    yes it is good, probably one of the best smart monitoring software I do trust to test if a drive is degrading and failing.

        Almost certainly just reads the smart data on the drive.
        Sure it will work on externals but if you want the "real" truth with the mysterio baloney removed, test the disks with the manufacturer's tools.
        Seatools for Seagate, Western Digital Diangnostics for WD. When in doubt Seatool is the default.

    both internal and external yes, doesn't matter if it's usb or eSATA as long as software can read the smart status onboard.

    This is a trivial function. Modern hard drives report their status.

        Smart testing is highly "forgiving" and regularly passes HDs with many issues including dud sectors.
        By the time SMART puts its hand up the drive will most likely be completely pooped. Better to run the long test with manufacturer's tools once in awhile and find out the true status.
        Another good one is Crystal Disk Info - quick and easy.
        Two factors to keep an eye on in SMART data are the total number of power on hours (more than 25,000 is pushing it) and the Uncorrectable and Pending Sector counts. If they are high, that's bad.

      This type of software is used to make future predictions about your hard drive by analyzing the SMART values.

      Windows doesn't do that, although it will give you some errors when it detects abnormal activity on your HDD, such errors can come a little too late..

    Thanks op…..saved my butt this weekend. This software confirmed my suspicion of a 1TB external in the early stages of failing. Got lucky this time. : ) Iobit detected no spyware for me……
