you would think that by ordering online they would have a system that would remove the listing once stock is sold. so excuses about unexpected demand etc are a bit of a joke really.

        • +1

With the amount the site was going down tho, I wouldnt be surprised if it screwed over any stock counting system they had going.

        • I honestly don't buy that. It wasn't messing over their ability to take peoples credit card details. It may be what occurred, but the customer shouldn't wear the impact of them not properly designing their online store if that was the case.

We'll see what happens, but the guys above are right where this sort of thing shouldn't happen. It doesn't help that they had this advertised in a catalogue I saw a scan off (see http://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/the-good-guys-catalogue-50…), which in my eyes immediately makes this a bigger issue than some of those Dick Smith sales that never really got any advertising by the company and as such I can understand why a store may not have stock in that case.

        • whoops

      • +1

        Its a clearance sale.
I would wager they aren't going to back order anything as they were trying to clear the remaining stock to begin with.
You may end up with no other option but to accept a refund.

        • +7

or some store credit, worse you'll end up buying something you don't want. A full refund plus some store credit will be acceptable to me.

        • Thats what we should fight for if it comes down to it.

  • Thanks op :D Placed my order for Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and the Sly Trilogy yesterday at 3pm. Got email confirmation this morning that my order is being processed at Auburn. Just $32 delivered! What a steal!

    • +1

Doesn't exactly mean you will get it. Depends if the store has the stock.

Edit: mine are also being processed at auburn, not looking good because I got store confirmation yesterday evening and even to now, no signs of shipment.

      • Ah, rightio. Thanks for the heads up mate.

  • +2

You'd think that, if they were having an ONLINE clearance sale, that they would've pooled X amount of copies into their warehouse(s) or at least set them aside at stores as reserved for said promotion. Then it'd be a simple matter of limiting the # of each item on the site to what you had available/reserved for that promo.

You might get a few over-orders that way, but not nearly as many as they did. Quite a few of the products (including some I ordered) were up for 8+hrs after I lodged mine. That's possibly hundreds of excess orders!!

IMO pretty shoddy way to run a promotion/clearance… Particularly if you've got no intention of restocking the items.

(I'll accept a refund + some in-store credit as compo - getting Zelda: Link between Worlds for sub-$40 will ease the pain… :-p)

    • +3

same here most of the stuff I ordered was still there hours after I ordered, so I would be shattered if my order isn't fulfilled

    • +3

Well I think what makes it frustrating is that it appeared stock was ACCURATE, given slowly games were disappearing off the site for availability, not to mention I called up to confirm that the version for sale was the correct one I was after at my local store, I asked them if they could hold it, but they said to order it online, if there's an issue with it going through, to call back up and they will put it aside for me…

So I COULD of had it 100% now I'm in limbo…

  • +2

Its annoying how they just allocate the orders to stores which then ignores what time you placed the order. You might have been allocated a store with very few number of games in that store and even though you were the first ones to place the order, you might still miss out.

    • +3

I know right, the whole process seems dodgy

  • +1

Wish this gets media attention. I remember the Dick smith fiasco got caught by the media and ended up in the benefit of the customers. What they say bad rep is bad business

    • +2

Dick Smith was mainly due to staff taking stock for themselves though, its not really the same.

      • Is this in relation to the half price Wii U's?

        • I don't know if thats what "ow" is talking about but I assumed they were talking about the game clearance they had last year.

    • +4

TGG had a great deal, they got swamped after it was posted early in the morning on a large bargain website and you want them to receive bad press because they sold out of stock (a lot of stock it seems)
Nice, you're not bitter at all.

      • +2

And surely this would've been posted on many gaming websites too.

      • +2

As long as they ship orders that have been paid for they don't deserve any bad press.

BUT if they have taken money from you and me and others for items they have no stock of - then they deserve all the bad press they can get.

    • If only we knew then dick smith would get worse though

  • +2

I just rang belmont store and they told me no stock is left for over 350 orders big waste of time.take ya money and get nothing in return.

    • +2

Ouch. That's not good. I feel sorry for those 350 people. Hope the same doesn't happen to me.

    • damn that's where mine was allocated

  • The system ya'll complaining about actually works quite well when something hasn't gone on viral on its ass.

    Officeworks do the same thing.

There's just too much self entitlement leading to inevitable disappointment.

    • +9

I don't think self entitlement of people here is an issue at all. Its not like people are expecting something for doing nothing. If the store takes peoples money, then the persons whose money was taken should be able to expect that the store is in a position to follow through on their end of the bargain, in this case the delivery of a product.

