Same as previous deals http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123081 & http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121123 only cheaper $449.05.

EDIT 8/12 now even cheaper $426.60 spotted by sheepy.

Edit 9/12 Now even cheaper again $405.27 spotted by tofuguts.

Even though it's a TV, it does not support the Australia DVB-T system.
Seiki are supposed to be coming to Australia next year, so will likely be a DVB-T version then.

People here buy this now as it is a cheap Ultra High resolution monitor, as it supports 3840 X 2160 pixels.

This is the lowest price ever on Amazon.

If like me you purchased the set previously from Amazon you can request that they refund the difference under their Low Price Guarantee (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=2…). But you only get one go at it. so if the price keeps dropping you will not get another price match (unless you ask really nicely).

  • Thanks for the price update. I ordered the TV on November 18 but I only received it on the 27th. Hopefully they will still refund the difference (email sent).

    • how is 4k video (BR?) playback - smooth?

    • .

      • Sweet I just got an email from amazon and they are going to refund the difference.

voter1: I wouldn't use these TV's for watching TV or Video. You can notice the jerky playback @ 30hz. These should mainly be used as computer monitors for people who need more screen space.

  • Awesome deal.

  • How do you fix the voltage issue?

    • There is no voltage issue, you just need a US to AU plug adaptor.

      • +2

Sorry just to get this right, are you saying that this TV is multi voltage?

        • I think it is like PC PSU, it range between 110v-240v

        • Yes it is multi voltage. You just need a US to AU plug adaptor (one that allows an enlarged end on one prong).

        • I sent an email to Amazon customer service just to check and they came back to me say it's 110v only.

In Q&A some say it supports 240v and some don't, quite confusing.

        • +1

Amazon also say that they don't ship this overseas. Anyway the label on the back of the set that Amazon sent me 2 weeks ago says 100-240V 50/60HZ and works fine.

  • Priority delivery is only ~$30 more, I'd say that's worth it.

    • regular shipping takes one week, so if you're a true OzBargainer, you'd save the $30.

      • AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping (averages 8-16 business days)

        Estimated delivery: Dec. 19, 2013 - Jan. 2, 2014

Sounds more like 2-4 weeks to me.

The priority delivery, for an extra $30, is under 1 week:

        • Well I can only go on how long it took for mine to arrive. Ordered 19 November, arrived 26 November for US$117.62.

  • How are OzBargainers getting these shipped?

"Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S."

    • +2

It says that they only ship to the US, but they do actually post internationally (I bought one already).

      • I've tried to check out the 50" and Amazon says they won't deliver to my address.

The 39" seems to work today. But I'm not too keen on buying one until the firmware fix for 1080p at 120Hz is out.

  • +2

The 50-Inch TV is also down to $692.93 (54% off). It is supposed to have a much better panel in it as well.

    • I can get the 39"er posted but not the 50"er…

      • Sorry, they might not post the 50" TV. I only tried the 39" TV.

  • So if I plug in an Xbox One into it via HDMI will it broadcast in 4k? I assume the XBone supports 4k @ at least 60hz for the menu's and dashboard but then will do 1080p @60hz when playing games? Or will it upscale the 1080p game to 4K?

Also, I'm happy to look at either the 39" or 50" panel here because i know where's a slight difference in the panel quality between the two and the 39" is still waiting a firmware update of some sorts.

    • +2
      • Doubt the wallpapers and ui are in 4k. 1080p all the way unless bluray in 4k (when it comes out).
      • This tv doesn't do 4k@60fps, only 30fps due to hdmi 1.4. Its either 120fps at 1080p or below and 30fps above 1080p
      • -1

HDMI 2.0 is already out so you can enjoy 4k@60fps =)

        • +4

Except this TV doesn't support HDMI 2

        • +7

The human eye can physiologically detect up to 1000 frames per second. The average human, tasked with detecting what framerate he/she is looking at, can accurately guess up to around 150 fps. That is, they can see the difference in framerates all the way to 150 fps.

"The USAF, in testing their pilots for visual response time, used a simple test to see if the pilots could distinguish small changes in light. In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to "see" the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to percieve 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS."

          Now you learned something today…

        • +6

Your eyes cannot see 60fps. There is really zero benefit for 60fps.

If you can't see the difference between 30 and 60 fps, go see an optometrist.

Go watch a movie on bluray, then watch Bold and the Beautiful right next to it. See the difference? thats 24fps vs 50/60fps.

        • +2

Most films are not shot in 50/60fps they are shot in 24fps same as TV shows, unless bold and the beautiful is in 60fps now? The Hobbit is the first feature film to be shot in 60fps

        • -1

          That's what Krisspy is saying.
          Movie on Bluray = 24hz
          B&B = ~50/60hz.

        • Actually its 48fps.

        • +1

Wukachuka, Thanks for your well researched data point. I stand corrected about the human eye and 60fps.

Obviously this spurred a number of responses which led me to spend another 20mins or so reading. Note: I am still on a ancient but trusty 1080i Sony Wega 34XBR970 (the last of the 1080i CRTs) ISF calibrated.

