If you just want the Play Store credit, I've been successful in activating the iPad prepaid simcards for use with the $30 in my mobile device. It's a little extra step (going through the live chat) but only takes like 10 minutes or so - never had problem with any of the support people saying that I can't transfer the 3GB to $30 credit.

'Converted' 5 iPad kits to the mobile ones (for my Nexus 4) so far and got another two left from the Goodguys sale a while ago.

I had trouble with this a little while ago. On live chat they told me they cant do it, then I called up their support and was told they'd do it. I got someone to activate 3 sims at once, but later I realized they all had $0 credit. I specifically asked multiple times if the $30 would come over, and was told yes.

Anyway, $30 down the drain, but I learned a valuable lesson. Only buy the ipad sims if you want to use the 3GB of data.

Should of followed up with another call/chat with them to get them to put the $30 worth of credit on to the account.

        • Indeed. It's usually at zero, you have to call back.

          So I'm told.

    • They are going for $15 at Big W, bought one a few days ago for Play Store credit.

  • Just remembered i 've a complimentary xfer to Yatangomobile following on my trial on the late koganM : Six g byte, arrive free in mailbox so that's good.

Also don't forget with this here ipad, you'll want to observe aus post opening hours and of course check thru hotline beforehand which offices are corporate, as you certainly may need to travel to get there .. they typically report having 1-5,cards etc on hand, at these 'sparse' locations but that just the way with Te;stra special.

    • Have you ported your number over from Kogan to Yatango yet? If so, did you have a long delay?

    • Heard there were industry wide delays so I opted for the fresh activation sim instead mmkay. dashboard confirmed Data. 0 / 6144 MB looks good to receive Wednesday mmkay. off to debrand unlock my telco mf60 anyway.. .mkay.

  • Thanks OP

  • Dont use IPAD starter kit for phone. I activated a $30 IPAD kit bought from the good guys for phone today, but ended up with $0 credit. The customer service of Telstra said it is a $2 sim not $30.

    • +2

It is a $2 sim with $30 worth of data. You should be able to convert the unused data directly to credit. If it doesn't work, try another rep.

      • another rep still didnt offer the credit

  • Good deal but I will pass on this one. Still have 10+ left from previous deals posted on Ozbargain lol glad they all expire 2014 - 2015.

Do they sell the nano sim version (for the ipad mini)? At the same price?

    • im pretty sure they do, just ask the person to check on the computer before you purchase

    • +1

I haven't managed to find an Aust Post outlet that stocks the Nano SIM. You could cut this SIM down if you know how.

    • If you get one of the full size sims most phone shops will cut it down to nano size for free, or a few cents at most.

  • argh i cant believe i bought one yesterday from big w @ $15!!!! ive lost my receipt, but i havnt activated. so am i still able to refund?

  • "Dont use IPAD starter kit for phone. I activated a $30 IPAD kit bought from the good guys for phone today, but ended up with $0 credit. The customer service of Telstra said it is a $2 sim not $30"
Detonator - I think you have dropped the BOMB here mate, So these are not the same as the $30 Ipad starter kits, these definately give me 3Gb on both Ipad and android, but when you recharge its a different rate. So your telling us that now they are enforcing this Ipad sim to be used in IPADS only ?

    • yes. rep only offered me bonus.
quote from rep: "Since this was an iPad SIM, we can only provide bonuses on your mobile but not the main credits."

  • Has anyone had any issues with activating a few of these SIM cards for use on the Google Play store? I activated 3-4 of these over a period of 3 months. The most recent one took a few days to activate (had to contact them to hurry them up), and it appeared that they removed the "Bill my Telstra account" option for me. I contacted them a few times afterwards, and pointed out that the feature is advertised on the Telstra website, but they just acted dumb. :-/ Next time I'll use a different account.

  • How long do you have to activate these things? I want to use it in January.

    • It depends on individual SIM card, take a look at the back side. Mine says March 2015.

  • Just wondering, if I get 6 of these which worth $180, can I convert it to the $180 365days expires deal?

    • No

    • +1

Buy 12 - you are still saving $60, and will get 36GB data instead of 12GB. Just activate one per month.

  • Why cant you use them with android?

  • I activated a card for my iPad the other day it was from the bigw deal a few months ago it was for a phone/ tablet
other times they just activated it with no APN change .WAP this time they told me to change the APN to IPH
    Does any know why ?

  • Can you use these in a Telstra Mobile Broadband USB stick? What about an android tablet?

    • Yes, I've use this 3gb data sim in a Windows 7.5 phone, android 2.3 phone, and everyday in a usb dongle in desktop port. Don't have a tablet atm so dont know but should work.
Anyone know if they work in an ipad? (yoke)
This could change if Telstra stop it I guess.

    • +1

I'm currently using it in my old Motorola Xoom and works like a charm. Just make sure to do the activation via live chat or call, and mention you are going to activate this to "my tablet". There is no way Telstra can detect your tablet is android or IOS other than via IMEI.

      • Great, thanks for the advice!

  • Bought 3, one of which I will want to use as actual data - can someone please explain to me what the deal with converting it to $30 google play store credit is? Please?

  • Grabbed the last three off the rack at 479 St Kilda Rd … local 'business' micro place hadn't opened their latest delivery yet :)

  • Got my first one activated last night with the $30 credits instead of the 3GB - thanks everyone

    • How do you actually confirm that you have the $30 credit instead of the 3Gb of data?

And how long does the PLAYSTORE credit last?

  • Is there any date that these need to be activated as thinking of getting 12 as this will give me 36gb over 12 months on telstra for $120 instead of $180

    • most expire 2015 :)

  • Is this on 4g network?

  • Have tried 3 PO's since yesterday, no luck for me at:
    Melbourne GPO, Elizabeth Street*
    Melbourne, Franklin St.
    Glen Huntly LPO.

*The GPO had some of the Micro sims, I was after Nano.

Franklin St said several OZbargainers had been asking about them this week. They searched but found none of the ipad sims when I tried yesterday.

    • you can pick up an empty nano sim from telstra. then you either live chat or call to change the micro sim for the nano.

    • price-match at big w :)

  • Just tried dick smith, they don't allow price matching on this apparently.

  • Officeworks and JB Hifi pricematched for me, the problem I've encountered is most shops get limited supply of these, so when they appear on Ozbargain it's usually Game Over quickly. Officeworks pricematched and charged me $19 for two, gotta love saving an extra 5%.

    • Use ING card with paywave for an additional 5%.:-D

  • BTW Hornsby still had some stock yesterday
