I find the lack of other Vader colours disturbing.

  • +1

delivery is $40 to Geelong, only good for pickups!

    • +2

If you add another jacket, apparently shipping goes down to $9 via Courier Please

      • $40 delivery to Brisbane O_O no pick up around either. Good deal though. Looks like you have to add something that's not marked down to $19-$20.

        • +6

The trick is to add 2 jackets and then calculate shipping. That will get you the Couriers please option. Then remove one item from the cart and the shipping will go down to $5.49

The above method was tested for Sydney

        • Tried this but for some reason I can only get Standard Delivery Service :( no courier option. thanks for the tip though.

  • So these jackets are available for these prices instore too?

    • yes, plus you can buy online and pickup in store

      • wow thanks. these deals are fairly incredible.

    • +1

Yes I bought the ladies jacket this morning at the Camperdown store. $18. There is a separate posting I did for that. I spent about $107 for 2 pairs Columbia hiking shoes and 3 different jackets for a total RRP of over $850. Not that I or anyone should ever pay full price (RRP) at a camping store.

    • I don't think it is available online anymore. Most online orders are being cancelled.

  • +1

target are flogging off $4 raincoats http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102875 . while they won't be as durable as these jackets, they are good for packing away for in your bag for rainy days.

  • I posted the ladies jacket deal already on this site. I don't have time to post but the hiking shoes are also especially cheap. Especially the ladies shoes. Worth checking out. I got two pairs of Columbias for $28 dollars each at the Camperdown Sydney store this morning.

    • hi jane can you tell me what the sizing's like for ladies?

      • +1

I only just got home but I can suggest a size larger for the rain jacket and with the hiking boots you can go down a bit. I bought a size up on the jacket and I bought a 9 and a 10 in the columbias. Strange but with the womens jacket go a little bigger if you can.

  • Are these actually good quality?? might check them out in store

    • I can't vouch for my OEX ladies jacket out in the elements, as I only bought it this morning but it ticks all the boxes for me. Waterproof, breathable, lightweight and sealed seams. If anything it impressed me more when I saw it in the store than the picture and details on the website.

  • $40 delivery to country vic, chose pickup but all the stores said insufficient stock =\

    • Try this (Ive tested it for Sydney and it works):

The trick is to add 2 jackets and then calculate shipping. That will get you the Couriers please option. >Then remove one item from the cart and the shipping will go down to $5.49

  • +1

the vader is listed as mens, and yet the flap/closure to the left looks like it's for ladies?

  • Thanks OP, great deal!

  • can anyone suggest some good snow jackets. i am going up to mount buller next week and looking around some warm but cheap snow jackets

    • Not much snow at the moment…10cm

    • You could always drop by Aldi and see if there are any leftovers from their ski sale. There was some stuff in Canberra last week still floating around.

Rays has some pretty reasonable deals on the shimano raider rods and shimano baitcasters (cheaper than anywhere else on line) if anyone is looking for those

  • Will these keep you warm as well in winter (i.e. no need for a sweater underneath)?

    • They look like shells with no insulation (most rain jackets are for breathability)

    • Depends what you get. Many are just outershells, so need a polo probably. Depends if your winter is 10 degrees or -5.
Feels like this site is under extremem load.

    • What can we help with? That's lack of attention on your behalf. We are not admins, or store reps. Contact the store.

  • +2

hey can anyone tell me where the size guide is please?

  • +5

    Such a poorly built website!

    • Even the order confirmation .pdf cannot be opened. It says corrupted.

      • Download then open with PDF reader..Worked for me.

    • everything works so far

      better than some others

  • Has anyone been to an of the shops and seen the stock level?

I'm a few blocks away from the Melbourne store, tempted to duck up there quickly if it's worthwhile.

    • Maribyrnong store has only 3 or 4 of the styles available on the website. Several units of each style visible. Store didn't get around to pricing them $19 yet, so you have to ask if you don't make note of which one you're after.

      Hope that helps.

  • Took a while, but I was finally able to place an order for the Vader jacket.

