The Supreme blade looks a lot like the blade that Aldi sell for $6 per pack of 4. Looking at one here now and it actually looks absolutely identical, apart from the price of course.

Here is a crappy photo I just took in bad lighting of a used blade, couldn't get the focus any better but it's good enough to see that they look pretty much the same.

    • The blade itself is of a much higher grade. Not every blade is the same.

      • +1

Proof? I get more shaves out of these Aldi ones than I do a Gillette so I'm going to need more than than that I'm afraid.

        • It is a blade sourced from a 'brand name' factory as opposed to the place where aldi sources their blades.

        • +4

Oh well that's cleared that up then.

Unless you have your blades made exclusively for your business by a locked down factory that sells to absolutely no one else, they're just the same mass produced stuff most likely available from many places. I think Coles have a "home brand" razor which also looks much the same as this and the Adli one, wouldn't be at all surprised to find out all three are absolutely identical.

Here is the coles one, looks rather familiar.

          70% off the Coles prices

Aldi and Coles ones are $1.50 each, yours are $3.33 each. Seems to me your blade is actually 222% the price of the Coles one despite the ridiculous claim above.

          This is a bargain how?

        • They heads may look similar but the quality of the razor blade is better.

        • +1

Sorry rep but all I see here is that you sell "no brand", "brand quality" razors where Aldi at least has a brand on the package! I have no intention to offend your products but If you claim you are better than Aldi at least you should provide enough proof and not just a comment!

        • +4

They heads may look similar but the quality of the razor blade is better.

Let's just say you're right (you're more than likely not, but lets say you are) - are they 222% better?

We've got pretty finely tuned BS detectors around here and mine is going off full blast over your claims / "bargain".

        • +1

Coming from the same factory doesn't mean it's made of the same quality as the brand name.

        • +1

While I don't consider TT and their ilk to be terribly reputable sources, they'll have to do in this case.

The OP makes the claim "sourced from a 'brand name' factory as opposed to the place where aldi sources their blades", so they're the ones with something to prove here.

In the TT video, three out of three users of the 5 blade Aussieshave cartridge carve themselves up pretty badly, something I only ever have occur when I use really cheap and nasty blades or I make maneuvering errors. I even have some Mach3 "compatible" blades here that I paid next to nothing for from buyincoins some time back and they've never cut me. Sadly they don't last for more than 5 or so shaves but give a remarkably good shave the first few times, rather surprising given where they came from and how much I paid for them.

Back to the TT video, the electron microscope images of the blades is very telling along with the "fact" they are 50% thinner than the name brand blade. If they are indeed from an OEM factory as the OP claims, it looks like they're really winding back the QC when manufacturing the blades to sell to Aussieshave. They can claim whatever they like but seeing how badly each of those blokes cut themselves up is more than enough proof they aren't the same or even close to the genuine blades.

I've not tried the Coles blade I linked to somewhere above, but I'd expect it to be on par if not absolutely identical to the Aldi one, even the packaging looks the same. I know I'm a bleeder when it comes to crappy blades, looking at the TT results (3/3 cut up pretty badly) along with my own experience with the Aldi blade, I almost have to conclude that the Aldi (and possibly Coles) blades are quite possibly BETTER quality than the Aussieshave one. Until I try an AS blade though, I of course can't be certain of this.

Choice have an article online (subscriber only) comparing blades, would be nice if they added the AS, Aldi and Coles and any others that have cropped up since.

It's 5AM, hope the above is coherent.

Foobar - email us at aussieshave.com and we can organise for you to test the blades for yourself. No risk.

      • +1

Are you offering a free sample to all Ozbargain users?
If sop contact details would be appreciated.

      • +8

Better idea - how about you go purchase a box of the Aldi and Coles blades I linked to above along with whatever other brands you wish to include and have them ALL independently tested by a reputable agency along with your own blades?

Publish the results on your site as I'm sure every potential customer will be most interested and it'll put any doubt to rest, one way or another.

BTW - I'm not after a freebie or a sample, never even crossed my mind. My only interest is value for money and your product at 222% the cost of similar (identical?) offerings just doesn't stand up.

Edit: As it turns out, your blades have been compared to the name brands and the results are pretty poor

I personally use discounted Gillette razors(from ozbargain deals) and a Razorpit and they last forever!
@rep: are your razors made in Australia? Cause if not part of the profit does go overses :)
Don't get me wrong, but if i can get 4 gillette fusion razors for $10-11(from ozb deals) why should i choose your supreme "brand quality" knock-offs for $9.99 for 3 razors?

  • +3

LOL. I read that URL and thought "What do Aussies have?"

  • +6

    Forget rubbish cartridge razors.
Take up Double edge shaving and you'll never look back.

    • +2

About 30 cents a blade for DE!

    • What are the advantages of double edge shaving exactly?

I took a look on ebay and the merkur classic 34C costs $65.

      Really?

People always complain that catridges cost $1.50, but they are fine with buying what is essentially a fancy razor handle for $65?

      • +2

There are many advantages of using DE, blades cost from 7 cents to 20 cents per blade for most blades, and provide a cleaner and closer shave without ingrown hairs, they are more environmentally friendly, and that $65 for the Merkur Classic is a one off cost, it will last many years, some razors have been handed down and are still in daily use 100 years later. The 34C is also cheaper here http://www.connaughtshaving.com/merkur34c.html at around $40. You can also buy cheaper razors that are also good, such as the Merkur 1904 which is about $25

Most people with DE enjoy the shave each morning.

There are also many different DE blades that fit all DE razors, so buying a different blade can give a different result and as each person is different you can find a blade that suits you, rather than the ways blades are marketed these days as one blade suits all.

