  • If you're waiting for new iPhone, save yourself $500 and get this phone instead. Having said that, I still think my Galaxy Nexus is far superior to this phone. The difference in screen on the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 4 is crazy. Nexus 4 is grey and fades if not looked at straight angles, whereas my GN can be looked at from any angle.

    • -4

Do you suffer from side eye?

      • +5

        what does that even mean…

        • +2

Well, side boob is when you see a bit of boob poking out from a slinky dress etc, so maybe if your eyes are too big for their sockets you get the eyeball poking out = side eye.

    • +4

You do realise the GN has a pentile display that's vastly inferior to the Nexus 4 display? Reviewers consistently peg it as one of the best displays on the market prior to the 1080p influx in terms of quality and colour reproduction.
Aside from the AMOLED vs LCD debate, the GN, while good for its time, is outclassed in every area by this phone.

      • Well I've actually got both side by side and the SAMOLED in the GN is far superior than the LCD which becomes washed out when looked at any other angle. I'm not saying the Nexus is a bad phone and I agree it is outclassed in other aspects, its just the screen that is the let down IMO which is preventing me from upgrading as to me the screen quality is more important than speed etc, considering I don't even experience slowdown or play high graphic games.

    • +5

Superseded technology being marked down means it was over priced to being with? Idiot.

  • Fantastic price!!!
As per reports, Motorola has already started production of the Nexus 5.. But rumours were that it would be available by Thanks Giving…

    • After the Moto X disappointment (mid-range specs at a high price) I am not holding my breath for anything coming from them…

      • Teri, I think you need to understand a little more about the phone before you make those judgments. The Moto X according to reviewers is one of the smoothest and all round best smartphones there is.

It isn't about specs these days.

  • Very good price for this phone. A few people i know have it. Tempted to get it for the gf to convert her to android.. :)

  • +2

    bought one
upgrade from iphone4 to this .
hopefully i like it (fingers crossed)
    thanks

    • Well done. Better specs, great price, pure android. Couldn't really ask for more.

    • Same here, now selling my iphone 4, should be a worthwhile upgrade.

  • Is it just me or does this phone look kinda cheap? Looks cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy line, atleast the Samsung has removable battery. Great price for something quite powerful, very tempted… Hmmm

    • +7

Nothing looks cheaper than the Galaxy line lol. I think this looks awesome and has a very premium feel to it.

    • +1

      It's just you.

  • How is the battery on this. Can i get two days with light to moderate use?

No fm radio is also a minus for me.

    • I can get 2 days with light use. Certain things will drain the battery really quick though, like using it as a GPS navigation device, playing games etc.

  • Love my Nexus 4. It is beautiful. Only thing I can fault it on is battery life and a terrible camera. iphone4 camera dominates this.

Was ready to buy an HTC One (best smartphone ever made) this week, but may wait to see what happens.

    • i have a nexus 4 (great phone) just replaced it with the HTC one, have not looked back since!

  • epic deal

  • Does it comes with a 12 months international warranty?

How come no one mention this is a grey import?

    • +11

      Because it is not…

  • The S2 I have spare batteries I keep charged and swap in if needed. The Nexus 4 battery doesn't look like this would be recommended. Anyone confirm?

    • +1

      Correct, the battery is nonremovable.

  • This phone is not better than Galaxy S3 according to the spec.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5048&idPhone2=…

    • +7

      Which spec in particular?
      Nexus 4 has:
      Better CPU
      Slightly more pixels
      Double the ram
      Faster HSDPA
      Newer android.

      S3 has:
      SD card support
      Removable battery.

      Everything else is near identical.

      • I can't use any phone without SD card support and removable battery. This phone is not for me.

        • +6

Just because the phone is not for you doesn't make it "not better than Galaxy S3"

      • +4

        Also a much better gpu.

  • amazing deal! too bad i have an iphone…..

    • +10

This is distressing news. I even hear people willingly inflict this situation upon themselves.

    • Too bad I have a HTC One, it I would be jumping on this

  • Is anyone having trouble getting the play store to change region? Mine is stuck on US and I can't figure out how to change details for Aus.
US is the only shipping option for me right now.

