Yes, I know it's the traditional women's side; I don't know why people get touchy on this though. A jacket is a jacket and can be worn by either sex, regardless of marketing. As long as it fits you (and you like it), that's all that matters.

I'd love to know how these male & female traditions came about and who drilled them into us first.

        • I did notice on the womens jacket they had some panels in the chest area sewn in. I was tempted to get one of the larger women's sizes for a man but that detailing made it look a bit sus.

        • I believe it goes back to a military thing; sword held in the right hand?
QI mentioned it in an early series.

I always thought the opposite button thing was because men most often dressed themselves, while women were dressed by someone else, so the buttons were for them to do up.

  • Remember to sign up to the VIP club, it gets 6.5% off the order, my order came to $23.25 delivered in Melbourne.

Ok checked out the Nunawading VIC store. RRP price is ridiculous. Given Aldi has rain jackets (waterproof rating 3000) for $14.00 this week I think the retail price for these should be $30 - 40. Personally wouldn't pay shipping on top for these - Was glad to see them in person and try them on. I chose not to get one in the end.

Keep in mind a jacket like this has has a 2000 Waterproof 800 Breathable Rating. What does that mean? Well as they state "Withstands light precipitation" Don't be fooled by an impressive sounding number or the word waterproof for the rating! Also that jacket can't stow the hood for some reason (d'oh). The similar women's one can. I thought the women's designs were better in general.

Interestingly it appeared online orders are filled by the stores. I was talking to a staff member picking jackets off the rack in front of me (no doubt to fill OzB orders). There wasn't much stock of each one to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if it was cleared out tonight. If they take orders without keeping separate stock then it looks to me like they'd have to subsequently cancel orders they can't fill, disappointingly customers. I wouldn't be too disappointed missing out though ;-)

    • Yeah I reckon the jacket you linked to isn't that flash when it comes to water-resistance but the Vader is heaps higher at 8000 I think? That's much better imo.

    • Several of the designs I've seen from this posting are indeed cheap & nasty, but the Vader is good (better) value and definitely worth $19.

The RRP is indeed the Ridiculous Retail Price. The Vader jacket I picked up had a price sticker for $179.99 (a discount over the $249.99 printed on the label! Next to the Australian price was printed the NZ price of $299.99. Ho, ho, ho!)

I'm sorry for anyone that paid this much for the jacket; it's clear they have more dollars than sense.
      ;)

    • Thanks for the mention of the waterproofing numbers. I'd have bought the 2000 rated one, thinking it was alright, if it weren't for your post (and Ray's poor checkout process which had me stalling for hours).

Ended up getting the Outdoor Expedition Ultimate Jacket for $23.25. Should do the job…

  • Oh man. This website is in Struggletown. I gave up on the shipping dealio and hubby is just going to pick them up tomorrow arvo. We have been in the market for a waterproof jacket and this did the trick. OP you're a legend, thank you.

  • Now that the Vader jackets seem to be sold out on the site anyone know if these are of a similar quality?

    http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Outdoor…

Seems like the next best option?

    • It's still there but only in the lime colour. Which isn't too bad imo.

      • Hm. The 2XL black Vader is still there when I look for it, but maybe that's because it's there in my local store? That's Fyshwick, ACT.

      • Oh didn't see the other colour… yeah I don't think I'd wear that one though :P

Hmmm… wonder what the others are like.

And yeah, size wise I need a med/large

      • +1

lime jacket is great for visibility when riding the bike

  • I was the one who first posted about the rain jackets and I have my really amazing rain jacket right here beside me and I think its a great purchase for $18. Don't over analyse such a good bargain. I'm off to Fraser Island next week with my better than better $18 rain jacket and my $28 Columbia hiking shoes. Don't over think it. Might as well stay home and believe the fish won't be biting.

    • The fish probably not but the Dingos for sure…..
Lucky for you, you have your $28 Dingo kicking shoes.

  • Buying these jackets is proving very difficult.

  • cannot proceed to check out.

  • Went in store tonight and they had nothing

    • I visited their Shepparton store last night and there seemed to be heaps of stuff available. Was really after the Vader jacket, but didn't know how to recognize it there! And they were just about to close, so didn't have time to ask or look around much. Anyway they seemed to have several sizes of each item still on the racks. I just hope they will still be there when I get there at lunch time today.

  • What a terrible website, Have had problems since the afternoon when I first tried to order. Its even worse now. Very poor online shopping site. Im giving ordering.

Edit, oh FINALLY got through, didnt manage to get the initial styles I wanted this afternoon when I tried, but got 2 jackets.

I bought the Wild Country Storm Shield Jacket from Rays just over a month ago when I thought it was a bargain at $50.