Purchased this jacket today, nice fit, performed well in light rain and some heavy rain for a short period. The price was even better, tag said $249, I paid just $72

that was april, looks like you scored

    • It took me a while too to order it

looks like site is getting ozbargained very slowly

  • I am in Mebourne CBD and they are charging me $40 for delivery :(

    • Without going into detail. Read above for the workaround ;)

      • I did the above, ordered 2 jackets but still charges me $40. There was no option for Couriers Please on the drop down box. I might just go to the store after work, thanks anyway.

        • I had the same; it appeared when I added 3 jackets though - not sure if it's a glitch.. the whole website is pretty slow

        • I tried your method and it worked but now stuck on payment page. *sigh
The website is hopeless, I give up

    • i got the 5.49 on 1 item w/o needing any workarounds though

      could be on item basis,

but i decided to PU at nunawading since ill be passing by

  • No sizing guide?

  • I was hunting around Amazon earlier in the year for a reasonably-priced rainjacket without much luck. This post is full of win.

  • great so if you see it in real life after picking it up and going 'this is hideous and sucks big time' … you don't get a refund.

  • +1

I give up, the website is cactus and I can't get the shipping trick to work, my suburb is $40 regardless of how many jackets I have in my cart.

  • +1

I don't know whether to get this. I went instore but nothing there to try on. The types they did have where very thin. If you buy online, rays don't allow you to return the jacket if you change your mind.

  • +2

RRP $249 is a lot. Where are they made?

    • +2

      China.
Original RRP is always pulled out of one's posterior, whether shopping Amazon, Ray's or Coles & Woolies or countless other stores. It can safely be laughed at.

      • +2

        To wit - Kathmandu

  • Excellent. Vader and Utopia jackets $47 delivered.

Will be nice for those wet walks :)

  • Got 7.76 delivery cost for one jacket to Sydney. Came up as $40 originally so I changed it up to 3 jackets, left the cart, changed it back to 1 and then went back into the cart and was $7.76. Might help others (website is a mess though).

    • No matter what I tried, it wouldn't work for me.

  • Can't find a sizing chart. Anybody else find one?

    • Nope

      • I wonder if anybody here has purchased before, and could possibly vouch for sizing? oO

  • I noticed Rays Outdoors had some pretty serious clearances when i went in yesterday, looks like catch of the day did too.

  • Are they really down from $249??

I added 2 items to my cart freight worked out $40 still to Adelaide.

  • +2

That was ridiculous. Have been trying to buy a jacket for the last half an hour and have now given up. what sort of company has an online business where you can't buy anything.

  • Which ones come with the hood???

  • what size are you guys getting. ive found with these things you should get one size larger

    • I'd assume (hope) that rain jackets at this price are designed slightly bigger than a shirt of the same size, as they have to fit over whatever you're already wearing. I'm a small for most tees and Ben Sherman/YD long sleeved shirts, so I grabbed a small rain jacket. But who knows… shrugs

    • can always pass around as gifts to family if it doesn't work out

most important thing is it didn't burn your wallet :p

    • +1

Just got back from Camperdown store. Plenty of stock still there. Got a couple of the Vader jackets $19. I am borderline L/ XL and the XL fit me well (they are outer shells, so need space for underlayers). Wife got 2 Asha jackets and slightly smaller sizing was OK for her. There is some Columbia jackets there too for $30-40. Cheap womens hiking shoes too ($19, down from $149). Also some $5 King Gee drill pants/ shorts (larger sizes). Awesome prices. Thanks OP.

  • Just got back from Rays at Castle Hill, picked up a Columbia Raintech with the new fancy thermo lining for $27.10 after VIP discount. Some good stuff still left at the CH store.

  • Just got my order through a few minutes ago so while checkout is slow it's still working.

Also there seems to be an extra 6.5% discount on the store for 'vip members' which I think you just have to sign up for when making an account (and claims to be free). May have to sign up for an account before putting an order through though.

And if you upvote this deal you may as upvote http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109174 while you're at it. :)

  • Thanks for the deal. perfect timing to replace my old gear full of holes.

  • Gawd damn I love this site

  • +3

$2 for wool socks seems good. ($1.87 for vips)

    $8 to be a ninja

or whatever the hell that is
    http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Outdoor…

water proof kids gloves and beanies around the $5 mark too.

