  • Good price for a mechanical keyboard.

  • Approximate delivery costs?

    • I put in my address in WA and got $28.00

      also
Pay with your card or your PayPal account - 2.4% surcharge applies (Visa & Mastercard Accepted)

      So cost became
      $79.15

I thought PayPal banned companies having surcharges for using PayPal?

        • +1

          Hi Alzori,

The alternative is removing it all together which limits customers options or increasing our prices to compensate for the fees they charge on every transaction. Neither are in our or the customers best interests.

        • +5

Doesn't stop it breaching Paypal's TOS.

        • So, instead, you put the low price to lure customer in.

Then breaching the PayPal TOS by surcharging the customer?

Who will benefit that way? Customer, PayPal, or Evatech?

Don't get me wrong, this might be a good deal, it's just the way you are doing it might not be the best in YOUR interest.

    • I'm trying to find out costs now

      Hi Tantryl,

Saw the traffic spike on our site and thought Oz-bargain might be the culprit!

Shipping costs are calculated based on post code and shipping on this item is handled by fastway couriers.

Major metro areas are as follows,

      Melbourne : $9.50
      Geelong : $11.75
      Albury Wodonga : $11.75
      Bendigo : $11.75
      Sydney : $13.75

      Adelaide : $13.75

      • Thanks for the comprehensive list.

      • +1

Yeh shipping prices quite expensive… Almost $30 to ship to Perth.

      • +1

Hi Rep. I'm being quoted $36.70 shipping to Hamilton NSW (Newcastle). Total price $86.65. Halp?

        • Hi Apat,

At the moment our shipping prices are calculated based on an data provided by Fastway. Please email [email protected] with your post code and we will try and find alternatives for you.

      • +2

Phew, for a second there I was contemplating actually buying one.

      • I am also getting $36.70 shipping to Sydney NSW..

        • Hi MinaHany,

As I mentioned above to Apat, if you can email [email protected] with your postal address we will do what we can to find alternatives postal methods for you.

      • +5

You guys need to sign up for eParcel with Australia Post or something. I don't know how much these weigh, but if you move 1000 parcels a year minimum it will be only about $11 to ship something up to 3kg Australia wide.

        Cheers,
        Wade

        EDIT - www.auspost.com.au/eParcel
        Tracking and signature on delivery.

        • Hi Wade,

We are definitely already looking in to eParcel as well as some other options and should have better shipping alternatives up and running soon.

        • And post office boxes are so much less hassle than courier deliveries. I try and avoid places that don't ship to PO boxes.

  • +2

    Hope the keys don't pop

    • +9

As long as you're the first, it should be okay

  • Cheers! bought one!

Looks like they are only selling Blues =[ Was in the market for some reds.

    • +4

interested in some browns here too

      • Seconding this. Blues are fine for gaming if you like rts but anything else and they can be a real pain. Lovely to type on though

        • +2

What else would you do on it apart from typing? :3

    • I'd also be interested in red switches, especially at this price point.

    • +3

I have quite a few keyboards - I currently use cherry red, I have cherry brown, a cherry black, the Matias Alps keys (like a heavier blue), several IBM buckling spring units and a the Topre switch units. Key feel is very personal/subjective; one consistent factor if weight, it goes to the difference between feeling cheap and rattly or a precise action on a solid base. I like red for its lighter feel though ironically I'd be happier if the travel were shorter; brown is very similar but has a slight hump in the centre of the keystroke, I tend to bottom out keys though so I'm not quite as aware of it. Blues to me are a little fussy and they do make quite a bit more noise, you do get used to that at home though; I'd recommend trying it out somewhere, perhaps somewhere that sells the Razor mechanicals.

      • Great advice, if you are in Sydney head over to Capitol Square, I did manage to find a guy there that had a range of Ducky keyboards available, sadly they did not have the SHINE II so I passed on them, but they did let me get a feel for Red/Black/Brown/Blue keys.

This was Nov last year, when I was shopping for my keyboard.

        • Any more info on the shop's name or location?

