D-Link DIR-865L Cloud Gigabit Router $129 at DickSmith

2911

User edit 0740 9/5/13: Price adjusted. Now $129 ($29 after cashback).

Edit 1100 10/5/13: Cashback exclusion list now includes DSE. Purchase at your own risk.

Edit: Here is the reply from D-Link via email: "This new Ts and Cs only applicable for any purchases from 10/5 onward".

Edit: Here is a clearer cut-off point, straight from their again-updated terms and conditions: "Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, Dick Smith, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers. DIR-865L purchases from Dick Smith after 10/5/2013 10am AEST will not be eligible for this offer (previous purchases before 10/5/2013 10am AEST will be honoured)."

So that is it. The deal technically expire now since they no longer offer cashback for purchase from dicksmith. HOWEVER, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PRICEMATCH AT JBHIFI OR HARVEY NORMAN, IF YOU CAN FIND STOCK AT DICKSMITH

Basically, the same deal at Dicksmith at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101972 but D-Link just have their new cashback promotion where they give $100 Cashback to purchases at ANY AUSTRALIAN STORES (except Officeworks).
I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers.
  • You must print out the final step of this on-line redemption form, signed and attached the copy of proof of purchase before posting it to D-Link. Unsigned form will be rejected.
  • All claims must be received by D-Link no later than promotion cut-off date.
  • Please allow up to 60 days to receive your cashback or bonus product on offer.
  • This promotion is VOID where prohibited or restricted by law.
  • D-Link will not be held responsible for any destroyed, misdirected, stolen, postage due or delayed mail.

there is an ebay seller saying "…bought in error…" with the INTENTION. Crap!

well, that's the bargain you can get for $99 shipped and the bought-in-error fellow can get his profit.

You may also want to ask for his receipt for the product warranty.

      oh…here is the link —> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/D-Link-DIR-865L-Wireless-Wi-fi-AC…

  • I need a wireless router too, anyone wants to sell for a reasonable price, please let me know.

  • I have a click and collect on hold at Marion, SA, which neither I nor my wife will be able to get to tomorrow any more. It's confirmed by email and SMS, but I have not called to confirm it is being held. I have actually been looking for a cheap WiFi router to install at my grandaprent's place who have recently gotten an iPad (which is somewhat useless without WiFi!). Since I can't get to it, if anyone is near Marion and genuinely wants to KEEP this router, then PM me and I'll send you the click and collect details. Of course, if someone wants to pick it up and bring it to me in the city, even better, but I'm not going to push my luck that far!

    • Someone cancelled on my wife, so she was able to go and pick it up. Sorry guys.

  • Anyone want to get rid of theirs. I actually want the router not the cash back. Anyone willing to give/sell theirs?
Of course I won't be paying the gumtree prices (sorry)

    • You are better off paying the Gumtree prices than the price JB & HN are charging

      • +4

You are probably right. But then I don't want to encourage Brodenism

    • I am going to try match it officeworks tomorrow … still better than $99 on Ebay. of couple of hundred on Gumtree.

      • +1

You cannot get the D-Link rebate if you buy it from Officeworks, just keep that in mind.

  • +15

Pretty annoying seeing these pop up on e-bay and gumtree when I genuinely would use it.

OzBargain has become too popular with common folk now who are in it to broden it.

I was lucky enough to score one from my local DSE and will be setting it up this weekend.

Here is one for $1.00 negotiable lol!

      http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/camden-park/other-computers-s…

    • Don't know why you wouldn't want the router at this price. Future proof da shite out of your setup

    • +3

Yeah me too, when I got more than one of anything from ozbargain, it is always for friends and family and never intend to resell it. I mean, what is the purpose of others sharing it for you when you are going to use it for profit against others. If everyone is like it, then people wont bother sharing anymore, they would simply purchase and resell for profit. If it was true, then there would never be ozbargain in the first place. Stop being selfish and think of others.

Disclosure, I have got three of them, one is for me, one is for my parents and one is for my girlfriend's family. NONE was for ebay and gumtree.

      • +1

And you keep all the $46 profit without sharing? ^_^

    • +3

I bought 1 unit, either to upgrade my current router or to give away to someone who needs it. It didn't even occur to me that I could buy multiple units and profit until I was driving home, and even then I was: "meh, I'm too honest for that, I hope someone else can score a bargain too!"

  • This is sold out at dicksmith in my area, where else can i get it under $100 and be able to claim?

  • I'm also looking at buying this somewhere.. Might try out JB Hifi tomorrow although I feel like I'm quite late.
Or I wonder if I'll have any joy with Harvey Norman..

And I do want to use this myself because the DIR-825 I bought, I can't get it to work. Once I get the DIR-825 working I'll make it my extender, and this DIR865L will be my main.

  • Router is $129, so how is there profit???

    • They just put the price up, it was $84.50, still a great price though with the cashback offer.

