Ok just signed up two with two new Aldi for pro max

So do I hop on live chat now and how do I say I want the $99 first month waived?

Also is it normal to not see it in my Telstra app or do I need to do the live chat from that jbhifi mobile web page

    • +4

i did that today ..spoke to live chat telstra.. you need to cancel the contract first and they will issue the payout of contract amount… then if you payed the 99 be CC you need to wait 72 hours before you can get it waived… They wont credit back until you cancel the actual contract.

      that's my experience.

      • Thanks so is that what they said that it needs to be paid before it’s waived? Because my 2 x $99 is due around close to end of May

  • was trying to sign up for a plan and filled in all the required information, but my application was rejected. I’ve never missed a payment or had any outstanding bills, so I have no idea why this happened. Even the staff couldn’t explain the reason, anybody like me?

  • unsure if anyone has mentioend this yet but cancelling the plan and then trying to port to boost is an absoulte nightmare. I had a prepaid 12 month boost sim and they said I had to wait 24-48 hours for the payment of the cancellation to clear before they could transfer it over. which meant I would be without a number for that long since they had already cancelled my contract. then had to get a $2 sim so they could use that as an intermediary. all worked out in the end but a bit of a much around. in hindsight i should have just used a $2 sim from a non-telstra non-boost company. instead of my real number.

    • In future you should only try to port an active number.

Cancelling first and then trying to port is always going to be a nightmare. A port will cancel the service for you, so porting out is the only step you needed to take.

      • Yeah so that's what I tried to do. But because it was porting from Telstra to boost. The boost rep said he couldn't straight port it because they were both Telstra. Said he had to cancel the contract then restart me on boost. Hence the issues.

  • Speaking to Telstra Chat now, they're saying it's effectively impossible for them to process a credit of the $99 first month, "as much as we want to we have no option to on new billing system we have, Would you like to proceed?" and "it has been paid on your jb hifi sim once we process the cancellation the payment made will not be credited as well".

Should I just reject this agent and try again w/ someone else?

    • +1

yep try again with another rep

    • Finally worked for me, through JB chat. They said they had to wait until the initial payment cleared. Refunded $99 and invoice full ETC $800.

  • I made two orders today and oddly I only have one $99 pending charge is that how others with more than one order happen to?

    • It is only one as the first one was setup already. Once you have a plan the other numbers that you port in does not require $99 first month payment

      • Ah sweet so I just need to get $99 refunded then only, cheers will hit them up in a day or two the

  • -3

i purchased iphone 16 for $0 iPhone 16 128gb ended today and paid $99 for the telstra plan and ported out $5 Aldi and got invoice $766.59 for early terrnination fees to be paid by 6th may. should i pay now orlater? i am still trying to get my refund of $99 but not success yet. i was warned by the agent in JBHIFI that if i cancel my credit rating will be affected which concerns me?

    • +2

That's just salesperson talk. Did she / he tell you having a $99 monthly plan also affects your credit rating since it is considered a line of credit that requires monthly repayments?

Most JB staff and Telstra CSRs know exactly what OZBers are doing. Most JB staff tend to "remind" people about the termination fee cap of $800 without people asking.

  • -3

when i wanted to refund my $99 the reply was "no, you signed for a contract through JB Hifi and not with Telstra. I'm afraid but we can only cancel your service as you requested but we don't have a way to override your contract with JB hifi. You can try to contact JB hifi support if you need to further discuss your contract with them. so should we contact the JBHIFI instead of telstra for refund?

  • -2

Reply from telstra "I know that you would like to request for a refund, and we've been receiving this scenario for the past couple of months. As much as I would love to provide you a refund, the charge is valid especially that it's in the contract that JB hifi provided. As of the moment, Telstra is currently investigating this scenario especially that the plans have a contract and a gift card at the same time. In the meantime, do you have any other enquiry apart from this?

    • +31

I know people may neg my comment but you all should really stop asking for the $99 to be refunded.