        • From memory it is FuDaChi (T21-23), but that place is such a maze that I never really keep track of who and where……it does look about right on that map, it could be Mobile Square (T27)

          http://www.technocity.com.au/location-map.php

          Hope that helps

        • Thanks I'll check it out

    • I have some Reds (Gigabyte Aivia Osmium - not so OzBargain) and they are awesome, but I have been looking for some Blues to put into the office to annoy the crap out of my colleagues! Once you have gone Mech you can't go back unfortunately

      • How do these compare with my good old IBM ps2? I love that thing…

        • Probably as loud….and with a very similar click that is so satisfying. I have never put the blue next to the model M though

        • Blue is lighter an more anaemic sounding than buckling spring - the base is important, if it's in a heavy base then it sounds more "grounded" as such. The buckling spring really needs a heavy base too; heavy base tends to stop it from echoing as much. I'd say that volume is about 50% of the IBM Model M and isn't a "strong" a sound…. The M clicks on the way down and on the way up too - this is what buckling spring does, the blues only click once from what I recall.

  • Hmmm to buy or not to buy…

  • +9

Yeah we need to change the description, this deal is only available in blue. If you don't understand the difference in colour look at http://www.pcworld.com/article/242037/mechanical_keyboard_fa…
In summary there is a small delay before you feel a bump and the stroke is registered with the blue switch. Personally, I would rate this switch as my least favourite for gaming.

    • +5

It's probably my favourite for typing though.

If you're going to buy one of these, make sure the people you live or work with are A-okay because it sounds like a typewriter. Even the softest key actuation causing a very audible clack.

    • I think that's pretty much the consensus, it gives a great feeling and response for typing so that's why people like blues. Gaming is more suited to black/red switches as they have no click, just a linear response while pushing them down. Browns are sort of a middle ground, with a bit of a dull click so they're kind of an all rounder.

    • +1

      You made me sad :(

      My blackwidow uses blue switches

      • I love my Blackwidow for gaming. I much prefer the click than without, I'm a Cherry Blue man :) It's all personal preference!

  • Having a bit of difficulty understanding the need for a keyboard that is both compact and mechanical.
Isn't the whole point of a mechanical keyboard the full sized performance & responsiveness ?

    crazy price though.

    • I travel a fair bit for work and hate typing on my laptop after switching to mechanical at home. Currently contemplating purchasing a tenkeyless board with brown switches actually. Some of the old guys at work turn off their numpads too, so I could imagine it would be a bit annoying having that there when you could have the mouse much closer to where you're typing

      • +1

The only thing that would suck more than having to type on the laptop keyboard is paying for and carrying around a second keyboard :-/ dilemma

  • This is a great deal.

  • How would this compare with a Ducky?

    • +1

I'd bet Ducky is better. I know this is a Cherry but it's just an entry level keyboard.

  • +1

IMHO this keyboard can't be beaten
    http://pckeyboard.com/page/QTRD/UB4044B
    with Linux key set…
    http://pckeyboard.com/page/SBLE/LinTuxSet

    • Nostalgic looking. Many are out of stock though.

    • Narf - have you used one of the recent ones? I'm curious to see how similar they are to the IBM Model M series. I personally preferred the earlier Model F (which came with the very early IBM PC, the key feel was also found on many of their typewriters). The F was a bit lighter, it was amazing to use.

      • +2

yeah I use the one in the link above. it's touch perfect & bullet proof. Metal base and body.
slightly noisy though I wonder if the "quiet" model is better?
anyhow its got better action than the old honeywell keyboards if anyone remembers them

        • +1

The Honeywell units were membrane from what I can remember - nowhere near the same class as these things. I read that some felt that they weren't as good as the Model M's; I've never seen a recent post on it though.

        • original Honeywell Keyboard (pre Windows 95) They were excellent.
I believe this was the model
          http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-HONEYWELL-101WN-Keyboard-PS2…

Keytronics bought out the Keyboard/Mice Division of Honeywell and continued to produce the same great keyboards with the now standard Windows features.

I still think the unicomp is better however

    • +2

I had a Unicomp for a few years in my previous job and was thoroughly hated in the office because of the machine gun noises it produces when I'm mad-coding :)

    • Yes, the UniComp with the buckling springs are the best keyboards however the noise is the loudest.

Unfortunately it was too loud for my colleagues at work or the family at home .. so it had to be sold on ebay.

  • I'm looking to buy this, but postage to Sydney is $36.70 not $13.75 like stated above..
    What's the deal?

    • Ditto. Something is screwy in their postage quoting. If I enter my work address I get quoted $36.70 shipping. If I enter my home address I get $13.75. My house is a 10 minute drive from work.

