USB DVB-T TV Tuner $8 @HN Armadale (WA)

70

Walked in HN in Armadale and saw this TV tuners @ $8. About 20 or so still in the basket. Looks like excess bonus of past Toshiba laptops from the "Not for retail sale" line.

Note: The support web link on the box is no more. The company appears to have ceased operation.

  • Low price for a DVB Tuner, but prefer to pay an extra $2 for SDR.

Which chipset does this HN one use?

Does not work with Windows 8. It installs OK but it will not find any TV channel.

Works with WXP, Vista & 7.

    • Is that for media centre?

Cause they work with a software called TotalMedia also only tried on Win7 though

      • Yes, Windows Media Centre. I have not tried any other TV tuner programs.

"Not for retail sale"? Seems Harvey shouldn't selling them at all, rather give them away (with the rightful promotion) or as prizes in store. It shits me when major outlets try and on-sell promo items.

    • You have it wrong Bramasaurus, Harvey Norman aren't actually retailers ;-)

For TV Tuner Devices - I have found MediaPortal to be the best! and its free.

So, if the manufacturer of these devices has ceased operation, how do you download drivers?
    And what about updates?

    • +2

These are Kaiser Baas brand so they are still around they just dont support this card anymore

    • Most of the drivers are generic Realtek drivers so you can find them there. I got a simular one when buying Windows 7 as bonus and only got Vista Drivers but they are still working in Windows 8.

  • What aerial or antenna do you guys use with the TV tuner? When I use mine on my laptop, I can only get a few digital channels and it's very sensitive to the position of the tiny antenna.

    • +1

That tiny thing is useless u need a proper indoor antenna or even better use outdoor antenna

Makes me wonder how Harvey Norman is allowed to sell a promotional product which says Not For Retail Sale on the package which is exactly what they're doing here. They're obviously breaking their agreement with the manufacturer. They obviously were given the damn things for free by Toshiba to be given out as a bonus with Toshiba laptops only. Also makes me wonder did they fail to give these out with those Toshiba laptops which they were supposed to do. In that case those buyers got ripped off.

Another case of a retailer selling some thing which they should not be in the first place.

  • Well this is obviously their way at getting back at the professionals not every day someone one would pay money for something that is normally given away as free.
