in this position before with a delayed porting? Does JB honour the sale pricing in the end?

      • I’m in the same situation. I tried to port from Lebara, which also uses the Vodafone network. I completed all the contract stuff and credit checks, and everything went smoothly. But when they tried to port over, I was told that the port had been initiated by JB Hi-Fi, but it hadn’t been actioned by Lebara /Vodafone. The salesperson didn’t give me the phone and said I couldn’t hand it over or get the $1400 voucher until the port was completed. So, I asked him what would happen if the offer ran out and the port was still incomplete. He said I should still be able to get the same offer since the contract had already been signed, and it shouldn’t affect us. I hope this applies to you as well.

        • +1

Cheers mate. I rang the store back and they said the same. The offer had been initiated before the end of the sale date, so it'll be honoured even if I pick up the phone midweek.

  • +2

Thanks OP and other contributors, that was much quicker process than I expected. Paid the remainder with my AMEX, curious if anyone knows if Amex honor the screen protection warranty if the bulk of the phone invoice is paid with giftcard?

    • +1

I’m also curious - my first payment had to be visa so I’m not sure it would count. In the amex t&c it notes payment of a data plan for 3 consecutive months prior to any claim or having paid for the phone outright in one single transaction. Potentially with the ETC showing at 23 months of payment maybe it would count, but not sure.

  • +3

Just did with ALDi SIM at local JB HiFi.
Everything was smooth, for anyone unsure you need to have an activated SIM that is in a phone (they need to send a text to your number to port it across). Our ALDi SIM took about 10 mins to activate.

Contacted JB HiFi chat - they were fine to cancel service but declined to refund the $99, downloaded the Telstra app and asked for the same via live chat - they were happy to cancel and refund the $99. So Telstra Chat > JB HiFi chat

    • What was the reason you gave? Keep getting pushed back on the $99 refund

      • +3

No reason just said I never used it or even put it in my phone. They didn’t ask for any reasons. I think it’s rep rather than reason dependant

        • Thanks, yeah - I got ask heaps of questions all of the time. I assumed it's maybe because they have chat history. Have you paid off the remaining ~7xx ETC?

      • I got my 99 refunded via telstra as well, I told them I havent even used the service why am I paying for it?

    • I think it depends on the agent rather than the app. I just requested refund on jb app and the agent said my $99 was still pending. Once the payment status is changed they will contact me via email for the refund. Sounds very promising. :)

  • +1

Done this yesterday and was very straightforward! Cancelled via telstra live chat and asked to have the first month fee of 99 waived as i had hardly used the contract. They said that was fine. Now just waiting to receive the invoice to pay the termination fee.

I'm actually wondering if I can just repeat this process tomorrow and use a different e-mail address and another aldi sim. Or whether it will flag up in they're system and block it.

    • When cancelling, does Telstra send a code to the sim you want to cancel? I have put it in a phone yet, i just want to cancel. Wondering if i should have it in my phone before contacting them to cancel?

      • +1

I don't think so from what I remember, just put the sim in, activate it then go onto their live chat and ask to cancel + have the first month refunded.

  • Did all this today, ported in number (amaysim sim) is now not working and I can’t log in to jb mobile or Telstra id as it requires 2FA with that phone number. I luckily cancelled in time through the app but now phone number is just saying SOS. Didn’t get a chance to get on Telstra app to ask for $99 refund, any ideas?

    • Wait for the $99 payment to be processed and then ask for refund. I asked and they said for it to be processed then they will refund it.

      • I don’t think you understand I can’t even log in to my telstra cos it requires 2FA to the new number that’s not working

        • I couldn’t log into my Telstra app or jbhi fi app, I had to just do live chat and give them my number

    • +1

Maybe it's because it's late, but i can't make any sense of what you wrote.. maybe someone can translate, so when it comes to cancelling i can avoid it happening to me

  • Aldi closed today and tomorrow - what’s next best $5 sim

  • Just did this today, should the new service also show up in my Telstra app? I only see it in the JB app but other commenters seem to have better luck getting the $99 refunded via Telstra.

    • Yes, it should show in the app

      • I also have mine just showing up in JB Hi Fi website, not the My Telstra app. Would like to try the cancellation via Telstra to hopefully get $99 back. Anyone managed to fix this?

        • Ah I realised you can just go via the web chat on the website rather than the app. Unfortunately agent didn’t want to refund the $99, might try again tomorrow

  • Is this deal still available? I'm planning to try my luck tomorrow. I currently hold a student visa with around 1.5 years remaining. Has anyone here successfully done this as a non-citizen or on a temporary visa? Would love to hear your experience!

    • On a little pamphlet at JBHIfi it said 21/4

    • JB staff at Bourke St said it’s on till 23rd

  • Argh I sat out on the Samsung S25 pre-order deal as wouldn't be able to claim TRS, and now that I'm overseas this and the Google Pixel deal comes around! 🤦‍♂️

Hopefully another similar deal comes around closer to EOFY as just finished a 2-year contract with Optus so time to churn!

  • +5

There is too much b*tchin and not enough buying. Unless you are a multi-millionaire in this economy, stop mentioning morality and legality lol, Thanks, OP!

  • Anyone know if this works with a 7 day optus trial? Will go and try it today to see.

    • Same. Planning to go today. My Optus trial has been active for 3 days, so fingers crossed.

    • +3

Can confirm this works. Had no issues yesterday.

    • my optus trial number didn’t work, but I activated it same day. was able to receive other calls new texts though. ymmv

    • Just done it. Worked for me. Number was activated 3 days ago.

