  • Looking for chest freezer deals. Told wife about the ice cream and then realised that we ran out of fridge space (one of our freezer died recently) :(

    • +1

You need to stock a replacement freezer for days like this. ;)

    • +3

Aldi have a 150L chest freezer that went on sale 16/10/13 for $239.

      • I guess knowing Aldi, the freezer is gone by now.

        • not really, people like me don't have a spare UTE to lug heavy white goods around when its on sale or to return it for warranty/refund. I could only look at the pricetag and maybe post them. lol.

  • might have to give these a try to see what the fuss is about

  • so who here has tried the bacon flavoured ice cream?

    • +1

lemme know once they have it. aussie companies generally are not very adventerous with their flavours

      • I thought i saw it in the window of a desert store in sydney

        • +7

Ice cream would not last long in a desert store.

  • How about the 470 ml? I'm loving the salty nuts!! But cookies and cream is good too..

  • Which flavors are good for Connoisseur?
I normally only buy Sara Lee… how does this compare? :o

    • My favourite Connoisseur flavours are Cafe Grande, Belgian Chocolate and Cookies and Cream. I buy Sara Lee too when it's on special. They're both really nice, but I find Sara Lee a bit creamier and more moist on the whole. Connoisseur seems to have a "drier" texture.

    • IMHO Connoisseur is >>>>> Sara Lee. I tried the rum and raisin from sara lee which taste nothing like a rum and raisin, even the coles one taste better. Sara lee taste like too sweet for me.

  • +1

Jeez.. I'm going to need some new fat pants.

  • +5

Wow so it's gone from Fully blown rip off price to semi-blown ripoff

    5 bucks for 1L of ice cream sorry but I can't even…

    • +7

Fully agree … I am amazed that 245 people vote + for this. Our supermarket prices are so overinflated that we don't realise anymore how we get ripped off …

      • +3

Im sure 245 people didn't just love the price. Sure it might not be a bargain, yet again we voted cuz we loved the product as well too yo. I certainly do hope with more people like you managing supermarkets, we'll be able to get it at like $1 dollar. YUM.

      • I love this deal, but 245+? That is a bit excessive.

I guess with downvotes not being allowed unless the bargain is a complete scam, popular bargains that aren't that much of a bargain will outweigh really noteworthy ones. Something for the mods to think about?

        • Agree +100

People must be very desperate - if you love this ice cream so much, do you really need the incentive of a few dollars to grab some?

        • +7

I disagree. Surely something that normally sells for $8.99 and is usually $7 on special is a bargain at $5.

        • So true really, there is such a difference in requirements of upvotes or downvotes, so with deals like these…

Shame that this will beat the lesser known but more really special bargains.

        • +1

44.38% discount is not noteworthy? Maybe it's blazingly hot in NSW and so happens that people are craving for icecream perhaps?

i like the way things are not done to your preference though…. because I would miss out on a lot of deals you don't consider 'noteworthy' then. lol.

        • Last I checked, OzBargain is a democratic website where people vote for the deal they like. What constitute a bargain to you might not be the same for me. The system works.

          Quit criticising other people choices.

        • -6

Ok … we have confirmation now … a new deal got just posted … just 1 week later and 0.51$ cheaper (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120860). So it was still overpriced … and only a few people picked that up.

Even at the new price it is still too expensive. (I compare to the prices to Europe … and I see that our supermarkets must have an excessive margin on products. We always complain about electronics but don't look at the most basic products).

Yoghurts are 30 cents - premium ice cream is 2-3$ - Milk is 70 cents per l

Just nobody looks at these prices at our supermarkets … thank god Aldi and Costco are entering the market in a bigger scale now …

        • poor sap never heard of loss leaders nor how to businesses runs nowadays.

      • Well if you dont like the product and can not vote negative does not mean this is not a true bargain. Compare this with I-Crap product with over inflated price. even 10% discount many people plus the bargain. This ice cream hands down the best ice cream in Aussie and compare to the other brand is not heavily discounted as much. If you want to buy the same quality ice cream, you may need to go to one of the hyper inflated price of gelato join where $5 only gives you 1 or 2 scoop.

Premium product when discounted warranted the plusses they get.

If Connoisseur open ice cream join, people will surely queue, just sayin

    • get over it, inflation happens. so does everyone's wages. (Even though its at different rates, but its different argument for a different day)

or you can buy the homebrand 4L vanilla icecream with $2 and maybe get $1 oreos and crush them and blitz them yourself? :P

  • +3

Cookies and cream is nice. The others are kinda average.. $5 should be the normal price though.

