D-Link DIR-865L Cloud Gigabit Router $129 at DickSmith

2911

User edit 0740 9/5/13: Price adjusted. Now $129 ($29 after cashback).

Edit 1100 10/5/13: Cashback exclusion list now includes DSE. Purchase at your own risk.

Edit: Here is the reply from D-Link via email: "This new Ts and Cs only applicable for any purchases from 10/5 onward".

Edit: Here is a clearer cut-off point, straight from their again-updated terms and conditions: "Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, Dick Smith, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers. DIR-865L purchases from Dick Smith after 10/5/2013 10am AEST will not be eligible for this offer (previous purchases before 10/5/2013 10am AEST will be honoured)."

So that is it. The deal technically expire now since they no longer offer cashback for purchase from dicksmith. HOWEVER, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PRICEMATCH AT JBHIFI OR HARVEY NORMAN, IF YOU CAN FIND STOCK AT DICKSMITH

Basically, the same deal at Dicksmith at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101972 but D-Link just have their new cashback promotion where they give $100 Cashback to purchases at ANY AUSTRALIAN STORES (except Officeworks).
I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers.

Nice find but not much stock available around Sydney.

I am wondering why except OW.

    • You can always pricematch with JB Hifi. I think because OW have a very relaxed return policy, so they (either OW or D-Link or both) may be afraid that people might abuse it and have it returned after claiming cashback. Other reason could be that due to that very relaxed policy, OW might bargain to hard with D-Link for the price and hence, it is not profitable for D-Link to give cashback for purchases at OW

Went to Dick Smith George St store (NSW), the guy said that only Warringah Mall and Penrith have stock left.

  • If I checked Ozbargain any later I would've missed it! Phew, went so quick.

  • +14

Still not going to make me buy/use dlink

    • I will just get it just for $15.50.

      • +8

Wanted that $15.50 more than I wanted the router

    • I figure, if I get the rebate who cares if it's any good, it'll still be profitable!

I do actually want a better wifi router anyway though.

    • I will use mine as a means for printing wireless with my wired printer

    • LOL what he said… I have a D-Link P O S ….drops my settings every couple of weeks and requires a full reconfig. So rubbish! Am awaiting release of the Almond+ and reviews to see if they are going to be good.

  • Has anyone been successful getting a cashback from DLINK before?

    • +1

should not be any problem as long as you stick with their terms and conditions. I have seen one successfully claiming a cashback with D-Link here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101200#comment-1363459

    • +1

Yep - got a free E1500 last year after cashback.

      • +2

        Isn't that Linksys?

        • Lol, yep, sorry.
Got a rebate for the DIR-600 before that.
Knew there was one in there…

I got mine at Fountain Gate (VIC). The lady said she had 20 calls today regarding the router, she didn't know what all the fuss was about :)

        • Should have told her to register an oz bargain account :)

Got last one in my local store, still a few in 5000 and around.

  • got the last one in brandon park, vic. awesome!

  • +1

sweet last one at broadway, syd.

why is it so much cheaper than other retailers?
over 200 on static ice http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=DIR+865L&sp…

    • damn, i should've checked ozbargain earlier. none in 2000 area.

  • Thanks OP for posting, nothing to lose.

Placed an order for one at Winston Hills (NSW).

Seven Hills and Fairfield (NSW) have stock according to DSE's website!

  • I am using ADSL2+ in that case I have to set my modem/router to bridge mode and use this as a router.

Can I just set this as a WiFi Access Point?

    • +1

yes, should not be a problem, there actually is a guide in the manual for you to follow. Basically, you just have to set your IP address of the router acording to the main one, i.e: if your current modem router is 192.168.0.1, then set the D-Link IP address to 192.168.0.X (X can be any number) and disable the DHCP server on the D-Link.

