  • great price drops, over here Samsung is just slaughtering the competition :O

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the 8GB model has sold out in the US and apparently may not be restocked. My guess is the entry level 'phone will become the 16GB job, and the updated version (when it appears) will be the premium? Anyhow, if you are happy with the concept of the current 8GB model then I'd get in fast before it goes here as well.

    • I can't see them creating a new version of the Nexus 4. It is oldish now, Google will have plans for the new Nexus and LG have stated they aren't interested. More likely either the 8GB will be restocked or both will go.

      • See your point. Apple still sell the iPhone 4 and 4s as well as the 5. The factories are already tooled up to crank the 'phones out so why not. The Nexus may be older now, but the specs are still better than a lot of models out there now so for an entry level smart phone it is very hard to beat. So keep the old Nexus 16GB version at the lower price, maybe even the 8GB, bring out a 32GB version that also supports LTE/4G, and sometime bring out the next generation…. all guesses, and could be totally wrong, but the main thing is the 8GB has sold out in the US play store (http://www.droid-life.com/2013/09/02/8gb-nexus-4-now-out-of-…).

        • Soon it will be iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. That's all.

        • +1

Difference is that the Nexus is a Google phone. Google make the Nexus to drive support for Android and as a tech example. It is not about getting people to use Nexus products, and not about making cash, it is about pushing Android, and encouraging manufacturers. On this angle google doesn't want to keep pushing out the same thing, they want a new tech demo with a new manufacturer.

LG have their own competing products, and have publically stated that they don't need the publicity from making a Nexus phone any more.

        • Things have changed. Nexus is no longer a tech demo for developers and OEMs. Why would this generation be sold at retailers if it wasn't indented for general consumers?

        • Barely sold at retailers. And not on contracts. Usually at much higher cost than Google directly.

I agree that the progress seems to be slowing, perhaps it is time for the nexus to either retire or become just another phone like you suggest?

Actually the Nexus 7 seems to have gone this way. I suspect Google aren't even sure what they are doing.

        • Nexus 7 is widely available. It's harder to get carrier support for the 4 due to telcos wanting put all their crap over it.

If you haven't receive shipping notice for your order then you could try this.
    - Grab the order reference from Google Wallet (it's the part after the '.' of your order number)
    - Go to https://www.fedex.com/fedextrack/?cntry_code=us&tab=2
    - Select track by reference and enter your reference number in the box
    - Select Australia from "Destination Country" and enter your post code in "Destination postal code" box.
    - Submit

    • thanks mate. Been frustrating since the google wallet only show my oder is in process.

My item should arrive by tmr.

  • Telstra shop changed my sim to a micro. Old sim stopped working straight away, new sim took about 45mins to start working :)

Can someone please write a honest review about this phone?

    Cheers

Can someone please write a honest review about this phone?

Search for "Nexus 4" on Amazon US, you will find 395 reviews for 16GB model and 257 reviews for 8GB model.

Once you've read them all honestly, prehaps you could comment on your findings? Thanks

    • Has been said many times but:

      Unbeatable as long as:
      - You want an Android phone at all
      - You are happy with internal storage only
      - You don't need LTE

      • +7

-You are happy with fragile glass
-You are happy with subpar camera

        • And you can get past "LG"

        • +5

I can never understand this. Afraid the logo won't match your handbag?

If there is a build quality or support issue, fine (I don't think there is), but what is wrong with being made by LG?

  • Is there anyone got a formal Tax Invoice from Google Play store?

    • there is no tax invoice. also you cant claim gst via trs as the biller is Google Singapore.
i have 4 flying out yesterday and cant claim gst on em :/

      • I got a tax invoice OK and got the GST refund OK last week (on two phones)…

  • Just find the rear camera is not centered in the hole ? ???

    • Just find the rear camera is not centered in the hole ?

      Same

    • Can we get return or exchange to Google Play Store?

      • do you find the same ? Then it is a common problem with the new version , I may keep it .

    • +4

      It's not a defect…an updated design apparently http://www.androidcentral.com/confirmed-nexus-4-now-shipping…

  • -3

Its still an LG phone, I Want to buy it, but just cant bring myself to do it.

