  • Hmmmm DSE Ad doesn't mention the cans.

    • check the image that was uploaded

    • seems DSE has closed the deal.

  • +1

The solo headphones are only worth $149 it's the solo HDTV that are $259 and its not hd you get free.

    • +13

its the Solo HD- A8438/A8435 - RRP $259 / if we are talking actual worth- i would consider them somewhere in the sub $30 range. :P

      • You could probably get at least $150 for them on ebay though.

        • $181 new at Harvey Norman. Possibly cheaper elsewhere but that was the first place I looked.

        • Ebay is flooded with these, some selling sub $100

        • +4

Be careful with fakes on ebay.

        • Agreed, they are everywhere. Impossible to spot until it's too late.

  • Where does it say that it includes the BEATS headphones?

  • The Beats are the only thing that make the deal interesting. You can get the phone cheaper elsewhere ($686 inc GST at thegoodguys).

  • +8

They'd have to pay me to take the beats

    • +11

      Ebay

  • So its only valid for one day?
Agreed, it cheaper elsewhere but if the cans come with it then this is a decent deal, but then again they're Beats so I most likely will never wear them out but I can give them to my sister :)

Also which colour will they give you?

  • was just advertised on tv also…

  • Damn, that is very tempting.

Is there any way to select which colour of headphones you want?

Might go in store tomorrow to get it.

    • +1

you will be given the Justin Beiber Edition of the beats headphones :P

  • any stand-out features compared to a Galaxy S4?
    I'm thinking of buying.

    • I love the aluminium body, I've been after a phone for a while that feels as sturdy as an iPhone and this is close as you can get.

      • is this the new phone that has the "best" rear camera?

        • +2

It depends, if the photos are for facebook, take the HTC one, the 4 megapixels will be more than enough and the added low light performance will be a huge benefit.

If you want something a little sharper and richer during daylight, go for the S4.

        • +4

Please tell me your opinion isn't solely based on the pixel count…? Because it's very wrong.

        • +2

No, despite the fact that pixel count isn't everything, the S4 still has a nicer camera than the HTC One. Except - in low light, the HTC One is better.

        • +1

Umm…. it's not just the pixel count that counts, the image sensor in the HTC is much bigger than the Samsung- and that makes a huge difference in how the device takes the shot. Just look at all the DSLR's out there. The more expensive ones have bigger sensors, the cheaper ones have smaller ones.

The low light capabilities of the HTC kicks the crap out of the Samsung. When you consider where you take most of your shots when using the mobile camera, bright sunny days isnt probably the norm.

Better go Google "HTC One v Samasung S4 review", and then download the test images available.
Both cameras are good, but there is a noticable difference.

        • @UFO, READ!!! Mikeologos IS saying low light is better - without a doubt. But many reviews are saying (at least ALL of the ones I have come across - probably around 4-5)the s4 has the better daytime shots - even with/regardless of (whatever you want to put in here) the 'overly' high pixel count.

So rushing so badly to defend HTC. We are not the mass public here (hopefully - otherwise no deals left) - we ALL know that pixel count isn't everything.

        • the image sensor in the HTC is much bigger

It's slightly bigger. Not remotely enough to offset the lower resolution.

The low light capabilities of the HTC kicks the crap out of the Samsung

The OIS allows it to push ahead for static scenes by using a slower shutter speed and lower ISO. In terms of noise and detail at equivalent ISOs the S4 is superior, surprisingly.

        • I've reviewed both HTC One and Samsung GALAXY S4. I agree that megapixels are not everything, unless if you like to zoom in closer, crop, or view it on a large screen

As others said, for daylight outdoor photos, S4 definitely shines more compared to the HTC One. But it shoots wonders indoors and in the evening :) Love the phone overall too (the speakers and build)

    • +2

      It has stereo speakers.

  • Have been keen on a HTC One since it came out, and as I smashed my Nexus 4 yesterday now seems like a good time, but still so expensive.

  • Any idea what the warranty is, seems you can only buy online and not instore

    • Available in-store from tomorrow.

      12 months manufacturer's warranty. Additional 12 months for $99.

      • +2

I thought all HTC phones came with 24 months warranty

        • You seem to be right, my apologies.

  • and I just bought 64GB from HN..fml

    • How much was the 64gb version?

  • it does say only available online

  • Do these phones have the "gap" quality problem?

    • Does it?

So the Beats headphone given will be black? Can anyone verify this?

      • Black or red

  • .

  • Backordered
Product ships on arrival. ETA: Unavailable

  • Confusing because it says only available online, yes black is for the headphones

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/EM5197/

  • +1

I think I might sell my iphone 5 64gb for this.