  • Hmm weird, the N4 is sold out at Harvey Norman, but "Stock Expected Late September!". So… maybe the price drop is to piss Apple off, rather than it being discontinued?

  • If it's rooted do OTA updates still work?

    • Yes if you have stock recovery still, but you'll lose root and have to reinstall supersu. Otherwise it's easy enough to self install the update if you have already rooted your phone.

      • -1

So updates wipe CWM? So much for Google being tweaker friendly?

        • root =/ CWM
You can have root access with stock recovery.
But when an autoupdate happens you will have to re-root.

        • No, but OTA update fails if you have CWM as your recovery as it should. If you have a custom recovery you'll need to manually update, just copy the file from your cache directory, unroot and install the package in CWM/TWP.
This process hasn't really changed for the nexus line.

        • -1

I am well aware of what CWM is.

I see no reason why OTA updates shouldn't install with CWM besides Google being dicks. Recovery is on a completely different partition.

        • They'd then have to provide support.

        • FYI, that neg vote isn't me. It's a valid point.

  • +1

how much space does the 8gb have after os? Not sure if I should get the 8 or 16 - not big on music or apps, mainly just email, internet, photos etc

    • Also curious. Currently use an S1 and have space free so i'm trying to think why I might need 16GB over 8..

    • +2

Total space out of the box is around 5.6 gb.

    • +2

The answer is around 5.5 (the internet tells me). I have had mine for around 6 months and have never tried to delete anything or even check levels. Just did now and I have 2GB free.

The way I look at it, 5.5 is heaps if you don't try to store media on it. If you do try to store media on it, 16 isn't enough anyway, get something with microSD.

  • on my way to persuade myself to hold on … so tempting

  • X_X This is HALF of what I paid for my Gnex when it just came out and was the "best"… Not sure if I want to buy this or wait for the Nexus 5?

Would have jumped on this if it came in white though (yes, that's a pretty shallow thing to do…)

  • +5

Why, why why why why why why DO I LOOK AT THIS SITE.

    Bought one, thanks again!

Seriously…. somebody should add a theoretical counter next to the + and - on the OzBargain in much the same fashion, with each + = 1 buy.

I would love to see the revenue this site 'generates'. I'm sure the entire totals would be up their as one of the biggest turnovers in the country (albeit not making money!)

Looking forward to my Nexus 4!

    • Heaps of people buy off the deals linked by this site but never bothered to sign up or login, let along voting +1 on the deals…

  • they need to start supporting external SD storage on Nexus phones!

    • I'd like that too but it wont happen. Google wants you to use the cloud for storage rather then your phone.

      • They're also trying to push the image that Android is as simple as iOS, ie. not having multiple locations for files. Of course it would help their efforts if removing apps didn't leave cache etc. files scattered everywhere on the phones storage/sd.

  • +2

I've got both nexus 4 and Sgs3. Sgs3 is way slow because of Samsung bloatware unless you flashed custom ROM like cyanogen.

    • Yeah, I would love a clean OS like cyanogenmod, but am really unsure of camera support and functions. For a lot of phones people complain that the cam are not so good after flashing it because lack of drivers.

  • can you buy the white version?

    • No. Exclusive to Harvey Norman.

  • +1

I'm happy people are buying this great phone because it deserves to be mainstream.

    • Most of the population spend much more for much less

  • Tempted to buy this for parents after Samsung S Duo stuff ups (dual sim card only reason).

If from what the GSMarena says - the battery life on my S3 is already crap, this must suck very much having to recharge every 2-3 hours of moderate-heavy use? (e.g. gaming, youtube)

yes also a down thing for android it is not as 'lite' as ios especiall with the bloatware it comes with on the S3, Don't get me wrong, apple device failed for me on itunes, the only reason i like IOS is because it is very very light, accepts apps, calling with nearly no stuffing up/lags and quick.

And someone mentioned running ios on android? not possible?

edit: i'll try the super nexus project and see how the mod cyanogen pans out from the lag and low battery life of the S3 - tbc

  • +2

Sell my used S3 = Brand New Nexus 4 = Profit!

  • Is this price drop permanent?
I want to wait and see what Nexus 5 will cost.
Otherwise I think not much advantages going from iPhone 4 to Nexus 4.

