Live Connected Rapid M Plans eg $19.90/Month $650/1.5GB/Unlimited SMS Free LC2LC

840

Hi, Just noticed that Live Connected are upping their prices as of the 1st of Jan 2014. At the current prices their service is definitely a bargain. At the prices as of 1/1/2014 they are definitely NOT a bargain.

I confirmed that if signed up with them before the 1/1/14 you get to keep the 2013 rates for 24 months. Also there's not lock in contract too which is cool.

The 'sweet spot' for me is the Rapid M plan which is $19.90 per month and includes:

  • $650 calls
  • unlimited LC2LC calls
  • unlimited SMS
*1.5GB of data (billed in KB increments and sessions… which is good)

I have got a few family members onto them and we're all happy with them at the 2013 prices. We keep tabs on data/calls/etc with MyLC iPhone app.

The SIM card was express posted the next day to me too, so there should be time to get this deal if it suits someone.

Hope it helps :)

Vaya and other optus resellers are all doing the same.

Now looks like a good time to jump on the sub $20 optus reseller plans if you have been thinking about it.

    • +2

I'm on LC's old $10.99 plan - which is essentially the same as the current $19.90 but without 4G. Is there any chance that price will end and I'll have to upgrade soon anyway? If so, I should probably jump on the current $19.90 plan while I've got the chance.

      • +3

        i'm on the old $15.99 plan. $650/2gb 3g

when i reached the 24 month mark, they changed me to $650/1.5gb 4g but still at the $15.99

        you'll prob endup with $500/1gb with 4g for $10.99

        • +2

I was wondering why my quota got reduced!

Therefore I can conform (being on the $10.99) plan also, your quota will be reduced to 1GB but the rest remains the same, as reflected below on my invoice (the $450 is because it's an older variant of the plan)

          http://imageshack.com/a/img585/848/3w17.jpg

We also have unlimited social, which I think has disappeared from current plans?

That makes this plan about twice as good as anything currently available, and further attractive after 1/1/14.

        • +1

When did your quota reduce? I'm on the Diablo Rosso Medium Series II when it was on sale for $9.99 and my last invoice still has 1.5 GB data.

        • +1

It happened about 3 months ago I think, whenever 24 months from sign-up date occurs I believe.

        • +2

So do you have 4G now, Click_It? It's not a problem for me as my Galaxy Note doesn't have it - and I don't plan on upgrading in the next 12 months unless something drastic happens.

It seems like I'll be better off sticking with my current plan as I usually don't even get close to 1GB or $500 in calls/texts. I really like my $10.99/month phone bill (and telling people about it).

        • +1

I am past 24 months since signing up but the quota hasn't reduced for me.

  • +4

Vaya do $18 for the same value

    • +19

Vaya own Live Connected. Last time I checked Vaya still bill data per MB.

      • +3

The issue is not that they bill per MB, rather that they encapsulate sessions into 1MB blocks, so just checking your e-mail uses 1MB.

        • +3

          The difference being?

        • +6

If you use 10KB one hour and then 10KB the next hour, it'll equal 2MB usage (two different sessions). Others will just look at your usage (20KB) and round up to the nearest block (1MB).

        • +1

I am with Vaya, and I don't think I get the data calculated on MB. I had a MB plan on a tablet, and it easy chew up 32MB per day. I have vaya on the phone with sync activated, and if just reading emails, almost no usage. Vaya is good choice for Data.

        • +3

You may be on an old plan before the 1 MB rip off started.

        • +2

I'd support that. other than being unethical (ie. you're paying for huge amounts of data you're not using), i'd be much higher on my data usage than I currently am.

I've recently put a few friends onto Vaya instead of Live Connected because it's cheaper - and I can't pick the difference.

        • +3

          The difference being?

Thousands of dollars on your bill, potentially.

One of my clients had a phone using tiny bits of internet every few seconds - total was only about 10 MB for the month, but they billed the client for hundreds of MB, way over their limit, because they rounded up each tiny bit to a full megabyte.

          Cost them a fortune.

        • -7

          Almost.