Office Works or other stores also having poor systems isn't an excuse for another handling transactions in a way that puts consumers on the wrong foot. They could go with a system that other retailers use where a product is only charged to the consumer once the item is being packed for shipment or using an online system that is better capable of tracking stock in real time. Certainly I feel better about these sorts of issues when it happens with a retailer such as Amazon where if they oversell or have a pricing error, at least it is rectified before any financial transaction has actually occurred. It also gives consumers the ability to cancel an order almost up to the last minute (and this isn't limited to pre-orders).

If they implement a system that can't adequately manage their stock AND they advertise a promotion of this nature (see the catalogue available on their site currently that mentions this sale - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/content/Catalogue_04) then thats the fault of the retailer and they shouldn't expect anything other than a poor reaction.

      • -5

Self entitlement = Expecting the company to fulfill orders even if there is no stock, even though they have no legal obligation to do so if they mistakenly oversold.

What you are actually entitled to = The stock ordered from the company or a refund for your purchase if they can not provide it.

Every true bargain on OzBargain comes with a certain element of risk that you buy into. It's a bargain and its posted on a public forum where 1000's of other users are all going to see it (and take advantage of it).

As far as I'm concerned, most of the whining here IS "Self Entitlement". If you don't want to risk being refunded or having to wait then don't buy into the best bargains. :)

        • +2

Self entitlement is expecting more than one is entitled to. Given the store took their money, I'd argue they are entitled to the product. A refund no doubt squares things away, but its not unrealistic for people to have expected the item would be received either. You could argue that the store had no entitlement to the customers money if they had inadequate stock.

Mistakes happen and I think most people here acknowledge that. It doesn't mean consumers should put up with poorly designed and implemented systems and regardless of any legal implications, the store in this case was taking orders well into yesterday afternoon so surely they should have put a halt on the system once it became obvious they were being overwhelmed (something that was pretty obvious early in the morning to all observers).

As per my previous post, there are stores out there that implement a payment system that makes it a lot less likely that a consumer will be financially impacted by situations such as this. My honest opinion is it should be standard across the board, but that'd be wishing for too much.

Calling people here self entitled passes on the blame from the retailer who sold stock they didn't have onto the users here which in my view is unfair. No one here did anything the retailer didn't want them to do, which was to purchase products from them.

I'm quite happy to take a refund all things considered. I still don't think its a good situation for consumers and I think its an area where more could be done to protect buyers. I'm betting most people are in my boat where we haven't yet been contacted regarding any issue (assuming now that the orders wont be full filled) and thus are for now still out of pocket.

        • -1

I used the phrase (self entitlement) in the context of:

"Just because an online system let your order said product at said price, doesn't automatically entitle you to receive".

In the case of a clearance sale, it's insane that some users expect their orders to be fulfilled. Seriously out of touch with reality with a high sense of "self entitlement" going on.

    • +3

Unfortunately "going viral" (true as it may be) doesn't mean that items are still up & available to buy many hrs after they're (in hindsight) sold out.

They've got a promo up now - "Tech Frenzy" - so if they're expecting a heck of a lot of traffic (& purchases), they'd be best putting a cap on how many items are available (if they can't do real-time inventory). A couple of orders unable to be supplied - OK, but hundreds of orders & many hrs delayed in taking down items - their fault.

It's also technically illegal (depending on how they frame their excuses) to take payment for items they have no chance (or no intention) of obtaining.

Unfortunately it's not like this hasn't happened before (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97804), but this time as "clearance titles" there's probably less hope for a favourable outcome.

      • there was no favourable outcome last time

  • +4

I dunno… I don't think it's too much to ask that they have an online stock system tied to the online store that removes the item from the inventory once the purchase has been paid for… then once stock is gone, no more orders are accepted for that product… /shrug

    • Problem is that they were selling local store's stock and (I don't know their system but) I assume that the store's stock levels are not synchronized with the websites stock levels instantly. Not a great system granted but there are a lot of stores out there so I guess it wouldn't be an easy system to overhaul.

      • +2

They use IBM WebSphere Commerce which is a beast of a system. Stock levels, instant synchronization across all stores, etc. are all possible. Whatever feature isn't built directly into the software is pretty much guaranteed to be available as an extension.

It would hardly be an overhaul to make it all work properly. They just need to hire someone who is qualified to work with that system as I don't think the current person holding that position is.

        • How do you know this if you don't mend me asking ?

        • +1

If you work with systems like these it's not very difficult to spot which one is used on which site.