  • So when you say it's $1400 off do you get it discounted straightaway or you get $1400 in JB gift card. What is the upfront payment.

    • Discount applied on the purchase in store

  • Just wondering what does the invoice show for the purchase of the iPhone? Does it list the full price with partly/all paid for with the gift card? or does it show the value as $0.

    • $1397.
$1397 offset by online gift card.

  • The deal says expiring 21/Apr. Does that mean we need to 'Cancel' the connection also by 21/Apr or can it be within 1st month?

    • +1

Just need to sign up by today to get the deal

  • anyone who has received the invoice from Telstra, what are the payment options? any way to pay in person (Post Billpay, Telstra in store etc)?

  • for those who have an amaex and have payed with it… outright

    Smartphone front screen cover

Covering up to $500 for repairs if you break your front screen when you pay for your phone outright or monthly bill with your American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card

A 10% excess applies to the claimed amount6

  • also used chat with telstra to get a refund on the 99 and was told this info

You need to make the payment of $766.59 and the refund of $99 will be made to your payment method and it will be refunded to you in 3 to 5 business days.

  • -3

1 year of $99/month almost pay up for the iphone 16 already…so you pay 1200-1300 $$$ for 2 year of calling and SMS ect…way to expensive.

    • +1

      whoosh

    • tell us you don’t read

  • I couldn't get the $99 refunded even though I had a Telstra account/ID and active services.

    • +1

Tried again with another agent and it was a success!

  • Tried cancelling via Telstra live chat and the agent told me without prompting that they can’t refund the $99. May as well use the plan for the rest of the month then cancel it.

    • If you have Telstra account/ID with active services, then you might have a chance. Try another agent.

    • I’ve been told it’s not possible because the initial payment is still pending. I’m going to try again after the payment has cleared.

    • Finally worked for me, through JB chat. They said they had to wait until the initial payment cleared. Refunded $99 and invoice full ETC $800.

  • I cancelled my service. I could see on the JB app there was an amount of $99 which was to come out on a date that corresponds with the payment of my Telstra account. Once I cancelled the service that $99 amount disappeared and was issued with a notice to pay $799.92 due 15 days from today which will come out via direct debit or you can pay it sooner by going to payments.

  • So cancelling the plan within the first month only nets you (1400-865)= $535. Nobody is continuing the plan so its not $1400 discount

    • It is a $1400 discount since it was meant to be part of the plan if people were to continue

Of course this is OzBargain and no one would unless your work pays for it

  • so when we cancel the JB plan, how do we port the number to the next prepaid sim?

    • +1

You don’t cancel. You just port out instead

      • so port out to prepaid sim, then call telstra for the cancellation?

        • +1

Don’t need to call, since porting out is essentially terminating your current plan

  • +3

Thanks, managed to get one for my Wife, Wifes Boyfriend and me

For anyone who got confused on what this deal works for higher end phones
    - buy a cheap SIM card (like optus or lebara or similar.. say $5) and ensure you activate it. Ensure you can recieve text messages and have a backup phone (or dual sim) which you need to take inside the store
    - Purchase iphone 16 prox max 256GB ($2147) from JB Hifi and activate it
    - You enroll for $99 per month connection with JB HiFi - Telstra partnership
    - This will setup online account with Telstra
    - Port your number to this new phone connection which you do instore
    - Go to payment instore and then the $1400 is redeemed against the $2147 (original price). So at JB HiFI shop you pay => $747 in net amount
    - Return back home and take your time. You don't have to be in hurry and can do cancellation within first month (as they might take $99 anyway)
    - Chat to CS using the above logging in and mobile sim card inserted (in a spare phone if possible)
    - Cancel the connection and they will charge you approx $766-$800 for cancellation charges + $99 the first month payment in my case

    So
    => 766+99 => $865 (cancellation fees)
    => $747 for iPhone 16 prox max 256GB instore
    => $5 sim card

    Total => $747 + $865 + $5 => $1617

    Fair deal i would say

    • hmm nice! Wonder if they allow us to return it for the full GC value. Just bought a 16 pro max last week at full retail so dont need another one…but the $1617 is too juicy a price….

  • Telstra chat don't want to refund the $99. Have people had better luck with JB chat?

    • +1

I’ve been told by JB chat it’s not possible because the initial payment is still pending. I’m going to try again after the payment has cleared.

    • Finally worked for me, through JB chat. They said they had to wait until the initial payment cleared. Refunded $99 and invoice full ETC $800.

      • Same scenario here except it hasn't appeared in my bank and i already removed the payment method from the app.. hopefully it wasn't too soon lol.

  • Don’t forget pride match with Costco

  • The JB page says for the $99 plan u get a $1100 voucher? Not $1400? How do you get $1400 on other models if not getting the 16 base model.

    • It’s on the iPhone 16 product landing page of each model…

  • +4

The jb hifi guy in Brisbane gave me $100 off the iphone pro, gave me iphone pro 256gb for $1899 less the $1400 credit. Not a bad deal.

    • Nice. I'll try a different JB for my other future purchases, the phone guy at my local didn't even want to price match officeworks for $20 less.

  • So, do I need to wait till the plan is active in the Services section of the "My Telstra" app before I cancel?

  • I'd love to hear from any long-time Android users who have grabbed this deal - how they are finding this Iphone 16 to be?

    • +1

The real pain difference you may find that there is 'no fingerprint' auth like in Android.. but only faceID. Apart from that, Iphone hardware is top notch quality (especially camera)

  • This deal finish today? Or finish in 2 days?

    • The assistant told me it ends today.

    • It’s ends today i had a look at the display/sticky note and it said ends today
