Ray's Outdoors - Decline Order on their Rain Jackets...

Last week there was a great deal on
Outdoor Expedition Men's Rain Jackets $19 @ Rays Outdoors RRP $249 + More Cheap Random Items

I ordered 3 jackets and a few other random Outdoor Expedition items.

Received an email this morning from Rays saying that my order had been cancelled and given a $20 voucher…

Won't be ordering from Ray's Outdoors anymore. I wonder how many other Ozbargainers this happened too.

  • same story with my order for a backpack

Was there supposed to be a sentence in between stating 'following reasons'?

  • i just noticed standard shipping is $40. that's very expensive

You are joking right? It would be dismissed by the Small Debts Court even if it made it past the Registry, which I doubt it would. What monetary damage did you sustain? And don't say my time. That won't fly.

they reserve the right to cancel the contract. assuming they refunded your money, they have not broken the law and it would be a waste of time taking it any further.

It ain't that simple Weezle. If they made offers they knew, or should have known they couldn't deliver, then they have indeed broken the law. On the other hand they may have had a reasonable amount of stock but simply underestimated the demand, although you'd expect selling a common item at less than a tenth of its supposed price would result in high demand. Agree with your last statement though, and they did the right thing by giving him a voucher anyway.

        • Doesn't work like that. Depends on when offer and acceptance occurs. Most online stores for this reason state in their T&C that acceptance of a contract is at the time of dispatch not when they take your money.

    What exactly is your gripe?

As in if they cancel my order, because I probably spent about.. 40 minutes of my life trying to put the order through their crappy system..

Approach Slater & Gordon to sue them for your 40 minutes time and see what they think.

      • Or move to 'Murica.

If you spent 40 minutes trying to shave a few dollars off a raincoat, you're not using them productively in the first place. Your time is not some precious thing someone else needs to reimburse you for. Exactly what damages did you suffer? What a soft generation.

I just saw an email from yesterday from them.

Unfortunately the products you have ordered have sold out and we are unable to supply your order. We sincerely apologise for this and any inconvenience this may have caused. I will arrange to refund your order, please note if you paid by credit card it may take between 1-5 business days to clear depending on your financial institution.

As a way to apologise for this, we would like to give you a $20 online discount with free freight coupon for your next purchase

Bummer I didnt get the items, but they were nice by offering the store credit.

    • i ordered something different but i'm half-expecting that to be cancelled as well

      • I ordered 3 different items (raincoat was one) and it seems they cancelled the whole order :(

  • I went into my local store today (Hoppers Crossing, VIC) and they had about 5 left in only one design.

    I got a cancellation also
I expected it as I realised the site had been OZ BARGAINED

When I spoke with them about my order they said they had orders for 10 or more jackets at a time
Maybe if some of our fellow members were not so greedy then some of us may have got our orders completely fulfilled

These guys would have had a 1000% increase with there online orders, I doubt they were expecting that

They are refunding the money , what more we deserve

There were 12786 clicks for a clearance of limited number of store brand rain jackets! I don't think any business would expect that much interest when there would have been little available stock.

There were comments at the time about the online order system not handling the demand. As with many clearance deals, some people were going to miss out & stock system probably was inaccurate or unable to handle amount of orders at same time.

Pretty good of them to give $20 vouchers, but some will still be disappointed.

As for taking legal action… good luck as consumer law will not help much in a situation like this. The business will simply say it was an unfortunate error in the online order system.

There was stock, but not enough to meet unexpected demand, and company made unprompted offer to compensate.

State consumer offices are usually short on funds & probably will not offer assistance as payment has been promptly refunded and compensation paid. They could do no more than that in my experience.

Costs of taking the cheapest possible action will probably be larger than any settlement, and complaining that you lost 40 minutes of your life, while taking far more than that getting retribution…

[I have taken on a business for refusal to supply a service. The legal advice I was given was that there was no real cost nor hardship caused by refusal, and I had not even paid for the service. I took on the case without legal assistance & won a sizable out of court settlement after nearly a year of legal wrangling. But I did not use consumer legislation to win in a consumer issue - I would not have had a chance under it. I proved the refusal was discriminatory. I was given support for my case by a state department as it was an interesting test case. My approach set a precident for others to follow, despite not being tested in court.]

the good ol' discrimination trick :)

      • Easy to claim, much harder to prove as a good old white boy from Queensland :-)

[You need to know if you should, how to, & where to fight your battles - using whatever legislation works. I won my case as I proved I had been refused service due to my nationality - Australian!
Under Federal law, discrimination based on nationality is lawful, but some states have legislated against it. And my case was more complex as it involved the less well legally tested area of indirect discrimination. Before my win, the opinion was a case like mine would not succeed.]

  • Yeah I was pretty disappointed to see that cancellation email come through as my hubby really needs a jacket like that at the moment so I was jazzed to get a good one so cheap.

When I was ordering there weren't any problems with the site, I think I ordered after the site had been hit with the tsunami of ozbargainers - so you'd think they would have had a chance to react and update their stock numbers by then!

  • After being disappointed the first time ordering the jackets. I ordered hiking shoes and some socks. According to their online website i Made sure there was stock at fountain gate for pick up. Didn't receive an SMS for pick up so I called and was told its been sent back as they didn't have enough stock. Great.. Very disappointed with rays.

  • with my $20 voucher i ordered two pair of safety shoes http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/online-store/products/Wild-Co… . works out to $9.50/pair delivered. i just received them today by dhl. but yeah, without free shipping $40 is very steep for delivery

  • i got mine in no time.

  • Does anyone have a $20 off coupon they don't want?

  • Make sure you get your money back, because these pricks still havent refudned mine after 7 days

    • Me either, so I emailed them and got a reply saying:

"We apologise for the delay regarding the refund of your order. As we are systematically going through and refunding to ensure no one is missed, it does take some time. Please be assured we will process your refund as soon as we possibly can."

This was on the 18/7/2013, two weeks later still nothing. Time for another email.

  • I never got the order cancellation email nor the $20 voucher. Called them up twice, first call was told to wait fir the email. 2nd call (2 weeks later) was told will not be getting any voucher because my order was in a different system and no money was ever taken out of my credit card :(

  • Haven't got my money back yet

Called them today and they are looking into it

I really dont know why retailers take such a long time to refund.

Im also still waiting for my refund from tech4u from this deal. Ive sent them 3 emails so far.
