    • good point

should be $12 with startrack for most places

PCCG also charge a 2% credit card processing fee which comes to an extra $10.46, and if you want your package to have insurance you have to pay yet another $9.98 fee.

      • To be fair MSY also charge a CC fee.

personally i think this deal is better.

I do agree with the extra $30 for Aussie stock for warranty etc. Would be perfect if something did happen to go wrong.

  • OZ stock?

    • I would assume so. PCCG is a pretty big online retailer and would be able to compete with MSY to get local stock at a decent price

that said, I don't know for sure. Never got grey imports of PC gear from the many orders I have with them.

    • I'd like to know too! I've tried calling and emailing them but no answer.

    • PCCG sells plenty of grey stock. For instance they're not an authorised distributor for most of the headphones in their store.

Since nothing on the page mentions otherwise I would assume that this is grey stock.

  • I just bought a $300 LG optimus 4x HD… why do I feel like I need to upgrade now?

    • Because this is OzBargain

        Because it is Marketing.

        • i dont understand why people keep changing smartphones like underwear.

        • +1

I change smart phones more than underwear…

    • buy this one next year for $150? You wont feel so bad.

    • Are you crazy? That phone is fine.

      This is called wanton materialism.

    • Where did you manage to pick up the phone for $300? I've been contemplating that phone for a cheap buy. Is it a good phone?

      • You can buy it from either Kogan or NoWorries. Grey import from either Hong Kong or Taiwan (I got shipped an European model)

It's a pretty decent phone for 300. My main gripe with it is that the stock Jelly Bean rom is a bit laggy, the camera doesn't do very well in low light (driver issue) and Usb Otg doesn't seem to work under JB.

It also runs Tegra3 (40nm) so you can also expect the phone to heat up a bit when playing games.

  • Tax invoice?

    • PCCG is an Aussie company - so tax invoice has ABN

They stick a paper one in with the order

I have set $150 as my budget for a smart phone. They are pretty good for my uses at this point.

    • Fair few decent models for that price.

  • Do these PC stores sell other phones too? Like Galaxy S4.

      Why don't you have a look…

Shame the phone has such a rubbish battery life and is unnecessarily big, or it'd be as close to perfect as a smartphone can get.

    • It's not really any bigger than the S4 and HTC One that it directly competes with. But yes battery life is rubbish and Sony recognise this and so provide battery saving settings inbuilt should you wish to use them. That said, pretty much all phones in this class will need to be charged daily for most users.

There ain't no such thing as a perfect smartphone.

      • I saw a round up of all the top smartphones, and this one's battery life actually was rated good, and above S4, One, and iPhone 5 which were all on par with one another.

        • Not saying you're lying, but would you mind linking this round-up?

If the Xperia Z can rival the HTC One in battery life, then I would be very interested in buying it.

However, from the tests GSMArena have done, they found the Z to get about 4.5 hours less in video playback and almost 3.5 hours less in web browsing.

They did this test without Stamina enabled on the Z, so they may have gimped the Z's results. However, from what I understand of Stamina, I would not think it'd help much in either of those tests.

        • It was from a print magazine, so no link.

They have some kind of 24 hour test, which does the same thing on all phones, and then check the battery life remaining after that. The trio of One, S4, and iP5 had 60% remaining, while the Z had a respectable amount more than that. They also tested real world usages through other apps (to drain the battery) and it was ahead there also.

Battery life was actually one of its best features.

They rated the One as the best phone overall however.

Hmm, negative votes for pointing out some flaws of this device? I guess there are a few butthurt Xperia Z owners in our midst. To be expected, I suppose.

One could argue that "too big" is opinion rather than fact (I personally don't know why I'd want a mini-tablet in my pocket…), however, it cannot be denied that the Xperia Z has quite poor battery performance, when surfing the web and watching video (or I guess, anything which requires the screen to be on).

    • I've had one since they were released (actually, before the Australian release). So I think I can comment on size and battery life, at least in my experience. Coming from a S2, the phone is quite a lot larger - but as I do a lot of email and reading, the screen size and resolution is actually something I've come to like rather than loathe. In terms of battery life, I am a moderate rather than super heavy user but I still easily make $600 or more worth of calls each month (Telstra) and almost get through my data cap. I have stamina mode on but leave gmail as an exception. Despite this I don't run out of battery in an average working day, although when I am doing 14+ hours I might get down to 30% or so. (By the way, I can't tell you how much I like LTE!)

  • mine's battery lasts up to 2 days and i surf the net quite a lot. videos drain it substantially though. but for day to day use, stamina mode makes a ton of difference. duration is drastically better than my old s2.

  • sold out

  • Anyone work out if they were Aus manufacturer warranty or grey? Just curious.

    • Yeh, I emailed their support team. it was Aus stock, unbranded. Was waiting on that info to purchase, but I missed out.