      • +1

192.168.0.X (X can be any number) - except "1" for obvious reasons

        • Well.. to be technical, you won't be able to use
          192.168.0.0
          192.168.0.1
          192.168.0.255

        • you won't be able to use >255 too :P

      • +1

I found that disable DHCP, Firewall, etc. not 100% the same as to set it a WiFi Access Point.

That is why some router have the option to change it to an access point.

    • +1

You would be best off putting your modem into pridge mode so that all the cloud features are available from the DIR-865L, along with its fairly advanced firewalling.

  • Awesome, needed a wireless router, about to head out and get one!

  • FYI, call around, especially the Low Stock ones.
Found some at a low stock place.

Got the last ones from Ringwood VIC.

  • Cannot find any stock near me in Vic (northern)

  • HEY OP, YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • Plenty of stock in WA (Click & Collect). Will pickup in CBD

    • Really? I just tried 5 minutes ago and it was showing out of stock in all stores in WA?

      • See time of my post…Gone in 20 minutes!

    • Me too…none left in WA.

      • Perth CBD cancelled my order, telling me I'm the 9th to reserve with only 8 in stock…Calling Innaloo - missed again. No router and $15 I suppose

        • Frack, serious!? NOOOOOOOO

        • Did you get the confirmation email downero?? or they just called you up?
I got the email ( http://i.imgur.com/twITKa0.png ) but am not sure now if that's gonna be a guarantee..

        • Email to confirm reservation. There's supposed to be another email telling you can pick up the item but I got a phone call instead

        • Just picked mine up from Perth cbd. There were ~7 left in the reserve cupboard. No floor stock left though

  • How reliable is Dick Smiths click and collect system?

I have had very little luck using the Harvey Norman and Supercheap Auto collect in store systems with orders being mixed up or there being no stock when I arrive.

    • +1

Best to phone them. Some stores are lazy and don't put the stock aside.

      • Yeah - I tried to ringing but nobody picked up. Oh well …

Edit @ 11:33 - Just got the sms confirming my order. The system works! (hopefully there is something for me to collect when I get there)

  • This will offset the $15 purchase of the Harvey Norman D-Link Router a couple of months back - Haven't used said item, no time to tinker with it

Ordered one from Adelaide (5000) store :-). Thanks, OP!

    • Lucky you! Rang 3 stores around Adelaide with no success :-(

  • No joke, actually bought one of these yesterday from DSE. Luckily the purchase period is after 6/5/13.

  • +1

got one, and paid $2 for extra one year replacement warranty from DSE

  • None in my area :(

    • +1

      Yes we are

      • Still available near Wollongong and Sydney 2500
        Warrawong

        • I just called and hold the last unit in Warrawong. So FYI no more stock in Warrawong now.

        • +5

unless you rock up and say your name is mily

    • +1

      ya! =D

    • +1

Yes the OP posted the link for the previous deal.

  • I was wondering why click and collect wasn't working.. while I was doing it all the stock disapeared from all the stores…

    Edit:

Actually decided I would drive the 20km to north lakes.. got one!

    • yep. We cannot do that unless available in online. Have to go their and collect

  • It says 'and cannot coincide with any other offers' Does a pretty decent sale price at DS count as another offer?

    • Uh-oh. Can anyone confirm?

    • That would be no other D-Link offer
ie you can't claim cashback and get a free 802.11ac WiFi dongle (if that happened to also be an offer.

  • +3

DSE "click and collect" is so bad. I ordered one at local store when it was showing at stock, then just received a call from them, telling me they have sold it out :(

    • +2

Same… I "click and collect" successful at my store, they just called me they sold it same time as they want to put in aside for me… :(

      • +5

Typical Dick Smith, the actual worker hoard the product after they find out about this deal, probably find out from here.
This is the exact reason so many company disallow worker to join the competition/promotion, etc.