It is a really good deal as is, and it raises more red flag with Telstra if people keep persisting on getting the $99 refunded. The contract that you all have taken up clearly said $99 is paid upfront and is already part of the pro rata for the ETC

Even when I sign up to these plans, I don’t even ask for the first month to be refunded as it is something I consider it as “I’ve gotten a good deal, I shouldn’t be asking for more back”

If we keep doing this, there will not be any good deals in the future if what your rep has said is true

      • Yeah, I asked for a refund myself (didn't push for it) and Telstra rep was happy to oblige. But I think what you're saying makes sense - we won't be asking for the $99 back next time round. Also, if everyone only used it once rather than the maximum 3 times that would probably help as well. Alas, tragedy of the commons

        • +7

It is just that I have seen a lot of greed on OzBargain. Not only on this deal (like the comment that I replied to where it sounded like they were persisting for the $99 to be refunded, and a couple of others above suggesting to try a different rep), but also on price error deals where they get more than what they need.

      • +6

100% agree - but some people won't listen.

Unfortunately every loophole gets closed due to over-sharing and the fact some people go too far and ruin it for everyone.

I'm sure this one is on it's last legs too because of this.

    • +3

Yeah these people are ruining it, everytime. Next time the minimum charge will get increased

  • I did purchase 16 plus today. phone is still to be picked up because the colour I like is not available but Telstra said they cannot give $99 refund

  • You guys are mental just port out after first month and the charge will be auto generated, like any other time

    • +2

Exactly, I’m sure the average OzBargainers are earning a lot, and what is $99 to them. It’s barely anything

  • +1

just checkig the jb site, is it now $1300 for the next couple of days?

    • Gift card is now $1300 off any iPhone

      • Pixel deal still available for those not fussed about having iPhone?

  • +1

Seems like they’ve extended the deal by 2 days but reduced the gift card to $1300. Still a good deal it seems

    • +2

Might be possible to price match Costco ($1350) and use a welcome voucher and gift cards to narrow the difference. But I reckon everyone who wanted this deal has their phone by now. I resisted but it was tough!!

  • +4

We purchased two i-Phone 16 Pros yesterday, and then cancelled via JB Hi-Fi chat this morning. Their agent advised the termination charge would be $766.59 for each service - as expected per many previous comments and calculations in this string.
However, when the actual Telstra invoices were emailed a few minutes later, the cancellation charge on one invoice was as expected at $766.59, but on the other invoice they charged a cancellation fee of $799.92.
I spoke further with JB Hi-FI live chat, and they advised that only 1 x $99 first month charge gets processed to your credit card, regardless of whether you have 1 or more services. So in my case, the total charges on one service were $99 + $766.59 = $865.59. For the second cancelled service, the total charges were $0 + $799.92 = $799.92 (effectively the $800 gift card "pro-rated" for the fraction of a day). Go figure.

  • Still tempting to do this deal even with the $100 reduction.

    • I'm wondering if they updated the terms as well. Kinda dangerous to do if they've updated the terms and you can't cancel without being charged the whole voucher amount.

      • +1

You can always ask a copy of the contract before signing it, which will state how much the ETC will be

        • The ETC will always say it's prorated against the remaining term. But it's more of the $800 cap is a different t&c that supercedes the Telstra t&c.

        • Hey @BargainsGrabber, if I remember correctly, I guess you faced “unable to process order” sort of error in the past while signing up to such deal, how did you resolve it and was it caused due to having signed up to multiple plans?

          • @Shahw: Hey mate,
I’ve only faced the unable to process order error when buying the Boost SIM
The only error that I faced for the Telstra x JB deal was when my activation took one week as I was the first few who signed up since they wanted confirmation if the workaround was still valid at that time

Sorry - Wasn’t sure which error you were referring to

            • @BargainsGrabber: @BargainsGrabber, yeah I was referring to the Telstra JB deal error because I faced that error while placing the order yesterday. I’m not sure if it was related to activation though, as the order was not placed due to an error something like “unable to process order”…

              Thanks for the reply mate.

  • +2

    Hey Guys,

Jb Hi-Fi still honoured the 1400$ deal today and probably will for the next couple days. I asked the sales agent if they could match it and they confirmed. But looks like the Telstra party is over guys. They will not cancel the $99 charge.

    All the best.

    • Which store was it mate

      • +1

        Melbourne Elizabeth st one.