    • +2

I do agree, I thought 5$ for 1L of Premium Icecream was just barely understandable (well maybe not understandable but i had resigned myself to that price, i still think even thats quite a lot for icecream) but once it started going above that, it was hard to still justify buying it. I really like the Vanilla flavour too.

      • That's where supermarket brand comes in. I find Coles and Aldi premium ice cream pretty nice. Current favourite is Coles "Coconut and Lime" flavour.

  • Cookies & Cream along with the Caramel Macadamia FTW!
Great, now I'm going to put a 1000 calories on in one sitting because of this deal!!

  • +2

Interesting trivia - with this post getting 100+ votes, it's the 1337th deal to get a "popular deal" badge. TA is officially leet.

  • time to clear out my fridge!!!

  • How does Connoisseur compare with Maggie Beer?

    • +1

Has anyone here even tried Maggie Beer? I haven't. It's too expensive for me (and I don't think I've seen it on special much). Also some of the flavours seem too exotic for my taste.

      • Only got to try "Burnt Figs" flavour. I normally don't eat much greens or figs but that ice cream is YUM. Would buy it if it's half price.

    • i don't like maggie beer, i find that the flavours are a bit too try-hard.

i used to like bens and jerrys because their flavours are wacky and fun.. but they made it all too sweet recently.

  • +4

Has anyone here even tried Maggie Beer?
    It's too expensive for me

    Ugh, too ripe/matured… :- /

  • Wife will be happy

  • +4

Mrs. bought 3 cookies & cream from Woolies today. The checkout dude was worried and asked her how many are still left in the freezer…

  • Bought 11 containers of it, been so long since i have bought it as it was just too pricey to justify. I actually like the Peters Lite and Creamy.

  • i just went to my local woolies and the whole freezer was cleared out, except a few boxes of weis bars. Not even just Connoisseur icecream that had been pillaged.

    • It was hot today.

    • +1

hope you asked for a raincheck?

though woolies is only 4wks :(

      coles is 12mths :)

      • -1

nah but i just went back and put a post-it note on the freezer door that said 'oz-bargained' haha.
i just went to another close by woolies to get my icecream. :D

        • +1

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

  • +1

Might have to go the Raincheck option. The QV Woolworths is just devoid of any $5 Connoisseur.

    • Tell me about it WHYYY WHYYYYYYY!

  • Why didn't they have Summer Strawberry at my woolies, all the others were fully stocked. :(

  • so has it all sold out at most woolies?

    • Not in SA. The one in the CBD are obviously due to more traffic, but the one in the suburbs should have plenty (Maryatville, SA had heaps left).

But seriously, do people need to grab them by the trolley-full? Saw someone with a trolley with like 20 of them.

      • could be supermarket owner, doubt they can get cheaper than $5 each.

    • South Oakleigh had heaps last night (but not the strawberry flavour). Note: Looks like the moved the tubs to the end fridge, so where they should be (with all the other ice cream tubs) looked empty.

Down the end I saw heaps of Cookies & Cream, Honey Macadamia, Cafe Grande, Belgian Chocolate, Vanilla.

Forest Hill had some. Price still said $8.99 in the fridge but scanned at $5.

(I had to be at Forest Hill early in the day and picked up a couple, then I had to be at South Oakleigh at night so I picked up a couple more flavours)

  • Grabbed the last Cookies and Cream at my Woolies in Hoppers. Aside from the Honey Macadamia flavour which had 2 tubs left, all the other flavours had plenty.

Did a taste test out of the Cookie, Honey, Cafe and Vanilla flavours, and had to say that the Cookie and Cream one was the best. Glad I got them to try out, but if there was ever another sale, I'd only go for the Cookies and Cream.

  • My heart was racing as I turned the corner at my local, I suspected Dia-Betty trawling the cold section for various quick fixes may have already cleared it out, but I was in luck! I scooped 6 tubs into my basket before any onlookers caught wind of this deal.

  • If only I had the freezer space so I can stock up! lol

    • rainchecks help :)

  • If I didn't remember wrongly, Woolies at Glen Waverley have them for $4.50/tub!

  • +1

    I wish they would make a rum'n'raisin…..

    • Have you tried Aldi version of Rum'n'Raisin? Pretty good for under $5.

  • $4 a tub if you buy 10 tubs and combine it with the Woolies deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120399

    • and that's delivered :)

  • -2

So. Does anyone here like ice cream?

    • -1

now you are just being silly. people love icecream; ask them during a perth summer.

    • -1

and here i thought ice cream lovers were happy people with an acute sense of irony.