    • Same boat as you good sir. I say do it!

    • +3

you won't regret it, my ONE owns the mrs' ip5 in almost every way.

  • Does this phone come in black?

    • only through telstra, 3 months exclusive

      • Not three months.
        Permanent exclusive.
Same exclusive as one xl. Virgin and optics only hot white xl then too.

  • Does anyone know if 28 degrees shoppers protection will still be available to claim if it includes the Beats headphones. eg The price drops and you try to match it with another retailer but they don't include the Solo Beats?

    • Don't quote me on this but the Beats come up as $0, so just treat the purchase like $698 for the phone itself and you can use that to claim back any price falls.

    • How does that work exactly? Do you send a copy of your original receipt then a copy of the new lower price? What time frame does the protection last?

Worth the risk I suppose. Htc phones drop in price fairly quickly ie the htc 8x. And this one will too when they release the htc one with stock android.

This Citibank policy is very generous: If you purchase an item with your credit account and during the next 180 days the price is reduced by more than $10 in the same store or a store of the same name, you will be paid the difference

This phone will be half the price in 6 months time.

This is the scheme I get through the CBA which is no where as generous: Our Guaranteed Pricing Scheme provides you with peace of mind when shopping and guarantees you get the best price. If you discover that an item purchased with your Platinum card is advertised in a catalogue at a lower price elsewhere then you can make a claim for the difference if this is above $75 AUD, as long as it’s within 21 days of your purchase and the lower price is from a store within 25km of the store you purchased from. Other conditions apply, find out more here.

      • "And this one will too when they release the htc one with stock android."

        Seriously?

        • Yes and no. They are releasing it with stock android in the Google Play store June 26.
          http://blog.htc.com/2013/05/htc-one-google-nexus-experience/

However, it is supposed to be very limited numbers, 500,000 and probably only the US store.

          Plus also this

"HTC also provided another interesting tidbit: it's currently "examining the best way to support early adopters of the One" that may prefer the stock Android experience over Sense, perhaps by way of an AOSP ROM. The company isn't providing specifics on that front just yet. Still, if you're a One owner feeling burned by today's announcement, there may be hope."

      • Unity1, have you got a link to that Citibank Price Guarantee policy?
I could only see the one for my Signature card that guarantees price when a minimum $75 difference is shown in a catalogue within 60days. Price protection is for a max $500.

I'll be switching to the card you have with that pricing policy of $10difference and 180day period.

        • Looks like an insurance policy you take out on top of an existing card http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/insurance/card_guard.htm

        • thanks for that, it looks like the Complimentary one that comes with the Signature cars is: https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/complimentary_insuran…

Guaranteed Pricing Scheme reimburses Citibank cardholders for the difference in price, up to A$500, between a covered product they have purchased on their card and the same covered product advertised in a store produced catalogue.
          Eligibility

All Citibank Credit Card cardholders are eligible for the Guaranteed Pricing Scheme when the whole purchase price of a covered product is charged to the cardholder's card and the price difference is more than A$75.
          What is covered?

We cover you for the difference in price, up to A$500, between the price of a covered product and the purchase price of the same item advertised in a store catalogue that is produced after you purchase the covered product, provided that:

          The cheaper covered product is new, the same model number and year and produced by the same manufacturer as the covered product purchased;
The cheaper covered product is available from a store within a 25 kilometre radius of the store where you purchased the covered product; and
You make a claim under this cover no later than 60 days after the purchase of your covered product and provide to us the store-catalogue advertising the cheaper covered product.

  • Thanks for posting.. Not a fan of beats but free is free :-)

    4 mega pixel camera wtf

    • +8

So? Did you want to use your mobile phone camera to make billboard ads with?

      • -6

        read this review smart man
The HTC One can’t produce the same sort of detail-filled shots as the high-end smartphone competition, and its relatively noisy. Next to an iPhone 5, which has a comparatively straightforward sensor, the HTC One’s daylight shots feature a relatively poor level of detail. It’s only in poor lighting that the HTC claims an easy victory.

The HTC One also has a tendency to overexpose brighter areas in photos, especially if it is trying to compensate for dodgy lighting.

        • +8

It's all fun to quote opinions, but let's take a look at actual pictures taken: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/04/24/samsung-galaxy-s4-vs…
Say what you want, the One took better pictures than the S4 in most scenarios.

        • I've had the HTC One for a month now and it takes pretty good photos. Love the zoe feature, and the way it makes little slide show videos to music, without you having to do anything.
Some photos are a little over exposed, and indoors, skin tone can look a little pink, but the only think I'm not happy with is when I take pics of people in portrait mode it seems to stretch them for some reason. Can't find any mention online about this.
Overall I'm very very happy with the HTC One. Forward facing sound on videos and music is amazing!

