Seems to be the best non Eftel/DODO/Club telco consortium at the moment and also happens to include a static IP as a bonus. I'll definitely be going on this plan.

Got confused by the $500 GB in the title ;)

    • Yes, should remove the $ sign in the title…

      • There's a 500GB + unltd mobile calls for $59.99/month option, looks like they were mixed together

  • Saw some very steep line activation charges. Wonder if it's applicable to all new customers

thats true but I am paying $90 to failstra for 200gb and line rental(phone calls extra)…I have just signed up with exetel for $49.99 for both internet and phone (and its 500gb..not that I will ever use it)…. so I will be paying $40 a month less so I was happy to pay $60 for line activation… hopefully the internet speed wont drop - i heard some weird stories about failstra interfering with their competitors customers lines-not sure true or not, hoping it is not true…..

      • I've never heard that, but what can happen you could end up on an optus exchange instead of telstra. From my experience it means every night during peak hours you'll experience congestion. I experience it and if you like to game or stream TV it can be an issue. I live far from the exchange though, but can still stream Netflix etc during other periods. Telstra supposedly don't oversell their network as much, thus higher costs per connection for data but better latency and less congestion during peak hours.

        • optus doesnt have any dslams in my area…all i can get is telstra and thats why i was stuck with them….

        • Update: my application got cancelled as it seems that Exetel uses Optus to provide ads land my exchange only supports Telstra… Oh well, I tried.

        • Did you put in your phone number? Exetel support Telstra exchanges. I'm with them and also don't have Optus in the area. If you put in your phone number it should give you the Telstra plans. In my case they're the 'Reach' plans (as Telstra considers us zone 2 for whatever reason), with 100GB for $39.99, 500GB for $49.99, and unlimited for $59.99. I have to wait until they offer them to existing customers though…

      • interfering with their competitors customers lines

Such nonsense. The rules and regulations governing the Telstra wholesale 'arrangement' are closely monitored and very transparent. The main issue is if anything goes wrong with your land line, you're at the back of the repair queue with a wholesale company.

A small price to pay for a lot of savings.

I would never go with them again. Had my naked dsl terminated due to high usage…. On a 200gb plan, average use was 100gb

This was about 4 years ago when exetel forcibly removed thousands from their userbase.

    • before I signed up (2.5 years ago) exetel told me they will tolerate going a bit (I think 10%) over the limit a few times.. then they'll warn, then kick.

I've been very happy with them.
I've often gone over 33% and had no warnings.

I'm definitely going with them when I move in a couple of weeks.. because the service has been great (despite some of the dodgy elements of exetel)

I have been with exetel for a long time. U gota be careful as they do screw u around with download speeds a lot of the time but the plans are quite cheap. look at reviews recently~~ http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2063003

I am currently paying $39.50 for phone line rental and 20 gig downloads off peak and 20 gig onpeak.

To cut costs in the past they were slowing peoples download speeds at peak times (5-10pm) periods to like 60kbps ~_~… but atm its not too bad. Just if u want to have a good connection with certain overseas sites/games they have higher ping rates. For example I used to get 197 ping for a game I played a year ago but now I get a ping rate of 260-350~~~

end result is if u are not frustrated with high pings and slow download speeds from time to time then go with exetel.

I think that should be "calls to mobiles" not mobile calls. A big difference - no SIM bundled in.

And as this is standard price, does it belong here? More like in forums - here or whirlpool.

Of course I'm in a bad mood because it is not available to existing customers.

    • o wow really lol…..that does suck then ~ not available to existing customers , lmao

    • I was thinking it was quite a good deal until you pointed out it's calls to mobiles, not mobile calls.

    • I read on Whirlpool from a rep that it's coming to existing customers. I think my contract expires next month, so hopefully will be ready soon…

  • Anyone know how these guys compare to Spintel? I'm currently on a $39.95 plan that gives 20GB and free line rental and free local calls. Its cheap, but its slow.

    • exetel been around for some time

      on the other hand, spintel?