      • +1

This is the one I have from Amazon:
        http://www.amazon.com/Edwin-Jagger-De86bl-Double-Safety/dp/B…

        AUD$44 Shipped.

As already mentioned, it is only a once off cost. It will last a lifetime. Its made of solid metal so it has some weight behind it when you shave unlike the cheap plastic cartridge razors.

Then all you need to do is just buy the replacement blades off ebay for around 10 cents each.

        • The Edwin Jagger is a very well made razor, and is my go to razor. The Muhle is also a partnership with Edwin Jagger, also very well constructed razors.

Forgot to mention above, its not just the blades where there is choice, its also razors, there are many different razors and they work different on different people. There are also razors that are adjustable, so you can spend a lot of time on multiple combinations of razors, settings and blades.

For testing DE, there is a low cost razor called Silver Tone, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silver-Tone-Double-Edge-Blade-Raz… for $4 posted and it has some very good reviews on Amazon, probably a much better every day deal than this Aussieshave deal. Some sample blades can be purchased cheaply.

DE much cheaper and better than this $4 cartridge. I recently had to use a Mach3 for a day and it was aweful.

Why didnt ACA/TT do a real program on a real blade? Must be sponsored.

  • Hi Aussie Shaver Man,
Do you have any plan to offer bulk buys or gift vouchers?

    • Send us an email and we can sort you out with a bulk buy.

  • one more question for the rep:
https://au.dollarshaveclub.com/ claims their razors are better and they have same prices as you! What makes your razors a bargain(or you are part of the same business)? We all know all these boxes in the background of your today tonight video came from China :)

  • +3

Its 100% aussie owned so profits don’t go overseas.

I'm really starting to dislike that statement. I read it as "don't save money by buying these products directly from an overseas producer/seller, but let us charge more so that we make a profit."

I'd be happy to buy from an Aussie Owned business that produces their product in australia. not just a middle man.

    and it is "it's"

Watch this Today Tonight razor test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqi5PMRpEb0. I'm not surprised the rep didn't link to this one because rather than PR that "sounds nice", this was a proper test that showed their products to be inferior.

Summary of results in comparison to "brand name" razors:

Aussie Shave less smooth, more prone to facial cuts

Examination under microscope showed the blades in the aussie shave are 50% thinner than the brand names

    • Watch this Today Tonight razor test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqi5PMRpEb0

An interesting watch and the microscope results are quite revealing. Gee I wonder why the rep omitted this story / review :)

I'm a nicker / bleeder when it comes to shaving and while the Aldi blade has got me a couple of times, it was very minor and never anything like what that story depicts the Aussieshave cartridge doing. Most of the time it's my fault, when I go under the ear I tend to move the blade the wrong way and give myself a nice little superficial slice or five.

For all three testers to cut themselves up like that is pretty poor, and that's the "premium" blade doing that too - makes you wonder what the others are like.

  • +3

if people want to save money shaving look into Double edged razors. Much cheaper and a much easier shave. This is not a deal.

    • Ok….I give in…. What is so good about double edged razors ? They look the same as my old man used back in the '60s.

      • +3

They look the same as my old man used back in the '60s.

They are the same…. there's been a bit of a resurgence in DE shaving over the past few years, breeding similar elitism and snobbery akin to golf/torch/watch communities that one sees popping up on the net.
There are a number of web forums where one can discuss one's badger testicle-haired shaving brush and pre-war shaver technique until the cows come home. One can scoff at 'lower' men using disposable or electric shavers, or if there are none around, scoff at people using badger testicle-hair brushes from older badgers, or badgers from another part of the country.
It has also spawned a number of websites selling very expensive shaving equipment and magical balms to cater for the snobbery….
You could probably flog off your dad's stuff for a fortune…..
It's all different strokes for different folks….. Do whatever is comfortable for you…… I've shaved a lot in my life…. and tried em all….
I'm hoping we go back to 'sharp stones'…. now that's cheap…. and for real men….

        • Nahhhh…… a blunt axe will do for me. A real man's razor !!

  • I'm a shaving aficionado for about a decade in a half, got about 2 dozen shaving brushes, years old unopened shaving soaps, dozen or so razors, and proficient with straight razor shaving (and ironically I've been wearing a beard for the last two years) and you don't need to go DE to get a quality shave.. look at your PRE-shave and POST-shave regiment if you even have one and research stuff in that area while still using your multi bladed razor. You can cut yourself pretty badly with a DE if your not careful and your face is not properly hydrated! And you can scar yourself permanently.. not trying to scare monger.. but if you are a lifelong multi bladed user then you can dramatically improve the quality of your shave and skin overall by using correct cleaners, shaving soaps or creams, and post shave accessories. A DE is superior to any multi bladed razor all things being equal but its not the only factor.

P.S. As another user mentioned.. I've heard good things about the 'Razor Pit' http://www.razorpit.com/ (no affiliation)

    Rep : Some tips.

1.You are making the claim your products are as good as the name brand shavers, but cheaper. You are being challenged to prove this claim. If you are unable to prove claims, do not make such claims in the first place. Right now it looks like you are avoiding anyone who is asking for proof of your claim.

2.People have posted a negative review of your blades. You need to find some way to address the claims in the review. Not doing so makes it look like you are hiding and hoping the storm dies down.

  • Have a look at this - apparently it works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ADaRIqy0Dc

    • I've tried this method and can't say I noticed anything, arm may be too hairy. I've also tried denim as per another video I saw but all that seemed to do was tear apart the rubber bits on the cartridge. I plan to try a leather belt at some point, being a bit more careful than I was with the denim.

Might end up investing in a razorpit if all else fails.