Good quality jacket, keeps the wind out, light weight, water resistant and keeps the water out in light rain (it's not water-proof so not sure how long it'll keep the water out in a downpour). It has a nice soft lining in the chest area, but none in the arms. You'd still need a jumper or decent base layer underneath to keep you warm.

I'm 6'2" with long arms, broad shoulders, athletic build, and have a hard time finding anything that fits. This jacket in XL fits perfectly for me.

I've seen the quality of the Outdoor Expedition Vader and I'd say it's much nicer than the Wild Country. And definitely more water resistant if that's what you're looking for. At these prices they're worth every cent.

  • Are all of these jackets RRP $250?

    • The Outdoor Expeditions Vaders are, but most of their clearance jackets are not.

  • Thanks OP. bought 2 lime vader jackets L and XL. And some wooden socks for $2! Pickup

    • +6

And some wooden socks for $2!

Wooden socks? Hope you don't get any splinters.

  • Noticed today some say INSTORE ONLY Now !
Hope they don't cancel my order
    I paid extra for shipping
    Wonder if they were ozbargained..

    • 9000 clicks in less than 24 hours … definitely ozbargained

      • I see a THANKS FOR YOUR ORDER BUT UNFORTUNATELY WE CANNOT PROCESS YOUR ORDER email coming very soon.

        • Part of my order was not available in my local store although I was able to pay for it, so they said they would refund me that portion. Bummer.

        • well my prediction has come true
          well in part at least
Spoke with TODD, said I wont get this jacket and a REFUND and Voucher will be
arranged soon. However I also order one of the other jackets and he found one for me and its on its way. These poor guys must be feeling the pressure .

I put in for pick up at my local store & received a pick up ready advise saying to pick it up at Melbourne city store.Called them and they said the local store had no stock left and Melbourne city was the next closest, As I explained that that it is an hours drive each way they said they would post it out free of charge. Good service Ray's.

  • Picked up a couple of lime jackets in Melbourne City, $19 each. Think there may be a few left. No blacks left. Otherwise a few other (cheaper) varieties available.

Even if the colour is a bit loud, you're only going to wear it when outdoors/at the footy etc.

    Great deal OP.

    • Order last nite for pickup at melb city.. lime… still no email. Did you ring them?

  • Got an email to collect my lime jackets, will pickup tonight.

  • Buying 4 jackets didn't fix my $40 delivery

  • +1

Don't hold your breath for a confirmation/phone call to advise order is ready for pickup. After a 7 minute on hold, got through to Rays- Heavily over ordered, no stock available. Senior managers 'getting a talking to', blah blah blah and other crapolla!!!!Refund could take 5-7 working days.

    • Good to know, thank you.

  • +1

Made a call to Rays online support. My order has been rejected because there is no stock and no replacement as well. I came to know my order has been rejected after I made the phone call.
If I had not made the call, I might know that my order was rejected.
So disappointed. Plan to take a proper complain on this, can anyone advise what I need to do about this?
I hope no drama on the refund!!

    • +4

can anyone advise what I need to do about this?

I suspect you don't need to do anything….. As detailed above…. refunds will be given.

Perhaps slow your breathing down a bit?

  • My order has also been canceled and they will be refunding my account, a little disappointing. They said on the phone there were over 5000 orders and it was meant to be in store only.

    • So why they made it available online?

      • +1

So why they made it available online?

Because people, like you, make mistakes.

Your mistake is not being able to deduce from damo666 reply that it was a mistake.

        • -2

"Because people, like you, make mistakes."
I dont think so and I am not sure how are you so confident about me.
Anyways, if it was a mistake, they could have stopped it earlier quickly.

        • -1

          Your grammar has mistakes.

  • Really disappointed. Another Dick Smith :((((

  • Did people really think items on sale for 93% off would be enough in quantity to not get ozbargained?

  • Ordered an Ultimate jacket Thursday night and got it delivered on Friday - worked out pretty well for me in the end.

  • has anyone been into any of the Sydney stores and can comment on stock??

  • I received a voice mail from them on Friday arvo saying it was an error that it ended up on the site, and that it was meant to be clearance only instore. But they are pooling resources together and I will get mine soon, two jackets I ordered, from two stores.

Guess I was lucky and was one of the first to order.

  • went to Castle Hill, all sold out on Thursday. No good shoes left either.

  • It's quoting me $40 shipping for 2 pairs of ladies hiking boots. No matter what I try I can't get it to change. Unfortunately they are not available at any local stores for pick-up so looks like no hiking for me.

  • Thanks OP, got mine today and it's great. Has a tag attached with "clearance price $180" on it, bargain!