Also in the industry it's no secret that this is the choice of system for major retailers.

IKEA, Kmart, David Jones, Myer, Sussan, JayJays, Portmans, Coles Online, Just Jeans, OPSM and many more also use it.

        • -4

shitguys prices in store frequently do not match online price - they argue about it all the time - they did for this sale - shitguys

I received an email from PayPal yesterday

During a recent review of your PayPal account, we’ve noticed you’ve had a higher number of claims with your transactions. This could include claims you’ve initiated with PayPal or through your bank.

We may need to exclude you from PayPal’s Buyer Protection Policy if we continue to notice an excessive or unreasonable number of claims, reversals or chargebacks with your transactions. Pending further review, we may also deny any open and future claims.

I only had claims on a few small bits of eBay crap items from China that never arrived and the refund from the KOGAN Galaxy S4 "price error" fiasco.

This was after I already ordered and payed for these games on Pay Pal.

If this ends up getting refunded by the Good Guys I fear my Pay Pal account standing will suffer.

Frustrating also that I checked in store stock levels near me and got the not available but you can order online thing from the web site. Then the email Your order has been allocated to a store for processing, that store being the one near me which I had checked 12 hours before and knew had no stock. In the mean time other people here report finding the same games in other stores that I had ordered well after I had placed my on-line order.

Your order has been allocated to a store for processing = Someone has been allocated the task or calling/emailing you to tell you you won't be getting anything

  • I just received Zombie Wii U today by mail! :)

My Luigi Wii U, RE:revelations and Pokemon Mystery Dungeons are still on transit according to Australia Post.

    • How do you know this, I'm yet to receive anything (gathering it's by e-mail), looks like I'll be expecting a refund :(

      • Yeah same, refund for me to I'm guessing :/

      • Because they sent me an email with my tracking ID?

    • +1

You're one of the lucky ones! All mine still "back ordered".

I think we all need to calm down and sit tight. Some of us will miss out, and some will still have a good outcome (or partial success).

I completely agree that this system appears to have been doomed from the start - too good to be true prices mixed with a system not setup to take a high volume of online orders. They should have run it only instore if they weren't able to monitor stock real-time.

Anyway - lets see what happens! One can only hope!

      • Where did you get the part about backordered? On the allocation email?

        • If you had registered BEFORE ordering you will be able to view updates on the order status in your account.

      • If it helps, mine was ordered 20 mins after this bargain was posted.

  • +1

Well I wouldnt be expecting much …

I got my allocated store email and when logging into TGG site now

All i see is backordered for the 4 Pokemon games on my order

Ahhh well, some you win, some you lose. I'd more than likely expect a refund

At least a few people snagged some bargains

    • I only ordered Pokemon games and Black Ops 2, so I'm not overly hopeful anymore.

  • +2

    Update
Just picked mine up at my local store
They put it aside at the back (warehouse) for delivery .
I just showed them my order number and the nice guy helped me out .
May I suggest some of you visit your allocated LOCAL store if near by.
I really hope most of my fellow ozbargainers will be fulfilled with the games they deserved( I hate Borden)
Thank you and have a good day all

  • +1

I had two orders in, first had a couple of games (including Luigi U) and the second only had ZombiU.

ZOmbiU got delivered today, and I've got a store allocation for the other order, but no delivery notification.

If my order is being held up cos Luigi isn't in stock, I'd prefer they just send whatever they have. If they don't fulfill the rest cos they are trying to do the order all in one, and then that stock gets allocated elsewhere, I'll be annoyed.

Seems it would have been better to order one game per order, even though it would cost $2 more each time…seeing a single game order they may have been able to get it out the door quicker….

    • I figured as much this morning after reading some of the comments, because it seems to save them money on delivery they allocate a store that has all the stock you were after…but hindsight is a wonderful thing my friend.

  • Received a partial refund for the part of my order that couldn't be filled. Well done TGG. Very efficient.

    • What lead to the refund, or was it done automatically?

      • I received a call today and was told 2 titles were not available. Received a paypal refund a couple hours later

        • Did you ask for any compensations for the issues, or were you happy just to get your money back?

        • Really doubt they will give any compensation.

        • +5

No reason for compensation. I was happy they were able to fill part of my order.

    • …And via Paypal or cr card?

    • So you got money back for the games they couldn't provide, but got some of the order delivered? I'm hoping that's what happens with mine…all but given up hope of Luigi being in stock looking at how many people ordered :p

  • I got my batch of Wii U games in the mail today, including Luigi. Just waiting on the rest of the orders now. Thanks, OP!