    • I swapped from Exetel to Spin

  • How these guy compare to TPG?

    • I came here to ask the same question…anyone?

Years ago I was with them, they were ok but I pretty much lived really close to the exchange. I don't think this is a bad deal or necessarily great , there's plenty of ISP with similar kind of deals, and most get mixed reviews like exetel. The unlimited voice calls might attract people, the 12 month contract could be a negative.

    • you should try to look at 24 months or 36 months contract! :-P

  • I'm with logitel for my broadband, I have a dedicated account manager, don't need to wait so long to get some one on the phone, just send an email enquiry and answered straight away, been using them for more than a year, highly recommended, also using vaya for mobile.

Just want you guys to be wary of some info before choosing Exetel.

Yes this plan is cheap, but in my opinion it's designed to reel you in. Exetel is known to increase plan prices even during the contract, using this clause in the terms and conditions:

    1. Variation to Agreement
3.1 Exetel may vary any part of the Agreement:
      With the Customer's consent; or
Without the Customer's consent provided Exetel complies with the Telecommunications Legislation.

It is the "without the customer's consent.." clause that they use.

This happened to my Mum's Exetel connection less than a year ago.

They do give you the choice to change to a different provider without penalty in this circumstance, but they know many won't bother changing. Also, they still charged my Mum and others I know the exit penalty, and we had to ring up to get it fixed. I wondered whether they were banking on people not noticing the exit penalty on their statements.

At the time Exetel said the price rise was due to their wholesaler charges increasing. But would they have lowered our charges if their wholesaler costs decrease? Of course not. Regardless, a contract should work both ways, not just favour the vendor. As a customer, if I lock in a contract term, then I should pay that amount, regardless of whether or not the price is advantageous to the vendor.

As I said, this happened less than a year ago, but I just found this article from 2010, so it has been happening a few years at least : http://www.comparebroadband.com.au/article_650_Exetel-raises…

    • This is 100% my experience too. Been with Exetel since day one and happy with the service, but regret recommending them to a friend who just wanted an internet service and not have to constantly change plans all the time. They end up paying $300-$400 extra from memory over a couple of years from Exetel constantly changing plans on them.

Exit penalties: 6 month contract coming to a close? Online you can schedule service termination. But the dates it used were one day out, and if you terminate early, there was a whopping termination fee. Terminate one day late, and you pay another months subscription. So I got my friend to schedule termination over the phone when her 6 month contract was up. They stuffed it up, she got charged another month, multiple phone calls later they refunded the 29 unused days of the month out of good will :)

    • After being with Exetel for a long time we ended up leaving after they kept changing the plans which weren't bad at first but eventually it got to where they wanted to swing the axe to our GB allowance and then add another $10+ to the cost so ended up leaving.

    • +1 I have been with them for ~6yrs and they change plans/conditions frequently and even shape unlimited plans. My speed in the morning is 701 KB/s and atm it is 311 KB/s.
I have been overcharged at least 5 times and they always 2-4 weeks to repay.

  • Is there a no contract option?
$99 prorata early termination fee? Is that $99 per month left on the contract?

    • ($99 x no. of services)x(months left/12)

      e.g. broadband + phone line = 2 services

  • deleted

  • Also I noticed you get a $99 fee for moving which seems a bit steep.

    • It's pro rata'd, which means that if you're with them for half the contract then you only pay half that fee.

  • I have been with them for about 4 years now, was with Comcen before that.

I initially was on naked DSL unlimited Internet for $65 per month, then changed about 2 years ago to an unlimited internet ADSL 2 plan and phone bumble for $59 per month. Never had an issue in all that time, never rang them once.

  • I think it is better if OP could highlight some extra fee. Such as
    Line Activation Charge
A once off telephone line activation charge of $99.99 applies to users who are activating a new broadband and telephone service with Exetel. A charge of $59.99 will apply to users with an active telephone and broadband service moving their existing broadband and telephone service to Exetel.