          1. Read a review for the 50in model: http://hdguru.com/review-seiki-se50uy04-4k-ultra-hdtv-its-14… ; YMMV.

          2. I always wondered the B&B comment (which I assumed is the 'soap opera' visual effect) is NOT 60fps. Let me know if I am mistaken. Many flat panels today employ some post processing to create this "soap opera" visual effect which in my opinion, ruins the content.

          3. I was excited about the comment about 60fps sources of the Hobbit… which led me to find 2 clips on the net. One was the 60 fps Hobbit trailer and the other, the exact same trailer but in 24fps cinematic motion.

Unfortunately, my movie player was NOT able to play the 60fps trailer. I don't know what additional decoder I need to install but, thanks to the person who pointed out that a 60fps Hobbit trailer exists.

        • I'm fairly certain that all HFR versions of The Hobbit (trailers, full movies etc) on the internet are just ones that people have converted from the 24fps footage. As far as I know, the 48fps film hasn't been released on any medium aside from being shown in cinemas.
This means the 'upscaled' footage won't be quite as good as the stuff filmed in 48fps, as they use programs to convert from 24-48fps which have to essentially guess what is inbetween each frame.
Although I would love to be corrected, re: 48fps not being released on bluray/leaked on the internet.

        • Hobbit was 4k/48fps.

Edit: In theatres only, bluray never had the HFR version. Unless you're talking about 3D in active tvs, they're 48fps essentially.

        • What I mean is that there hasn't been a release of the HFR version shown in cinemas.
And sure, 3D is 48fps but you'll only see it as 24fps.

        • No such thing as XBR CRT in Australia. These models were simply sold as the EH and HR model WEGAs in Australia (I have/had both of them). The model number you're referring to does not exist in AUS.

        • Huh? PAL TV is 25 fps. Where are you getting 50/60 from?

        • Digital TV stations definitely broadcast in 50hz AND 25hz.

        • No they do not. They broadcast 576i and 1080i at 50 fields (not frames per seconds) which is really a nett result 25 full frames but provides more like 50 frames per second with a good de-interlacer.

There are no 25 frames per second broadcasts in Australia.

        • That's what I meant to say - replying to MrZ re: no 50hz PAL TV.

        • MrZ, Very sharp eye. I am liking Ozbargainers already! Smart fellas here…

I am originally from Melbourne but working/living in California. I am back home onlyfor a couple of months…

  • Ordered, hopefully it runs 1080p @ 120hz without frameskipping >_<

  • Has anyone tried contacting Amazon regarding shipping restrictions for the 50' when 39' doesnt have any?

    • Yes, I have had 2 different answers.

      1. 50" TVs come with in home installation and this can't be done in Australia. I can't find any reference to in home install on the 50" seiki page. I told them that I didn't care about install I just wanted delivery, still no go.

      2. The manufacturer does not allow distribution to Australia. I pointed out that the 39" I bought also said US only, but was shipped by Amazon. They then said the restriction must be for the 50" unit only.

I don't think either is actual real answer, but either way I could not force them to take my money.

  • How do you guys estimate your shipping?

    • Create an account with Australian address and add to cart. You will also find out there if they will ship it at all.

    • Seems to be US$117.62 to most major cities.

  • +2

Forget playing games on it at 4k res. this is nothing but a Dev monitor for me :-$

    • Was wondering the same thing - what would this be like for development - visual studio, eclipse etc?

  • Dam I ordered this on a black friday deal. Paid 484 for it and they didn't allow me to get the low price guarantee.

    Low Price Guarantee Eligibility
TV Low Price Guarantee applies to TVs sold and shipped by Amazon.com. However, time-limited sales events (such as Lightning Deals, Goldbox Deals, Black Friday, "early bird" or "door buster" offers, 24-hour sales), offers advertised as limited in quantity, clearance, liquidation and going-out-of business sales, and loyalty program offers are ineligible for the Guarantee.

    • +1

despite the terms, did you try?

      • +2

when i did try that was the message that came up. but I did send them an email.

EDIT: Just got an reply saying they would refund it :)

  • Pull the trigger, will use it as a pc monitor :)
Now need to find a graphics card to drive this monster.

    • Gtx 780 Ti x 2. ;)

      • +1

290/290X's are better at 4k and currently crossfire scales far better with two cards. With the money saved install water cooling :)

        • Is it necessary to use two cards?

I just want the cheapest card as I don't play games at all :)

        • +1

You would only need one(GTX780 / 290) to get 30fps in games. Should be able to go as low as a GTX 650Ti to just display 4k.

        • +1

I use a single ATI 7850 to drive this display. You can pick them up from $139 on static ice.

        • That sounds not too bad!
Does it play movie smoothly on 4k mode?

        • I don't have any 4K movies, but it plays Youtube 4k clips fine.

        • +1

Sorry I didn't make it clear.

I was wondering how does it go with 1080p movie playing full screen in 4k.

        • The 7850 handles 1080p easily.

        • Stupid question maybe, but if you're giving this TV a 1080P input, will it look the same as giving a 1080p TV a 1080P input?

Like, playing a 1080P movie thru a computer set at a res of 1920*1080 through this 4K screen.