  • I tried some outdoor expedition gear on for size at the local rays and I'll add here that in my opinion the sizes run a little large. I'm usually medium but a small was what fit.

They didn't have any of the $19 stuff in store, they told me that this is last seasons. The stuff I tried for size was current season but I would assume sizing would be the same.

  • 40 dollar shipping is solid, the trick probably was fixed. Hope someone can correct me :S

    • I'm wrong, trick worked, thanks heaps op! :)

    • I've added 2 jackets (1 for me, 1 for the Mrs) and only option is $40 delivery for Sydney.

      • Well i tried it at 5:30 ish, the 40 dollars kept coming back so I gave up after 30 minutes of trying. Came back at 7 ish and tried again and bam it worked, like the op posted, place 2 random jackets, take one out and it comes down. I purchased 3 jackets for the family and it came to 10ish courier shipping which was alright i guess. Just remember to use two different types of jackets and try it a few times, try quantity of 1, 2 and 3 and hope for the best! :)

  • +1

holy shit, their checkout is by far the worst UI i've seen.

  • Just got a few vadar jackets at my local for $15.95 with VIP card. The sizing is a little larger than usual, I suppose to fit over jumpers/jackets that your already wearing.
My tip, get the size you normally buy

  • Just went to the Balcatta store in WA (reasonable amount of stock, could see quite a few things from the website). My partner got this: http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Outdoor… and I picked up some ski pants for the same price.

    Thanks for the post!

  • +1

The checkout is the same system that BCF use and I have noticed you can fiddle with the shipping charges on the BCF website too (getting it from 40 dollars down to 4 dollars).

The trick with the BCF website is to buy through an account. Log in, and instead of going to "calculate delivery charge" change the address in the prefilled area. I have found that sometimes I have to throw in another address to get the $ value to change (i.e changing address from QLD to NSW), but it doesn't recalculate back to $40 when you re-enter your proper address.

Hope this helps, I'm trying to test it but checkout is slow.

    • +4

The checkout is the same system that BCF use

They're owned by the same company, the Super Retail Group.

They also own: Amart Allsports, FCO, Goldcross Cycles, Supercheap Auto, and Rebel Sport.

  • I ordered a jacket through my phone and the delivery is $5.49.
    Thanks OP!!

    • Will do the same thing. Thanks OP..

  • Sizing.

I found the XL 'Vader' jacket fits me fine with a couple of shirts underneath it. It's not super-huge at all - like some XL items can be - unless I am? :)

Just fits me comfortably; easy and comfortable arm movement without making the seams of the jacket burst. Plus some extra space for you to put on something thicker under the jacket too.

If you are a fully-grown normal-sized male who is reasonably (but not excessively) tall and of average weight, I'd say the XL size is the go. Of course you should try it out in a store first if you're not sure. XL size isn't anything super-huge, in my opinion.

    :)

  • Ok, after fiddling around and trying the various 'tricks' here to no avail…
Made an account, added stuff to cart, only shipping option is "Standard Delivery Service", pressed continue checkout, now showing as $10 shipping to Adelaide. What a clusterfudge of a website/checkout system :|

  • for those whove seen the vader jacket in store, is the flap on the same side as in the picture?

    • +1

Flap that covers the zip closes from the wearer's right side towrds the left side in both black & lime versions of the jacket.

It is fastened with 5 rectangles of velcro from top to bottom.

Regarding the black jacket; those reinforced bits at the shoulders and sleeves show up a browny colour on my monitor. It is in fact dark black of the same colour but a slightly different texture to the rest of the jacket. No big difference.

The triangular design motif around the breast pocket is actually just a shiny black rather than the vivid or contrasty triangle as shown on the website. It seems to show it at a reflective angle on the website when it's in fact more understated at most angles. It's much darker black that blends in with the jacket's colour far more closely. The brand is barely noticeable, which I personally like. That triangular motif is barely noticeable, just as I like it too.

Hood is removable and adjustable with string for a tighter fit. As is the bottom of the jacket and of course the sleeves are fastened with velcro to keep air out.

      • I think he was asking because in that picture, flap opening on that side is for women's clothing whereas for men it's the opposite. In this case it's the reverse but the description says it's for men.