      • +1

pretty much useless to put the price up as their is no stock available nearly anywhere

        • +1

Maybe this is a sign that they will get more in? e.g. that this isn't a clearance item.

Lol, Ozbargain must have caused a havoc at Dick smith yesterday. Went in store to pick up mine, and they said they had like 50 calls asking about the same item.

        • May be like the Creative T3 speaker now they have stock almost everywhere.

      • wow …. they up the price but no stock what is the point?

  • Didn't make a screenshot of the $84.50 @ Dicksmith yesterday. Anyone has the screenshot?

    • +9

      http://imgur.com/lZVybGZ

Still had my window open from yesterday.

      • Time to attempt price matches elsewhere? Really thinking of where and how to do it though…

        • Try hardly normal! I got my price match yesterday. But had to pay full at first and got refund the difference later. They did refund me today. I was a bit skeptical before. But I set the chat record being sent to my email, so that I had the prove of the conversation. (they cant provide the reference number for the price match online. )

      • Thank you chuns :D

        • You're welcome :).

  • Haha I was thinking of picking one up to fix the signal at the back of the house. Not anymore :(

I'll just wait until I manage to get another second hand router

  • Don't trust the "low stock" status on DSE's website. They don't have any stock but still the website is saying low stock.

    • +1

But not always I saw that before they said low stock but they have 2-3 there.

  • dw.. found my answer

  • I'm still tempted to get one but there's no stock in Brisbane :(

  • I just picked mine up (Click & Collect) for $84.50

Now to get the redemption going

    • How lucky you are…

    • Congratulation. You are very lucky!

    • Lucky, may I know which DSE is that? I did the Click and Collect too, but alas, 1/2 hour later, DSE staff rang me up and said that there weren't anymore stock..

  • Did anyone try to do price match in JB HIFI?

    • I tried over at Home Hub Hills in Castle Hill. No go. Harvey Norman also a no go. Called DSE Windsor which was showing low stock yesterday but was told it must have been stolen because he couldn't find it lol.

      • stolen by themselves LOL

      • My store had an alarm tag on it, sooooo….

  • +2

Yet again DSE wastes my time. Guy tells me 'yep, we got one' yesterday so i give him my name and say do you want my number(thinking when you cant find it you can call me so i dont waste my time) he says nope, just come in. so i do and then get told 'its grown legs and walked out the door' stupid store and stupid staff.
their stock takes must be terrible with their system setup and crap staff

  • Mount Gambier 5290 has stock.

  • Just been sent a Confirmation for my Click and Collect order for this! (and called to make sure it wasn't a mistake!)! Looks like dick Smith has come through for me!! :D

There's probably a chance that its a returned item, but even without the cashback its a good deal!!

    • Picked my router up a few hours ago! Woooooooo!

  • So… I made a silly mistake and when I submitted my cashback online… I typed in the wrong store.

Anyone know if that will be a problem?

    I'm a Perthy, typed in CBD/Perth instead of Maddington/Perth…
    Receipt is from Maddington.

Thinking of just leaving it as is, and hope it goes through okay… :(

    • Can you resubmit it? Or give them a call!

      • Can't resubmit, but just wondering if other people here have still received cashback rewards in a similar situation.

  • Harvey Norman Chadstone agreed to price match to $84 on a back-order, expected stock in 2 weeks. Hopefully it'll come in time.

    • Can you buy an extra one for me when you're there for that price :P ? It's too late for me to negotiate it down to $84 now. I live near chaddy too, will pay you $5 :D

  • Got it, now how do they give us the cash back? I didn't enter account details, do they send a cheque?

    • you have to print out the final page, sign it, attach a copy of the receipt and mail it in. They will mail you back a cheque if it's like my last d-link cashback.

      • yes its a check. called them and confirmed yesterday

        • +7

it's spelt "cheque" in this country, you can check if you want…:p

  • i ordered online this morning before the price rise.

Got an email as well as an SMS that it is ready for pickup. Went to the store in the evening and was told that there is no stock.

Do these guys know what is going on. DSE looks like a bunch of non professionals trying to run a company.

    • DSE looks like a bunch of non professionals trying to run a company.

You'll only find 'Professionals" here on ozbargain

  • Tried to pricematch at jbhifi today. Was told it was way to under cost and they refused to honour it even though I provided jbhifi receipt uploaded from here and prtscn from the dse website. :(

    • Same thing has happened to me in the past with both JB and Harvery Norman (even after providing proof).. I think it really depends on the staff member you get or perhaps store-specific policies? I was lucky enough to get JB to price match this deal but wasn't really expecting to!

  • Reserved one for $129 at DSE Holly Plaza but it's a returned unit from yesterday. Is there a risk of the rebate already been claimed? How to check?

    • How can you know it's a return unit? Is it open box?

      • The dse store told me it was a return that was purchased yesterday for $84.5 but return it because they bought the wrong router.