      • My house is a 10 minute drive from work.

You clearly just have a really fast car! ;)

Mechanical Keyboard Guide with animation and benefits of each type of switch.
    http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide

It's a real bummer just to register for the shipping cost. Well, one day I'll find you Browny, one way or another.

  • Dammit so tempted….it is a "Cherry" I wonder if it is really is the same Cherry as the key switch manufacturer……so tempted…

    • It is the Cherry but a low end entry model. I am resisting and pretty much will success this time.

      • +4

I hope you success in school

  • Going by this review, this model is not worth getting.

If you just want to see what a mechanical KB is, fine, but it sounds like it's worth paying a small amount more for better quality

    http://deskthority.net/news-reviews-f4/cherry-g80-3800-mx-bo…

  • Ahhhh, so that's a "mechanical keyboard". In a previous conversation I though some guy was simply referring to any traditional keyboard (as opposed to smartphone-and Minority Report- styles).

I've already been told off for typing too loudly as it is. And yes, I love the sound and tactile feedback - it's the musical instrument I play with the most.

    • -1

All keyboards are mechanical. Mechanical = has moving parts.

  • Shame it doesn't have programmable keys…but good price

  • Anyone have a recommendation for a programmer? I smash around 106 keys p/m - I barely game anymore.

    • That's quite slow, do you mean 106 wpm?

  • -8

Mechanical keyboard… nice one. Do they have any specials on CRT monitors?

    • +3

Terrible joke… or just total fail on the part of the poster who dosen't understand anything about mech keyboards.

      • …or appreciate the colour accuracy and viewing angles of a good CRT.

        • Well, that may not be far off the mark…MrZ only recently upgraded to a plasma, prior to that he was a self-confessed die-hard (Bruce Willis strength), Sony Trinitron fanboi. The man knows his way around a CRT! :p

Hi Guys, Just an update. We have sold through all our stock on hand. At this stage we do not have a solid ETA on the next shipment so we cannot accept back orders. As soon as we have one the site will be updated.

Orders placed with PayPal before 1:45AM have been dispatched today and customers will be updated with tracking numbers shortly. The rest will be dispatched Monday morning.

Orders placed for in stock pick up are now ready for pick up and orders placed with with Bank Transfer used as the payment method will be processed and updated on an order by order case as each clears.

    • Very fast dispatch, thanks.

    • +1

Sorry for the typo above, it was actually 1:45PM today, not AM.

  • +1

If anyone is still interested we manage to get our hands on a few more. Couldn't quite get the same price as our last batch so we had to up the price a little to $55.

  • +1

Got a third allocation and this time down to $52!
Also have a Cherry-MX Red Gaming Keyboard exclusive to Evatech for $59.95 (cheapest cherry red on the market by a fair margin!) and $4 Cherry branded optical mouse.

Get in quick as this allocation is likely to our last before stock runs dry nation wide. Details here, http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=473329696075337&set=a…

    • +1

I think the 3494 could be a much better deal than the MX 2.0, made in Germany and red keys are lighter/quiet for typing.
Just ordered one myself this time (yes, I resisted the blue last time as it is supposed to be a cheap model).

Rep, I think you might like to submit a new post to attract more attention.

      • Hi Mily,

We would, but as our last post was much less 'popular' and as a we have been restricted from posting new deals for a little while. All part of the very understandable spam prevention process but unfortunately in this case might make it harder for ozbargain community to stumble upon the team.

Best we could do is leave the update here and hope people find it themselves. If there is any stock by the time the restriction is lifted we will surely post it our selves, if someone else doesn't beat us to it :)

Also, we have done what we can to drop shipping prices to major metro areas and are still looking in to doing our best to drop them further in the near future!

        • I posted it for you.
And yes I noticed the 45c drop in postage, though this and the paypal surcharge still seem to be quiet high. Anyway, the price for keyboard is decent to me. Hope you can get better discount on shipping along the growth of your business.
          Cheers.

  • Weird, no reviews from ozbargainers yet?

I was thinking of buying one, any reviews?

  • I wouldn't buy one, typing on one now and it's ok - but you'd be better off going for the Ducky keyboard if you really wanted a quality mechanical keyboard.

    • Thanks Velocita :)
