D-Link DIR-865L Cloud Gigabit Router $129 at DickSmith

2911

User edit 0740 9/5/13: Price adjusted. Now $129 ($29 after cashback).

Edit 1100 10/5/13: Cashback exclusion list now includes DSE. Purchase at your own risk.

Edit: Here is the reply from D-Link via email: "This new Ts and Cs only applicable for any purchases from 10/5 onward".

Edit: Here is a clearer cut-off point, straight from their again-updated terms and conditions: "Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, Dick Smith, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers. DIR-865L purchases from Dick Smith after 10/5/2013 10am AEST will not be eligible for this offer (previous purchases before 10/5/2013 10am AEST will be honoured)."

So that is it. The deal technically expire now since they no longer offer cashback for purchase from dicksmith. HOWEVER, REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS PRICEMATCH AT JBHIFI OR HARVEY NORMAN, IF YOU CAN FIND STOCK AT DICKSMITH

Basically, the same deal at Dicksmith at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101972 but D-Link just have their new cashback promotion where they give $100 Cashback to purchases at ANY AUSTRALIAN STORES (except Officeworks).
I have checked dicksmith stock around Melbourne and plenty have stock.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Limit 1 per person per household only. Excludes Officeworks, E-Bay & Unauthorised E-Tailers, applicable to all other retailers and channel and cannot coincide with any other offers.

  • What the hell….it gave the wrong address after submit so I went back and now it wont print?
Edit: Copy sent to email address phew

As I said before no serial number on receipt to match box?
I bought two will this be an issue with redemption if I give them the wrong receipt?

    • They delay the cashback for 60 days because of this reason. After that you cant return.I think so but not sure.

  • Thanks - picked one up from JB in Chatswood Chase for $129 with a DSE pricematch. Just filling in the claim form now.

  • Can anyone tell me how to use it ? Currently, I have a modem&router at home and I'm with TPG. Now how can I apply this router to use its powerful functions ? Much appreciated.

    • What you want to achieve?

If your existing modem/router is crap, you may just want to use it as a modem and pass through the internet connection to the new router.

Alternatively you can use both, and the new router acts as an extension (e.g. disable dhcp and let old modem/router handle that + set up new wireless network info)

Either way, esssentially you connect the 2 devices with a network cable.

      • thank you very much. My old modem/router is out of date. I want to use the new Dlink as my router. How can I use the old one as just a modem ?

    • You would want to set your current modem/router one to the bridge mode, connect the new dlink to that one and do the setting up on dlink, which is automatic

      • thank you very much. how can I set the old one as bridge model ?

        • Search: <model name> bridge mode

        • If you can give me the model, I can help

  • I have a Dynalink RTA1046VW. Would appreciate advice on the best way to connect the D-Link DIR-865L router without lossing my existing VOIP.

    • +2

If you want to keep the VoIP, I guess that you have to leave your current dynalink as is and set up the Dlink to be an access point

      • Thanks, much appreciated. I'll look into setting up the D-Link to be an access point.

      • +1

Your Dynalink is a modem/router you have to connect it to the ADSL to get Internet access and if you want to keep it as your existing VOIP you can't change it much.

So as shinichiduy said setup Dlink as access point.

      • Cool, will setup Dlink as access point and enable the faster dual band wireless. Will turn off the slow wifi on the Dynalink. Thank you both for the advice.

  • Received email said that they received my form and in progress.

    • lucky! when did you submit your claim?

      • +1

The next day after saw this post when it was $84.

I actually emailed them to ask whether they received my form and got reply after around 5 days.

Another email from the senior manager said they received 600 claims need sometime to process.

  • just bought 1 from JB Artarmon The Sales look up DSE price and match it. Quick and easy :)

    • Damn. I went there last time, the manager wont do it. Say DSE price already reduced after the cash back, they will sell for 240, and you get $100 back which the same.

      X(

  • Has anyone tried succesfully to get Shareport working yet?
Have tried it on my iPad, S3, desktop and laptop with no joy.
Phone connects but will not stream music, video but occasionally pics.

    • You should already have your answer from Whirlpool.

