  • guys having some trouble choosing between this and htc 8s telstra locked as seen here:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/108129, i am on aldimobile and my current phone is pretty much dead. I guess the better wifi would be my biggest issue, my bargain side is screaming for this but looks of the htc is better. so basically is an extra $74 worth is for the htc. thanks in advance for the help!

    • The HTC you're looking at is much faster than this one, but bear in mind there's also a difference in operating system. This is Android, HTC 8s is WP8.

The HTC 8s is also rivaled by the Huawei Y300 (you can get this for $114 from the Telstra site). It has similar specifications, but runs Android. It's one option to consider if Windows Phone does not interest you.

      • Thanks! WP8 does interest me a lot…I got till 6:59 to decide…in any case I am leaning towards to the HTC one.

I just want to give a shout out to bagman.
I bought the phone at 8:30am, contacted him (with the payment) a couple of hours later and now I have an unlocked phone, running on a Dodo SIM (Optus) for less than $45! And with a $10 Telstra prepaid card to run in another phone (or to spend on apps).
Great service. Highly recommended. Very happy.

    • No go on the apps with the included sim value. Search the forums if you want the details.

Maybe you could give the OP a positive vote as well?
I could never take advantage of a deal and not give a +.

      • I'm sure branners just forgot. Lots of Ozbargainers do. I'm guilty from time to time too.

        • I voted with a +, many thanks for the reminder.

  • Hi any one facing problems with Play store with this phone??

In my mobile its not starting at all. as i clicked on it it gives message "Unfortunately play store has stopped"

  • Thanks OP. I just got me one. Great deal……

  • My phone didn't come with a Telstra sim pack did this happen to anyone else?

    • I got mine, and had to show my license/etc. What happened? :/ If you paid the same amount, go back and complain?

  • Have yet to unlock mine, and only 2GB accessible. (150MB apps…though on apps settings it says 600MB available, maybe I'm not reading it right. ._.)

Wish I'd picked this up earlier, still a decent phone for the price.

  • Thanks OP got one.

  • you can also get petrol voucher when you buy this phone and present the receipt to get Telstra USB+WiFi for $10 too,but elstra USB+WiFi offer ends 2 july 2013 :)

For those who may have doubts about the battery on the Y201, I have used it today. From a full charge, and after about 90 mins on phonecalls, it is still more than half-charged. Also been using Twitter and emails for much of the day.
Wandered around the house, reception good in every room (which is not something I have always had with much more pricey handsets). Using Dodo unlimited (Optus).
Very happy. If you are wondering whether it is a good unit, my advice is, it is!

Thanks for posting this deal. I bought this phone too and my daughter is very pleased with it. I also want to say a huge thanks to Bagman who came through with the unlocking code. Much appreciated.

  • For under $40 and it plays Angry Birds fluently. I got my money's worth already.

  • Bought one, thanks OP. Is anyone able to use it with lyca mobile sim without unlocking it? Lyca works on telstra network, so like kogan and aldi, it should work straight away but it's asking me for the unlock code :(

  • Anyone interested or know where to buy a similar case to the flip style vinyl/leather case with magnetic fastener but for the Ascend?

    1. It's easy to open with one hand
    2. Protects the screen whilst in the pocket
    3. still lets you take pictures without taking out of case

I can't seem to find it online and have also contacted a number of ebay sellers but only one responded.

So I'm trying to guage interest so that one of the sellers will contact their suppliers to make it available.