        • My reply was regarding the 7850's ability to play 1080P, not the TV.

If you watch a 1080p movie via a PC, chances are you are already using 3840 x 2160 for your desktop. so the PC will upscale any content to that resolution.

If you plug a BR DVD player into the TV, then the TV will upscale 1080p to UHD, the picture quality is no better or worse. Much the same as watching a regular 576p DVD on a 1080p TV.

        • Thanks petestrash, you are very helpful.

  • Can it play video from USB at 4k/120hz?

    • +1

      It can't do 4k at 120mhz. Only 30mhz for 4k. At 1080p it can do 120mhz

      • +1

That's the HDMI 1.4 limitation, but I'm actually asking if it can do 4k/120hz through USB storage instead of HDMI port, it got two usb ports to connect to USB storage I believe.

        • No.
Even usb3 is not fast enough for that.
          But…
Theres a company developing a device called displaylink which can cram it through there ;D
          It's not out yet though…

          http://www.tomshardware.com/news/displaylink-4k-video-usb-3.…

        • USB 3 is nowhere near enough.
          HDMI 1.4 - max bandwidth: 8.16Gbit/s
          USB 3.0 - max bandwidth: 5Gbit/s
          Display port 1.2 - max bandwidth: 17.28 Gbit/s

          Theoretical maxes of course.

I have tried 1080p through USB 3.0, theres input lag and the image quality degrades a fair bit since the video feed needs to be re sampled for transmisson. Fine for movies and what not, don't bother gaming on it.

        • What 4k movies do u have in the first place?!!?!??!

        • Re-reading the specs, it seems to say it can't play video off the usb at all, says "only jpg,mp3"

  • +4

7/9/10 still broadcasting 576i from 1956… how long until they switch to 4K? Rofl.

    • They can't broadcast higher as the frequencies are still being used for analog TV. Once analog TV shuts down this month then they can use the newly available bandwidth for higher res channels.

      • +2

Once the analog TV shuts down those frequencies will be used for 4G networks(which have already been auctioned off). And the Digital and analog TV frequencies are completely different. So no there will be no newly available bandwidth for higher res channels

      • Sorry Agret you're completely wrong, dy4me is correct. Analogue channels were shut down in Perth in April I believe already.

And even if they were given more bandwidth, they'd use it to add more stupid shopping channels rather than improve the quality of their SD and HD channels. With Australian FTA it's quantity (of crap) over quality.

And then they wonder why we prefer to download shows, when they're are 10x better quality.

  • shame they are not posting the 50inch. just to clarify it'll take inputs fine won't it, i.e. HDMI, AV etc?

  • Can anyone figure out if we can get the 50" delivered?

  • +2

Hows the quality? Never heard of them before.

Hooking up PVR with HDtuner solves TV incompatible problem

  • How much are samsungs charging for one of these extra $200-300 ?

    • +2

Try an extra $2700 for their cheapest 120hz 4k tv.

  • -1

What? Then how are these guys making any money at all? Price differnce is entirely on a different level. Must be losing money or just having a promo just to make their name recognised.

    • The 2 products would be absolute worlds apart, both software and hardware.
Having said that though, this is a very nice price for a 4k pc monitor, if you need the screen real estate.

    • This is a rather entry level 4k model, no fancy features such as smart tv, 3d, youtube, etc, etc.

      • Correct. But if you have something that can output 4k, I'm guessing it can also output YouTube.

  • 30hz @ 4k ewww, wouldnt touch this for a monitor to be honest. great price though.

  • +1

Price even better now, reduced to $426.60!

The difference is almost enough to cover the additional cost of express shipping ($23 in my case).

  • Dupe. Mods - delete.

  • Bought 2 for PC workstation monitor.

  • Its so tempting. But 30hz doesn't seem good enough.
Hopefully something like this will show up again with 60hz in the near future.

one good thing about the cheaper brands for gaming is that they don't bother with fancy scalers so there's even less input lag than the 'better' tvs.

  • Just bought one… the missus won't be happy when she gets home. She has a 51inch Plasma in her living room, I have a 64inch in mine. But this will be replacing my 32inch screeen that I bought from DSE as a PC monitor.

Might download a few 4k demo clips or something to check it out, but it's too small to make the most of Ultra HD for a TV. The added resolution for a PC monitor will be great though. :-) Hope my Radeon HD7950 is powerful enough to pump out that resolution. I'm sure it will struggle for games, but I'll just run them at 1080p if so.

    • +1

Braved raising the purchase with the missus before pulling the pin, amazingly she did not veto it. 8-) says it will be my Xmas present. Now I just have to explain the MyUS shipment that will turn up this week after the Black Friday sales 8-)

      • +1

Did you buy the 50" version? If so could you please share how much it will cost for the postage with MyUS?

        • No the 39", delivery via Amazon.

    • How many living rooms do you have?

      • Just the two. The second living room could really be used for anything though. I use it as my mancave, keeping all the stuff she really doesn't like me having in the main living area. Instead hers is full of our one year olds toys while mine remains spotless. :-)

    • I'm using a 7850, so you should be fine with the 7950.