      • Are you stalking me? ;)
I am using the Shareport Plus (as told on Whirlpool) on desktop at home…still stutters as does the music. Is it a hardware issue on my behalf or am i dillusional to think it will always run smooth from the "cloud"?
Phone and iPad are even worse when they do actually connect.

    • +1

      Try downloading shareport plus

  • I managed to get 2 of these in the end, one for me and one for a mate who was too lazy to come with me. Didn't realise that the limit is "one per household". You reckon they'll honour the invoice if we both send in a copy of it?

    • +1

Go back to the retailer and see if they'll split the invoice (cancel the old one and issue 2 separate invoices).

      • Doh. Cheers. Was thinking I'd have to go back to JB. Was hoping not though.

  • I bought one from JB Hifi on Tuesday
Just tried to put in the serial number last night and says it's been used. I've emailed the contact address waiting for an update. They've told me they will investigate.

    • Must be somebody told the serial number and use a difference invoice.

They should do what Brother did before, they asked to cut out the serial number from the box and mail them.

      • They used to do that before

  • how many have received their cheque or email confirmation?

    • No confirmation but I emailed them and they confirmed they received my form but still in progress.

      • why wouldn't they progress the form once they receive it? i would double check that. i emailed them asking if mine was received and they didnt know

  • Do HN still stock the router?

  • I grabbed one today for $120 at JB.

Is there two versions? There were two boxes, both DIR-865L / AC1750.

      • Thanks alvian :)

Anybody know the email to get in contact with them (Dlink)?

    • Contact: [email protected]
I sent them an email earlier today to ask if they received my letter (sent 2 weeks ago by registered post as well) , got an reply very quick: (But they didn't answer if they received my paperwork)

      Hi,

Once we processed your claim you will receive a confirmation Email from the system.
At the moment please expect at least a month to see your payment, sorry for the inconveniences.

      Best Regards,

Just received an email from D-Link: Your D-Link Product Redemption has been approved! YES! :D

Edit: Forms were sent on 13/5/13

        • same

        • If anyone gets a confirmation email, can you indicate whether:

          • you sent the registration letter via registered or ordinary mail
          • it was a response to an follow-up email enquiry or not

I sent my claim 8/5/13 by ordinary mail and haven't heard anything apart from the initial automated online response. I haven't sent a follow-up, I know they're busy.

  • Got the last one at JB HI-FI Leichhardt price matched to Dick Smith online for $129. No questions asked. :)

  • hi there, looking for some help. I 'bought' the router for my mother in law who was previously using non wireless internet. I need to get the old modem (speed touch 536)to talk to the router so that I can get Mum online wirelessly. (hope that makes sense). I was running the yellow cable from the modem to the router and then a blue cable from the router to the computer. the computer then recognizes the router but cant get on the internet if I take the blue cable out and put the yellow cable from the modem back into the computer it works again but of course is not wireless. rang tech support of Telstra for some help but all he wanted to do was sell me a modem router. He also said something about needing to have both the yellow and blue cable in the modem but there is only room for one of them in there. please help or I may have to go buy her a real present. thanks in advance and sorry if this is not the place to ask this. thank you

This is most likely an ip-address conflict. Ring up d-link support and they will take your through the steps to fix it- i did and they were great!

    • I'm running the same combo with no issues.

You've got two options for the set-up:
1: Bridge the Speedtouch 536, connect the 536 to the internet port on the D-link configure the D-link with the ISP log in details.

2: Run the D-link as an access point to do this you need to.
      • Disable UPnP
      • Disable DHCP
      • Change the LAN IP address to an available address on your network. The LAN ports on the router cannot accept a DHCP address from your other router.
      • Connect the ethernet cable from the 536 to one of the LAN ports on the D-link, don't connect anything to the internet port on the d-link.
See page 11 of the manual http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DIR-865L/Manuals/DIR-865L…

I'm running mine as an access point at the moment and have had no issues at all, how did you set the one you did up?