        • +1

the One took better pictures than the S4 in most scenarios.

No it did not. The comparisons in the site you linked are completely deceptive since they're comparing 75% and 100% crops which will naturally favour the lower resolution camera. All it shows is that on a per pixel basis, the One is slightly sharper - but the S4 has three times as many pixels, and stomps the One when downrezzed to the same dimensions.

    • +1

its a 4 ultra pixel camera, not 4 mega pixel

      • +2

Whilst it is claimed by HTC to have a 4UP camera, ultrapixels is a marketing term and is actually just 4MP.

As I said above, pixels isn't everything and a lot of picture quality is rather associated with the size of sensors etc.

    • -5

4 micro pixel not mega pixel…

  • +1

Expecting a barage of Beats Solo HDs on eBay and gumtree in the coming weeks.

  • +2

Has anybody tried this deal? I tried online but it seems not working…….. no headphone included in the cart…….

    • I ordered, got the earphones

      • When did you order it? I just tried it 10 mins ago and no headphone……… another trick from DSE again???

        • WTH, seems DSE just closed the deal.

  • +1

Really love this phone but the logo instead of a middle button drives me crazy..

    • +1

you can use it as a button on custom rom

      • swipe home button app

  • Geeze, that ended fast.

  • +1

I don't see a free headphone when I check my cart, it says back ordered.

    • Same here. No free headphones in cart.

  • Just saw the ad on TV about this. It says it starts tomorrow (monday 3/6/13) online and instore….

  • mofo! i purchased the htc last monda ~ 6 days ago… still havnt opened the box… would i be able to get this with headfones?

    • +2

      Sure you can.
You just have to buy it again

  • Actually, one of the most understated advantages of this phone is the quality of sound recording. Exhibit a

  • great phone, love it to bits. Bought it fro $680 a few days back so i'm not too disappointed.

  • Question is will DSE actually have stock or will they just pull their usual bullshit

  • lol just bought the phone yesterday

    from the good guys

the headphones that come with the phone are high quality compared to apple/samsung/etc

these would be of added bonus

however beats is over priced and pretty much paying for the look/brand

im not a brand whore per se …just food for thought

    • the beats headphones that come with the phone are fantastic compared to apple, they're actually better than my senheisers.

  • Would any other store price match this?

  • Is the deal still available with beats?

and can you get the Beats HD in store?

There doesnt appear to be an end date but seems that you cant add beats to the cart? :/

  • I just got an S4 and I kinda want an HTC One to play with :( Not buying it but man if I won one, for free - I'd probably at least switch to it for a month to see how I like it.

  • +1

I've called Dick Smith online, and they said the head phone didn't show up because it's a "FREE" item, once they have process the order, they will include the head phone in the order.

I asked what if they didn't send the head phone and they said since they will have a record on their end with when it was ordered, they will be able to track and correct the order if the head phone didn't come with the order.

I'm willing to take the risk so I've personally put one order down and I took a screen shot of the offer with the date and time. So…. I guess, for others, order at you own risk??

    • I was going to do the same thing but you have done that and thanks for the effort :)

    • Strange, when I purchased a Panasonic Plasma TV, it came with a free Blu Ray.
It was listed as an item on the invoice at $0.00

    • I have called this morning as well and got the same explanation. After considering a while I have placed the order. I think the headphone would not come with cell phone in the first delivery since in their ordering system there would be no any note regarding to the headphone then the packing list (which the warehouse guy's only paper work needs to follow for the packaging things) would not show the headphone . I have tried another deal (UE sound dock with free $100 iTunes gift card ) and the cart did include the free iTunes gift card as "bonus item". Anyways, I am prepared to argue with DSE online after I receive the delivery , the worst scenario is I retuned the cell phone if finally no headphone gives to me

  • Is there anyone like me just purchase because of the headphones? I am going to sell the HTC One as I have the Galaxy S4 already.

    • Well, not me personally, but how much are you looking for the phone?

I'm still considering if I want them, and if so, what to do with the headphones…

      • Where are you based at? Send me a whim if you are interested, I am in Brisbane

  • Thanks for the deal Just paid for it in George st store Sydney CBD.
Phone sold out this morning, so they will ring when its in. Hopefully today.
Picked up the red Beats solo though. Spent lunch time on ebay to see what I'd get back for em.
Quick question - I should still be able to get the TRS refund for the phone right as the beats are listed on the receipt as bonus offer $0.00?

    If so im assuming I got the phone for $698 - $63.45(GST) - $200(sell Beats) = $434.55 = Winning
    Thanks again OzB!! :)