    • +3

Agreed with unity1 had to say down below. My only tip for you is too give D-link and a call and get them to cancel the request for the promotional Cashback for the specific serial number as the previous person no longer has the router and that you want to request for claim. See what they have to say, there's no harm in trying. Honestly that is truly dodgy and there's probably a high chance the person is reading this comment at the moment.

  • Dangerous. Don't touch it if your want to claim. $15 and a free router wasn't enough for the person who returned that. They want to make $100 profit. Quite simply the first claim will be accepted, providing it has been lodged. Yours will be rejected based on the fact that 1 claim has been made using that particular serial number.

    • +2

If it's true, the person doing it is very dodgy!

    • +1

I just filled out the 5 steps for the cashback for mine (As my Click and Confirm was confirmed today, when I placed the order yesterday, so I figured it had probably been returned!). I then tried to see if I could re-use my code, but it wouldn't let me as its 'already been used'!

So if your code works on step one, you can be pretty sure that your code hasn't been used before by somebody else!!

      • Dicksmith doesn't usually allow people to return items due to change of mind. Only time they allow return is if it is broken.

        • They used to, and people used to take advantage of it. TV sales would increase before a big game, followed by lots of returns after the game. No wonder they changed the policy in 2011.

  • But then again, if it comes down to verifying the individual entries at least you have the physical proof.

If someone had infact purchased this, claimed and then returned this, it would be an act worse than Brodening.

  • Has anyone used the mydlink.com cloud service? Theres this creepy feature that lets you view websites that have been visited by devices connected to the router..

  • Awesome deal, thanks O.P. Managed to get JB Hifi Munno Para to price match as Renmark had some in stock. Pretty decent router especially for the price.

Replaced my DIR-685 with it and using the old router as a repeater so i finally have a decent connection at the other end of the house. The range of the 865 is better than the 685, but only slightly.

Overall I am quite happy with it and i'm sure i will be even more so once devices start using 802.11ac. Worth the $84.50 paid even if D-link rejects the cashback claim.

    • Why would they reject it?

  • +2

Hi all - thought I'd add my 2 cents here as well.

I emailed a few JB's and Harvey Norman about price matching Dick Smith at $129. Got a quick response from JB Fountain Gate approving the price match (yay!). Original price was $297. Picked one up after work yesterday, there were about 2-3 units left if anyone is interested (one looked as if it had been opened though). Perhaps take a print out of the Dick Smith deal just in case, I didn't need to show it but I guess it depends on the staff member you get.

Good luck to anyone still searching, and thanks OP!!

    • Thanks for the post as it really helped me out.

Just got a price match at Harvey Norman Maribyrnong for $129 by telling them that Cranbourne Dick Smith (3805) still had stock. They still had 2 of the routers on the shelves so get in quick if you're still after one.

Attached receipt below in case it might help someone out.

      http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/49127/16301/cci10052013…

      • You're welcome, glad you managed to score one!

  • +2

Just to let everyone know, Dick Smith have been included in the exclusion list on the D-Link Cash Back offer: http://www.dlink.com.au/productregistration/redemption.aspx?…

    • Bastards

      • damn them for not wanting to give away free money and routers!

        • They should be happy. The software on the Dlink routers I've owned is buggy as a firetruck.

Okay I'll elaborate. It works fine and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, it will stop working (no matter what you do!). The only fix is to do a factory reset.

These random events have never occured on Linksys, AVM & Netgear devices I've owned.

    • This is gonna get messy…

      • Hopefully they'll honour the ones purchased before today. The worrying part is

7.D-Link reserves the right to change or terminate this offer at any time without prior notice. All decisions made by D-Link are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

    • Well this will be interesting…

    • Yes, very interesting. My claim form does not have dicksmith on it….let's see what they do…

    • Oh boy, this is going to be a fiasco of epic proportions. Feel sorry for you D-Link PR guy.

    • +1

I just called D-Link head office in Sydney. I was informed that if you have printed out the redemption form before the DSE exclusion was added, they will honour the claim.

I guess they would be in serious hot water with Consumer Affairs if they tried to disallow these claims. It's still somewhat dodgy to exclude purchases prior to the change if the claim form hasn't yet been printed and could be worth a complaint submission.

There was a serious security issue with their website earlier this week. It was possible to view other completed claim forms (including name, address and phone number details) by simply changing the index number at the end of the URL for a completed claim. I called to inform them of this and it's now been fixed.

  • this is going to get funny

i have my forms all printed out ready to send and yet… could get rejected

problem is its a bit "bait n switch" to suddenly change the terms and conditions like this

even if you do send the forms registered mail it doesnt mean squat because [email protected] who signs for it can well say… "oh look not valid"

i suppose if you had a printed copy of their T&C at the time it may help your case… but even then

    • Unfortunately the terms and conditions state that they can change the terms and conditions at any time without prior notice…

    • +1

Here's the CACHED version from google of that page from the 8th of May without the addition of DS

    • who is john wang and what does he do?

    • +1

dude, your receipt says you purchased before 10 May so it's all good