Not sure of the downvote 🤷‍♂️

  • What’s the best way to sign up to this if I currently have active services with boost? Looking for myself and the mrs.

    • +1

Buy a $2 sim and use that for the deal. Don't use your boost. Then when you have the phone just transfer your boost sim to it.

      • 2nd this. You will loose your number if you don't port it out, it's a pain just get another Sim.

  • Does this effect credit score?

    • as long as you pay out all the fees then i don't see how it would impact your credit rating.
credit score would normally be impacted when you have outstanding amount unpaid and/or delayed payment.

      • This is true but if you're applying for multiple credit cards to churn and mobile phone deals in a short time period, then it will impact your credit score.

  • +6

Nice deal thanks OP! Got my new ip16 pro max still unbox and managed to maximise the saving with price matched costco, 10% off gift card for paying the remaining cost, waved the $99 fee on jb hifi mobile app and last but not least, 9.09% TRS refunded!!! Happy days😊

    • +1

Well done, that's a good outcome for pro max!

    • What was the final cost ?

    • -1

Hopefully you get pinged on your way back into Australia champion

      • +2

What is the charge? Buying an iPhone? An authentic Chinese iPhone?

      • Nah I’m gonna swap with my sister’s 16 promax when seeing her overseas. I unwaveringly abide by the rule of law

    • +1

damnn….this guy knows how to ozbargain

    • -1

How did you waive the $99 fee with jb app?

      • -2

        just let it go, mate

        • +1

If people are going to boast about having the $99 waived others are naturally going to want it too. We all want to be treated the same.

          • -1

@unity1: this is why I am not going to post the discount I got because everyone would want the same thing

      • Be nice, be nice and got lucky:)

    • What is TRS?

    • +2

People like you should be permabanned

      • Its just a question, why the so much hate..
Anyway, back to my question.. Yes i did manage to return the Iphone 16 Pro 128gb (unopened) i bought from this deal, and exchanged it for 256gb model a week later (26th April) paying the difference of $180 with a gift card (1977 - 1797). And yesterday JB HIFI dropped the price by $200 across all iphone 16 series (16 Pro 256gb $1777) so I went in-store today and they just refunded me $200 back (price guarantee). In total this is how much iphone 16 Pro 256gb cost me outright.

Jb Hi Fi Plan: - $99
        ETC: - $766
        Gift card: -$397
        Gift card 2: -180
        Cashback on GC: +$17
        PG refund: +$200
        TRS claim: +$161

Total out of pocket cost for 16 Pro 256gb was $1064 (after claiming TRS).

    • Locked to Telstra

@BargainsGrabber - Late post but Thank you so much for posting this deal. Missed iPhone 15 and S25 but I managed to get an Iphone 16 128GB. Crazy deal to be able to get it for $644.68 (5+99+766.59-99-126.91)

Thank you everyone for clearly explaining the process 🙏🏻

    • How did you get an additional $126.91 discount? Was it TRS?

      • Hmm even with TRS should be about $750?

        • $99 refund wasn’t included in your link

    • Adding 99 and then subtracting it? And what is 126.91?

    • What is TRS?

      • -1

You realise googling those exact words gives you the answer?

  • $5 Aldi Sim
$99 in store to sign up
    $766.59 to cancel the plan
    $99 was refunded
    $126.91 is TRS ($1396/11)

  • +5

Was able to sign up to this, jb are still offering the $1400 credit.

The store was out of stock for the iPhone 16 256gb, the jb hifi guy in Miranda gave me $200 off the iphone pro 256gb for $1777 less the $1400 credit. Not a bad deal.

Jumped on chat & cancelled, $766.59 cancellation cost.

  • 321 votes and 10 pages of discussions… showing iPhone users don't usually have a good offer. While Pixel and Galaxy users have it every month.

  • Want to do this today but can Aldi sims activate on Sunday?

    • I just did it and it worked so yes!

      • Do you just initiate the port and wait the voucher for tomorrow or were you able to get the voucher today?

Planning to do it today, just needed some clarity.

        Thanks!

        • Did everything today

          • @Maknaedori: How long did it take for you to activate?

            • +1

@Batman69: The SIM activated within 10 minutes max and the process of purchasing in store took up to 1 hour total.