  • I called the penrith nsw store where my order was allocated and they said that they were just going through the orders now and there were about 300 of them.

    • Hmm, isnt sounding good.
At least, worst comes to worst, I will be able to buy a marginally cheaper, legit copy of HG/SS on ebay :(.

  • Thumbs up to the Preston team, received my Pokemon White 2 today, very speedy :)

  • +3

Called my allocated store…. im not overly confident in their ability with the way they answered my call, the staff were bumbling around not knowing what to do or who to transfer me to.
Id be surprised If I get anything in my order <_<

  • Has anyone ordered and received resident evil revelations?

    • I ordered it too, received my order confirmation but that's it.
I called the webmaster hotline yesterday and they confirmed my order is coming

    • I ordered this too, but have only received store allocation, but not a delivery. My order had Luigi in it too though…so who knows…

      • Utter bullshit, got a call last night from TGG, the majority of my order has been cancelled, pretty much the main games i wanted - Luigi, Professor Layton, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, etc
I ordered at 630am and a lot of people that ordered after me got copies of the games i ordered.
he said it may have been cause i ordered a lot of games (13, no dupes).
All this after i called the webmaster the day before and he told me i was definitely getting my entire order.
Pretty pissed off, should have been first come, first served.

        • That sucks man, did they at least give you a $40 voucher?

        • Yeah they offered me a $40 voucher, said i should get it next week.

        • I certainly won't be getting my hopes up…Luigi and Professor Layton were both in my order. I just wish they'd actually tell me one way or the other…

  • +4

Received store allocation on my order probably over 24 hours ago, but no further sign of anything happening in terms of a tracking number or dispatch notice. If they don't have stock they must know it by now, so they need to refund people if that is the case.

    • +1

Relax, lets hope that they are trying to find a way to get stocks

      • +6

Ha, I'm a realist. A "clearance" sort of implies that they won't be getting any more stock. I just strongly object to companies taking your money and sitting on it while they clean up their mess. The PayPal payments are "completed" (not "pending" until dispatch) meaning they have taken your money, but aren't actioning anything, nor communicating any status. If one store is being allocated 300 orders there are going to be a lot of disappointed people.

        • My allocated store told me yesterday morning, "Whether we can fulfill your order or not, we will call everyone this afternoon either way to let them know." They never called. I can only assume this means they still don't know what to do.

        • +2

I spoke to someone at my allocated store (which is supposedly some kind of warehouse for GG) and they said they will ship out the stock they have but the rest is going on backorder and their head office is attempting to obtain more stock.

She said that its likely at least a few more of the orders will be filled but any they cant fill they will give refunds.

I dont mind really. Its the risk you take ordering decent titles at $10 from a forum post that 1000's would have seen. It's more embarrassing to read all the whining here about the orders TBH.

        • +2

How is it embarrassing? It makes for fantastic reading IMO no matter you're outlook on how they should do things resolves backlogs

      • They have just posted their Santa letters to the North Pole. You just never know!

  • +1

For their sake I do hope orders will be sent out. They definitely would not want the bad publicity and reputation right before Xmas.

    • Now that is leverage

  • +1

My 3 games were allocated to Melton, I've heard nothing yet. Anyone else get the same store?

    • +2

I did and I haven't heard anything yet.

  • +2

    Now I'm mad!

I call up my allocated store since they didnt call me yesterday as promised.

They transfer me to customer care, why should they when theyre the allocated store… anyway… im on hold for 10 mins, then customer care asks for my name and order# put me on hold for 5 mins and then hang up.

    • +1

Your allocated store in which state?

      • +6

        Auburn, NSW.

Just spoke to them again, same bs excuse of underestimated how many orders. They said theyll call me when they get the stock and said refund if they cant.

I asked them about how they would process orders and she said they wouldn't allow people who ordered many copies of the same game to have more than 1. So that at least is some good news.

        • +3

This is definitely good to hear.

        • A victory against Broden! Good to hear, but it would've been better if they got nothing ^-^

        • I have two copies of the same game sitting on my kitchen table for the kids?

  • +1

Yeah it's definitely a screw up

    • +2

Nah, I think an over commitment

You'd think they would have learnt from seeing place like Hardly's and/or good ole dickies come into strife when these type of things come up

… especially with a community like OzB now

I just think people need to remind themselves, its bargain hunting.
You are EVENTUALLY going to lose some

      • +3

It's more like your hoping to eventually win one in my case. I always seem to lose.