    • Only problem I have with LG are their slow/non-existent updates, though Google controls the updates with Nexus phones.

    • Why is LG phone a bad thing? As ozhunter mentioned, generally the only issue is lack of updates.

      • Weak glass.

        • +2

Are you suggesting this is a systemic problem with LG, or that the logo makes the glass weak?

  • I'm an android man to the death and I'm using an iPhone 4, gonna wait for the next round for this one the new nexus 7 just came out so the 4 can't be far behind, what about the rumours of a new samsung nexus possibly a s4 nexus that would be epic

  • +2

Suddenly a Nexus 5 appeared. Looks too big for me. My cheap 5.3" Chinese phone is too big to use one handed.

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/09/03/did-google-just-show…

    • Another typical Google PR stunt

    • Looks like it's at least 5 inches, made by LG, but has the soft touch feel of the Nexus 7 2013.

    • 8GB sold out

      8GB Australia NOT sold out.

  • Americans get the same
    8Gb for $199
    16Gb for $249
Thinking to wait a bit longer.

    • +1

      Good luck

    • Americans don't get 8G because it is sold out. Good chance new stock will never come.

    • Looks great in the link

  • The high frequency buzzing noise from the Nexus 4 charger is annoying.

  • One more upvote and ozBargain becomes cursed!

  • oh no, my vote change it to the cursed number

  • First thing I did was change the wallpaper to a custom wallpaper from my gallery. This set of the following error "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped"
What sort of phone is this?

    • A very smart phone.

    • "What sort of phone is this?"
      One built on Java.

    • +6

that depends..was your custom wallpaper a picture of Bieber? if so, I would say its an incredibly smart phone ;)

  • I just bought 2, but can't find how to cancle the order.

  • +3

This phone just gets better, running the Franco Kernel with Paranoid Android you get to utilise the full 5" screen.

    http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=P3uFFNNBhMc

    • -1

For real???!! change the kernel and it can physically enlarge the screen buy .3 of an inch? Can I keep flashing the kernel until I go from 4.7" to maybe 10"? Might be cheaper than buying a Nexus 10….

      • For real???!! change the kernel and it can physically enlarge the screen buy .3 of an inch?

Why speak such nonsense if you're not familiar with the phone?

        • It was sarcasm.

        • +2

I am familiar, and I know what dannyhc meant, but he just got the numbers wrong. The Nexus 4 has a 4.7" screen, of which some is taken by the on screen buttons. This is why I was pointing out sarcastically that it could magically enlarge the screen to 5".

    • +1

What it does is hiding the on-screen buttons. However with Franco kernel the best thing is changing the gamma level of the display. Previous phone was a AMOLED and the IPS LCD on N4 does look washed out.

  • This also has the same data dual carrier modem as the iPhone 5 but only the non FCC approved 1700/2100 AWS band supported.

  • Does anyone else have problems getting connected to wifi automatically after the update?
I have to toggle on/off aeroplane mode to pick up the signal which is rather annoying.

  • Crushed bought one 4 weeks ago at old price … ignorance was bliss….. damn you OzBargin…..

    • +1

How close to that 4 weeks?
      Bought from google store?

      If so:
      https://support.google.com/googleplay/contact/nexus_price

    • +1

I think it was 27th Aug that the priced droped…so anyone who bought one from google between 12th - 26th can get $100 back. If they ask.
Shouls someone could set up a "New Deal" to ensure Ozbargainers know?

  • Mine arrived this morning (ordered monday night). Anyone recommend a good(cheap) case? I saved this link from a post some pages back…anyone gat some feedback? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hybrid-Armor-Case-Built-in-Stand-…

  • this or the samsung galaxy express? I don't watch videos on my phones so I don't see the screen res being an issue. I have been waiting a year for 4g prices to go down so the express is more affordable, but I have still heard that not many people use 4g because it is battery draining. But then again I want a phone that I can use for at least 2 years so 4g might be useful.

My 8 year old nokia won't send texts anymore so need a new phone now!

