No HDMI output. How old is this?!

    • Most TV's that have HDMI inputs would already have a digital tuner built in.

      • But useful for adapting a computer monitor to TV use. Added a PVR to my monitor & got rid of the TV.

    • It says it has hdmi on the second line of the feature list

I'm an idiot today - thanks kabigon. Comment retracted.

      .
No USB to record or playback, must be fairly old as they all have USB now
      .

      • Old & REFURBISHED!!

  • Melbourne was the last major city to change over.
In another month or two these boxes will be $5/free/unsellable.

    • hmm Government is giving them out for free?
I thought the government only gave them out for free for Pensioners not for everybody.

      • Only those on FULL Pension.

But that was not what was referred to in the comment.

With the hype, many will now ditch their old analog TVs with added STB, and buy a digital TV. There is not much need to keep an unwanted STB.

FreeCycle already lists some free STBox (if you take the bulky TV). More will show up on kerb side pickups.

So check for free ones first.

        • Just make sure you check for police first…

Technically speaking anything on the kerb side is property of the council and police has the right to fine you.

This old one… been discussed on OB a few times.

Check with your council - mine encourages recycling, reduced landfill, and kerb side waste reallocation which saves council a lot of cleanup costs.

"Technically speaking anything on the kerb side is" littering "and police has the right to fine you."

By the way, lplau you misunderstood the post you responded to. The rules are usually different for a special event like cleanups.

          A happy recycler :-)

        • So am I Bruce! Sometimes I find items I was planning on buying like widescreen monitors, lcd tvs, and furniture. And all of them have worked! I guess it depends on the area you live in. But where I live the neighbours are happy for you to take their stuff from the kerb.

Who in the world watches free to air anymore? We're in the 21st century, we have cable and satellite.

Who in the world watches cable and satellite anymore? We're in the 21st century, we have the internet.

      • Exactly. So why watch TV at all? You are only re-enforcing my argument.

        • 3,500,000 FTA viewers of Masterchef final may disagree ;-) I wasn't one.

I have dusty copies of books like "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" on my shelves.

No one is forcing anyone to watch. It's a choice. I prefer to travel, so have only seen a few hours of Australian FTA in 3 months. (Japanese FTA is more interesting & strange.)

Most FTA is shit imo, but people do still watch it. But when it's good, it can be bloody good. So I am still an occasional but happy viewer, thanks to my PVRecorder.

This may not be the latest technology, but it's OK for many people.

Most people still watch some FTA.

I'd say anyone who wants one of these USED & REFURBISHED boxes (probably to add to an old analog TV) would probably not have cable, satellite, nor internet connection with download capacity to use it as their only source for information & entertainment.

  • Hands up if you paid $600+ for a HD STB back in the day?