    • +1

I'm guessing it is or at least until they clear out their stock.

    • +1

…not much advantages going from iPhone 4 to Nexus 4.

      Sure about that? ;]

  • Is it likely to be available in shops at this price soon? Would rather pick one up than pay shipping..

    • HN is the only store that sells it and they're out of stock.

      • My local showed 'out of stock' when I looked online, but they had one in the glass cabinet - $419 and not willing to budge: "we are not price matching online stores".

  • +2

So what case is everyone getting? Any eBay specials that can be recommended?

    • The beauty of this phone is its glass back.. Please dont cover it..
Ive been using a Ringke fusion

    • i did pm bulksales rep

  • +5

Geezz, why they offer is not ended yet, if it ended i could simply say "oh damnit, missed it again" and i save $249.

    • +1

eh don't be fooled. There's newer and better stuff being announced in the coming weeks so I'm guessing there will be better deals soon.

      • Stock will be gone before the price gets any lower.

  • +2

I got momax clear case its made out of light weight good quality plastic. Cost me $19 from hardly normal but you can get from eBay about 9 aud shipped.
    EBay item I'd is 370778139196

For front screen as far as I remember nexus 4 comes with screen protector pre-applied but there's + and - signs printed on the screen protector where the volume buttons are. They didn't bother me.

    • +3

For front screen as far as I remember nexus 4 comes with screen protector pre-applied but there's + and - signs printed on the screen protector where the volume buttons are

That's not a screen protector lol, just those sticker things that get put on new items.

    • Thanks mate. Just saved me the hassle of having to do the research myself. Cheers!

  • still protects your screen so its a screen protector for me.

and as far as I remember touch worked better with that "sticker" on that it does with some "screen protectors".

    • I had the "sticker" on for a month before I had it replaced with a proper "screen protector."
Touch was definitely better after I replaced it.

  • Any cheapish covers that cover front and back, maybe something like the galaxy s3 front case? I want to keep this phone in as new condition for as long as possible - without making it a brick like with an otter box!

  • Does the warranty work here in Australia. Friend tried to get HN to price match as they had one left but wouldnot and said that if bought from playstore it would have no warranty here…any truth in this statement from HN?

    • +9

no truth in what they said. they are hardly normal. What can you expect.

    • Yes there is Australian warranty. Directly from google too which I would argue is better than Harvey Normans.

  • if you had it on for a month I'd say it did a pretty good job.

  • i need help deciding which one to get: 16gb google nexus 4 or lg optimus g that's currently on sale @ jbhifi

    • I got the optimums and I think its great but if I had to choose I would buy the nexus. It is $70 cheaper but if you really need more than 16Gb then maybe look at the optimus. The phones are pretty much identical.

  • get nexus 4 or get lg optimus and flash a faster ROM.

    • whats wrong with the custom roms for the nexus 4?

      • nothing, just optimus doesnt have stock.

  • This is a steal ! So Shhhh…

  • Very good price for a very good phone. My friend has one and the few times I've used it it was very responsive and generally a pleasure to use. I myself still use a GS2 as it still works fine and I see no reason to upgrade yet. Disappointing that Google continues not to support SD cards but anything's possible.

  • +1

A quick note! GET A CASE! It's glass both sides and they shatter easier than other droids.

    • The bumpers with the 'aluminium' frame, real or replica, will all crack near the charging port. It's a known issue :(

    • An alternative bumper is the 'poetic' range - there are replicas of these as well!

    • As above, Ringke is also good to show off the glass back.

  • Decent price for a half decent phone. Would be a great phone, if it wasn't for the rubbish battery life and storage.

  • As it supports* OTG, could a uber thin adapter be made to fit on the back, between a case and phone. Perhaps taking something like this and soldering a micro USB wire to the end? Anybody have an idea on the effect on battery life would be? I know it would be daggy, but 64-128gb+ would be possible, plus storage could be easily swapped.

I'm gonna give a shot on my GS2….

  • +1

I've had a Galaxy Nexus for 2 years and it still works completely fine. But screw it, bought one. :)

  • Ok. Could someone recommend a good case? I think my preference is for one that is leather with card slots, but could be convinced to get one that looks good and shows off the phone, as long as it will protect the phone. TIA.
