D-Link DIR-865L AC1750 Wi-Fi Router - Dick Smith $84.50 (New Price Drop)

200

This was selling for $126.75 at Dick Smith before yesterday. Now the price has dropped to $84.50.

Too bad the D-Link JB Hi-Fi $100 cashback expired on 1/5/2013, so this is a consolation prize for those of you who failed to get a price match at JB.

Edit: What a surprise that the consolation prize has turned into a Jackpot with D-Link's new cashback offer. Too bad the majority of Dick Smith's stock lasted barely two hours. electronictomato should print his comment on paper and then eat it :-)

still doesnt beat the $26.70 after cashback

    • I doubt you'll ever be able to beat $26.70 again, so as the OP says this is a good consolation prize for those who didn't read the other thread. :)

That $26.70 is no way with JB and $100 cash back only applied you purchase device with JB.

I did try with JB and they are not stupid to match DS.

Uhh, at least 7 people reported that they managed to get JB to price match DS in this thread (including both easternculture and myself): http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101200

I managed to get the price match done on my first attempt, but some needed to try multiple stores.

        • yeh i got 2 with the price match

        • Me too

        • I managed to get JB Chatswood Westfield to price match as well. He even rounded the price down to $125 for me !

    • What's 20.70 is that the price or 26.70 after cash back?

  • awesome router for the money ($26.70) lol

No there is not such thing as $26.70 cash back as I did try at JB and they are not stupid. They are sell this device for more than $200. And they will not match DS's price.

      • um, i gots it and so did a few others from the original post.

it really depended on the store and staff but I also know alot of JB's were flat out refusing to price match as well.

        • Thanks for information. I thought all JB is the same. Next time I will nag them harder. May I ask which JB did you go?
          My one is Top Ryde.

        • Mine are one in Bourne street and one in Elizabeth street, was able to get it in the first attempt

  • Help! This or the Billion 7800NXL ?

What is the price for the billion one?

  • the question is what speed are the wifi afaptors that people are going to use with this new high bandwidth router?
The cost to upgrade all adaptors to ac1750 looks pricey.

That's why, you get more than 2 and set up one as a wireless bridge (supported in the original firmware), then connect your laptop to that bridge via gigabit Ethernet. This setup is still, theoretically, bottleneck at the wire gigabit connection due to higher max wireless ac speed of 1300 mbs compared to 1000 mbs

I was going to do this too but these "bottlenecks" confused me. I was looking at the DWA-182 AC1200 USB dongle for the other end, but their specs said it required USB2. I thought gigabit adaptors (ethernet or wireless) required USB3 as USB2 was too slow (480mbps theoretical max). Even though that dongle can do 876mbps max, it is only a USB2 device, so it made no sense to me, especially at $100. Using a couple of the routers would at least enable you to create a faster-than-gigabit wireless LAN, even though you could only uplink at gigabit speed.

AFAIK, the TEW-805UB dongle is USB 3.0, supporting dual spatial streams (unlike single spatial stream USB 2 dongles which only provide up to 433Mbps). I ended up ordering a Mini PCIe card myself, though. :)

        • Nice dongle, might wait a bit more for the price to come down and availability to improve. Which Mini PCIe did you go for? I didn't think there were any available yet, I just put a Centrino 6300 Untimate-N in my laptop to at least get dual-band.

        • I took a gamble and went for the AW-CE123H (sold out on eBay now; only other source I see for it is Taobao!): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200916264364

From what I can see, it's the only Mini PCIe currently in production — everything else has only just received FCC approval and is probably months away: http://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_802.11ac_Hardware#Wireless_…

  • looks as though the D-Link cashback is back on for another month. so you should be able to use this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102502 when purchasing this

  • This deal is still going. DSE Brisbane has one in stock for $129. Just got JB hifi to price match. Note that you can't get the $100 cash back if you buy it from DSE.

  • Camberwell DSE for those in Melb as well if you want to price match, have ONE in stock at the mo.

But don't think JB have any in stock themselves, not sure rules about price matching if the place you want to get it is out of stock.

  • $100 cheque turned up in the mail yesterday.