I don't mind they buy it for themself, but not by doing things like this…

        • +9

I had that happen to me, with a mad gps deal. I rang and encouraged to get one reserved "I'll be there in 30min, leaving now" he physically sat it aside. A csr when I arrived told me no stock. I asked for the guy I spoke to. Then there was a standoff between staff. Turns out, the clown in store decided it was his "we don't reserve stock". Oh the irony. He was a passive aggressive bully too. I pointed out i reserved it, it's still under the desk, I'm a customer… where's the boss. The csr from the phone got the courage to point out the bully already grabbed one earlier! Clown cracked the sads, tried force-selling me extended warranty, saying my card didn't work, after he pressed the wrong account. I got it, in the end. Crazy!

Gather round children, here's a story about today's deal.

      • I click and collect for my local store, then tell my coworker about the deal
      • Coworker tries click and collect - says 'low stock, call store' (yessssss I win)
      • Coworker calls store; after screwing around they say, yep we had two click and collects but I've found a box for you and put your name on it
      • The two of us walk to store. It takes two reps to figure out that they have only one box, with my coworker's name on it. They have another (opened) box with a broken unit. I don't want to buy a broken thing.
      • Rep sells the box to my coworker (since it has his name on it); tells me she will check with her manager if they can get one from another store but her manager is in a long meeting and they don't usually ship between stores and they've been short staffed this morning and and and BREATHE
      • Rep writes my phone number on an official looking scrap of paper
      • I am not expecting a call.

IRONIC TWIST: I lent my coworker $100 to buy the thing cos he left his wallet at home.

      • Haha damn that sucks. Sorry about the neg/pos tablet browsing sucks sometimes

      • +14

Your coworker sucks. Should have given the deal to you.

        • +2

Heh, it's really not that bad. I coulda said, nah sell it to me. The rep even mentioned that technically she should be selling to the click-and-collecters first. I just let it slide. The situation was ridiculous enough without complicating it further.

We'll work something out between us if I never get my own unit. I paid for his one anyway :)

I imagine if he'd gone in by himself they'd have sold him the only one they had, probably without even realising they had two click-and-collecters coming in later (who might be more pissed off than I was). Presumably some other bargain-hunter round these parts got some disappointing news today.

EXTRA UPDATE! DSE called back - they actually found me a unit! So it's not even an issue. Well done DSE, I guess?!

      • +2

I can't edit my original comment, but have to mention I got a call back from DSE and they organised a unit for me. I have to give them credit where it's due; they made a mistake but at least they followed up.

Blokes in store mentioned they'd had a lot of interest :)

        Have a nice day, everybody!

  • Looks like there's no more stock in Brisbane.

  • on DSE it says the item is "D-Link AC1750" but the cashback is for DIR865L. Are they the same? The name obviously is different. Just don't want to purchase one and then found out it's different item and unable to obtain the cashback.

    Thank you.

    • Yes

    • +1

Check the description of the product. It is the same. Had to recheck as well after I ordered, lol.

  • Got them to duplicate my receipt. Don't know why, but I did.

    • Wht's the point?

      • +1

Doesn't hurt to duplicate a receipt? You never know if something ever got lost on its way in the post… Cautious me is Cautious.

        • ou only send the receipt copy

      that's pretty standard.

  • Guys, Still available near Wollongong and Sydney 2500 if you are nearby
    Warrawong
    Mittagong
    Bowral

    law stock in Wollongong, Dapto

  • Out of stock online, low stock or no stock everywhere now (remember, Dick Smith "click and collect" doesn't actually reserve stock for you or guarantee it'll be there when you arrive to pick it up).

    :(

Good luck to anyone who wants to try anyway.

    • Mittagong
      Bowral

      Still available

    • unless you receive the 'item reserved' email, right?

      • I think that improves your chances, but I'd definitely call them first, to be sure.

  • Got the last one from Moonee Pond.

  • +2

Made an order, stock then disappeared for both stores near me. I have a feeling ill be receiving a call from them soon with bad news….

    • +1

The store I ordered from appears to have completely vanished from click and collect…. I'm expecting the same haha.