    • This will perform much better. I'm assuming you wan't 4G as you surf the web a lot in which case the display makes a big difference imo.

  • with memory being so cheap these days, I reckon Google should sell 32gb at 8gb price and 64 at 16gb price.

    • The storage is not the reason for the cost. 16 to 32 certainly doesn't cost $50 more to produce, it is just a way to create two 'different' products. Also Google intentionally keep the storage low because they want to encourage you to use their cloud based services instead.

  • I the new Nexus coming out anytime soon?

    • +1

      Well obviously.

      • Obviously what? Nothing but rumours, but the rumours are for it to be soon.

  • Any info on how the camera on this phone compares to iphone 4 camera? Thankyou.

  • My Nexus 4 arrived today… my very first smart phone…and seems that it's defective… I've had bad luck with the last three items I've bought through ozbargain, bargains :(

When I make or receive a phone call I can only hear if the speaker ph function is on. The other person can hear perfectly…

Is there something I can do? Or do I need to claim warranty already? TOT

    • Looks like a warranty claim, contact Google.

  • You're annoying Apple fanboy caved and brought one. Will be here tomorrow. First thing, install PA Rom and Franco kernal.

    • Lets hope you don't have to send yours straight back for warranty like I do….

    • +2

You're annoying Apple fanboy caved and brought one. Will be here tomorrow. First thing, install PA Rom and Franco kernal.

Throw out the phone and buy yourself a dictionary.

  • I bought one. How is it even possible that this deal is going on 2 weeks after the US sold out?!

Tip for those who want more customisations out of their Nexus 4. Root the phone and put Cyanogenmod on it!
It's way better than stock, which I got bored with after 10 minutes after realising I couldn't change many options.

    • Cyanogenmod is so 2011. Paranoid Android is where it's at.

      • Cyanogenmod is so 2011. Paranoid Android is where it's at.

Given that PA will be supporting fewer devices in the future and has been plagued by stability issues it is still far from taking over the crown of the 'must have' ROM.

        • PA been rock solid for me. Also PA will be available on just as many devices in the future, however some will not be maintained by core PA developers.

Given CM recent sellout, I wouldn't be surprised if they start limiting official devices too.

      • LOL… well once rooted it's custom ROM galore!
Paranoid Android looks great and has heaps of customisations! After that is AKOP and then Cyanogenmod. I would say for most people Cyanogenmod would be good enough, hence the suggestion.

  • I bought one for my mum. Delivery was fine from Hong Kong. But not happy about the extra $8 charged on the Visa card. Rang Visa and Visa confirmed that it is because Google uses an overseas account, therefore the charge, eventhough all charges from Google was in Australian Dollars, including GST!! Sigh… $8 could buy several cool apps!

    Anyone had the same issue?

    • Yes. Got done by Airasia, presumed it was an overseas thing; then got done by new balance online (shoe shop in Melb). Now I use my 28degrees cr card (no Xchange fee/no annual fee!)for this sort of thing. Personally, I felt like I was scammed as it is a way for the retailer to transfer funds into an OS currency, and get the purchaser to pay for the conversion fee.
If an Aust bank tried that the ACCC would jump on them, but retailers seem to get away with it.

    • Can this be claimed for GST from the airport?

      • +1

My receipt includes tax, so Yes if…

        • cost is more than $300 (inc freight); did you get the 16G?
        • If you wish to claim a refund, you must get an original tax invoice from the store where you buy the goods. All stores registered for GST will be able to give you a tax invoice. A refund cannot be given without it. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

There is a Sydney help ph no on the receipt which, curiously, doesn't have an ABN no on it.

  • Im tempted to get this…. Rumor is Nexus 5 will be released 31st Oct. Should I wait till then and maybe the Nexus 4 will drop in price further or just pull the trigger?

    • +1

I was on the same boat, but ended up getting the nexus 4 now. I think many doubt the N4 will drop further in price. Rumor is the n4 will still be sold with the n5, but it'll be a lte version and it'll be back to launch prices. So unless you need lte, imo get out now before they pull it off the store.