      • I spent 4 1/2 hours on the phone with DLink and Telstra yesterday. I am now sitting in a corner of my study in a ball rocking back and forth LOL With STILL no connection happening. I have to stress that whilst I am not a complete idiot I am not that great with computers. Telstra said I cant change the modem from PPPoA, Dlink says I have to. I don't even know what the heck PPOA is!!! I am at the point of taking the dammn thning back and buying Mother In Law a wireless router modem thingo.

    • awesome if people bought on their 28 degrees cc!

i wonder if you can purchase, "sell" to yourself, and submit… given the claim is based on serial number

    • seriously??

    • Thanks, managed to score one for $42.25 today

      • Got one at $42.25 2 days ago. no rebate but still a good price for an AC router.

    • So far I have only got email regarding they have received my form.

      • i have neither. also i did email to ask what happens if the form is lost in the post and not processed by closure date. patrick replied to say it will be honoured and to keep his email in my inbox if required.

Received my cheque today. Claimed on the 10th of May.

    • Good on you, hope will receive it soon.

See if I receive it when I back home.

      • I received mine today as well. Claimed on the 13/5/13 via registered post. Received email like this on 31/05/2013:

Still nothing I think I claimed and posted earlier so they are not first come first serve.

          Not even this email.

        • Me too, I'm getting a bit nervous. I sent mine 8/05/2013 by ordinary mail and haven't heard anything. I sent a follow up email request recently but haven't heard back from that either. Seems the process is really random and certainly not first come first served.

        • don't worry - i received my email today; form posted 8 May. Very random

  • Cashback approved woohoo :)

  • I posted on 16th May…..got it before cutoff date at DSE……no email or cheque yet….

    • I posted on the 9th and received the confirmation email today, hopefully the cheque won't take too long to arrive.

I received the cashback approval confirmation email last week, and the actual cashback came in the mail today. It was a $100 NAB Cheque!!!

  • Took so long finally received approval confirmation.

    • Same with me. Got my email saying approved on 31May. Then yesterday received my Cheque.
Happy days now that I got a free router and made $15.50…..

  • Free router and money - as good as Ozbargain gets..

  • Got my conformation email today, I sent it off on may 14 just by regular post cos I'm tight^^
But it says to allow 60 days for the check to arrive!

  • Got cashback in email last Wednesday! :D

    • They must have done electronic fund transfer to your email address right?

  • Received my Check in the Mail today !

  • My cashback cheque arrived in the mail today as well!

    • Me too received today in the mail, not email lol.

  • Received $100 cheque without any problem.

  • I got my cheque today as well. thanks op~~

  • I don't even have the confirmation email, let alone a cheque :(

Sent via registered post from Perth, and can see via tracking that they received it on 15/05/13.

    • Just got confirmation email :D

  • Received my cheque in the mail yesterday !

  • Got an email saying up to 60 days to process today?
    This standard?
No cheque in mail today though :(

    • I received the same e-mail too. Reassuringly D-Link says they will honour our claims just in case the mail was lost, as long as we can provide proof of purchase.

My guess is that they have a huge backlog of claims and since the claiming window closes in 5 days, they are sending this e-mail to stop us pestering them with "did you get my mail?" enquires.

    • I was concerned about that 60 days line too, but I got my cheque today, only 6 days after the email =)

  • Got my cheque yesterday. Claim posted 9 May.

  • Got the cheque in perth. Sent on 8th may regular mail. Now wsiting for 28degree price protection refund.

    • just curious how do 28 degree knw what price DS selling? It's no longer on DS website

    • eecchhoo, did you buy it from DSE? Your previous post mentioned you bought it from "Gateway" (is that a place in Perth or a different business?). I don't think the 28 Degrees protection works like that, it has to be the same store/chain. I'm just getting used to this with my newly acquired card :)

      • I got it from dse at gateway shopping…so if its from the same company name. Its fine doesnt matter its store or online.
Btw I have got the refund from 28degrees.
I thikk if its under $100 you needto have seen the price reduce but normally I will take a picture or screenshot just in case they ask for it.

  • Approved email came in today
    SHOW ME THE MONEY!

  • Got the router for the cheap Dick price.. Also got my $100 today.. Sweet! Thanks D Link!

  • Woo $15 profit!