  • Placed order 20 minutes after the ozbargain post on Thursday. Haven't heard anything yet as of today. They probably not going to ship the jacket and don't bother refunding the money unless you keep chasing them up, tried to call them since Friday and no answer, average wait 30 minutes and gave up, terrible.

    • yeh, i'm not confident either

  • +1

Just got off the phone with Rays Outdoor and was told my order has been cancelled :(
I was told to expect cancellation email this afternoon with a credit voucher or something attached to it.
They will be sending out 600+ cancellation emails today

    • credit voucher sounds more like a scam, so we spent $25 for a fake bargain online and have to spend the $25 credit on other products who are not on sale. Seems like a waste of money, truly not a bargain AT ALL.

      • no…. they have to give a refund…. the voucher is likely a goodwill gesture

    • Still no email :(

  • Should've gone to the store on Thursday instead of ordering online :(

    • Stock in your hand always trumps virtual stock ;-)

Even if they published this by mistake (Hmmm…) online their stock level figure should still have stopped orders automatically after reaching the limit. Their fulfillment processes are stuffed if they have to do so many refunds.

  • -4

Ordered two jackets on Thursday. Both arrived Friday afternoon. One jacket marked so had to ring customer service today. Excellent service, all jackets sold so was told to keep the marked jacket and a credit note will be issued for the purchase. More than happy. For those people who are crying 'dick smith' sale' I think its a case of the early bird will always get the worm ;)

    • +2

I wouldn't rely on the early bird theory, no guarantee they will do first in first serve. My order is 20 minutes within the deal posted and still no reply. Most people here probably ordered hours after the deal was posted. the 20 minutes is due to their website keep rejecting the order and maneuvering around the $40 shipping fee to get it down to $5.95.

    • +1

not sure if people are negging you out of envy or disbelief at the apparently excellent service you received :)

  • OzBargained strikes back.

  • just got the refund email. oh well, just make it swift

  • I ended up paying $10 for postage I decided it was better to get a deal rather than lose a deal over $5.
Probably not a true ozbarginer :)

  • +1

Just got order cancellation + $20 voucher and free freight on next order.

    • Is there a min spend on the voucher?

      • Not that i can see:
        As a way to apologise for this, we would like to give you a $20 online discount with free freight coupon for your next purchase;

        Coupon Code: OzBargain127

To use the coupon - after placing the items in your basket go to the checkout. Fill in your personal details and when you get to the ‘Promotions’ heading; enter your coupon code in the field.

        • +1

so who's going to post the code as a new deal? :)

        • I tried that code it doesnt work

        • -2

It was a custom code, which i of course changed to post here ;) I knew someone would try it muhahah

        • -1

Yeah neg me you greedy folks after trying to use my code. Im not giving away my code its once off.

        • +3

fair enough - next time just please let us know that :)

    • Mine cancelled too….

  • damn, wish I had of placed an online order now..

want to get one of these http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Bear-Gr…

  • Is it just me or does there seem to be no VIP pricing on their site now? I can't even find any reference to the VIP membership - now it has a rewards card.

  • -2

Rays should make the coupon available to all ozbargainers. I drove out to the store only to find not just rain jackets but nearly everything was sold out, just crap left and alot of full price things.

  • Placed my order online for a Lime / Fluro Green Vader jacket in Medium, only to find they didn't have stock…

In store they had 1x Large which I bought. It's too big for me. Anybody willing to swap their Lime M Vader for an L please PM me :)

  • getting page not found for most of the links??

  • Has anyone rejected the coupon + free freight and asked for a full refund?

    • +2

They're giving the coupon + free freight on top of a full refund.

      • Oh wow, that's pretty decent.

  • Just called Rays today, and says they may gonna cancel my order and send a discount voucher to me.

Thank you for shopping with Ray's Outdoors Online.

    Kind Regards,

    Ray's Outdoors

As per what email? Where is my money and voucher? I guess I won't go to Ray's outdoor again.

    • i got two emails regarding cacelation. one had the voucher

  • Does anyone have cancellations on the Merrell jackets?

    • i'm calling now to find out.

    • No stock in store and therefore… refunding orders :(

  • called Rays -
OK so in regards to the Merrell tops, I think its the same deal "over sold" however not on the same scale as theses ones. For example my order (2x mens merrel jackets and 1x ladies) they have the mens but not the ladies, which was holding up processing. They will double check that they DO have the mens stock by calling the store holding it (fingers crossed) and get back to me.

Its certainly the case that stock is plucked from the individual store shelves, most likely at the end of the day, so if someone walks in and buys of the rack, goodbye online order… not the best system to say the least.