I think a session = 1 day. So 30mb a month. I've never seen the usage much different than I've actually used.

Prove to me that what they call a session is any less than 24 hours?

        • +1

It's also much harder to check with your android data limiter whereas per kb is pretty much on bar with Live Connected. (LC user here)

        • +1

          @mgowen:

I think B0M8 meant that "billing per MB", in this context at least, means the same thing as "encapsulating sessions into 1MB blocks".

        • Yes that is correct. I was replying to Sturmeh who compared the two.

    • +1

Yes but no $7 bolt on.

    • +1

But will Vaya put up their price for existing customers? I'm still on $11.

When Vaya jumped price to $17 last time, my plan stayed at $11. But I haven't been with them for >24 months.

      • +1

They will only change the price once the 24 months are up.

  • +1

I'm still on $13/month for the same inclusions as above from their old plans, will this go up too?

    • +7

Heh, I'm still on $11/mo for the 1.5 GB plan. The price shouldn't increase for existing customers as far as I know.

      • +1

i put my dad on that one, the extra $2 is good for those 13/1300 numbers. good we got in early the new prices are shocking, optus 4G doesn't even cover my area

      • +6

I was also on the $11.90 plan until last week. Decided the 4g was worth the extra $8 per month. Glad I did cause it's freaking fast! :)

        • +1

I'm on the 10.99 a month plan with LC and they dropped my quota to 1gb but supposedly sped it up to 4g but I can't seem to get 4g anywhere in Sydney.

Is it in very specific place or do we have to activate it?

        • +1

I also upgraded from one of the old plans - agree that the 4G is very fast in comparison :)

        • +2

According to their CEO on Whirlpool you need a SIM replacement to get the 4G. Should be free, but good luck getting a customer service agent who knows anything about it. This only applies to "loyalty" plans, where they have reduced your data allowance after 24 months.

        • +1

Oh darn it. I know their customer service has gone down the drain with vaya having taken over but I'll give it a shot anyway. Thanks.

      • +2

Once you sign a plan. That will remain there at least for 24 months.
I am not sure if the old $11/month used to charge data based on MB sessions.

Live connected doesn't have a help line to call where as vaya does have one.

        • +2

Live connected does have a help line, it patches to vaya (parent company)
All these people saying 24 months then the change your plan have beep duped!
I've been with them for nearly 4 years and receive the same bill 12 times a year, as does all members of my family and all my friends who use it.
If they changed your plan they broke their agreement with you.
Call them or open a ticket and tell them to change you back

      • +1

I'm also on the $11/mo plan, approaching almost 24 months now. Is there any official statement from them that our plan won't change? Also, do you know if anything changes after you hit 24 months? Someone mentioned that they drop your data allowance to 1GB but change it to 4G speeds?

        • +1

hope not, I want the 1.5gb and my galaxy s3 is only 3G

  • +1

" if signed up with them before the 1/1/14 you get to keep the 2013 rates for 24 months."

Only 24 months? not for life? sigh …
gone are the good ol days of $7-11 plans eh

    • +1

      oh thats crap

well then i finally have an excuse to get 4g then lol

are there any cheap 4g providers?

    • +1

If it's only for 24 months, there's no point in using Vaya or Liveconnected anymore. Back to the regular carriers.

Either that or I will hit prepaid again.

  • -3

kB billing fine, though I tend to take 5gb as minimum for any smart-phone service Today.

    • +5

They track quite accurately, Android says I've used 262 MB and the website says I've used 233. (Past 24 hours usage was 29 MB on Android, so that hasn't reflected in LC yet.)

      • +1

I was in agreement that its accuracy is fine. Rather for Data allowances — 1.5/1gb-may be looking sub-par, with incoming 4G, but especially considering deprecated old Woolies did incorporate eg. 5GB($24.80), Aldi had 5GB, while voda fone is permitting up to 10.8/$30. Although those are data centric /Pre paid options, they highlight a leading class for at least more user types.

  • +1

Tempting to jump from TPG $17.90 plan to this, unfortunately the $650 does not include International calls.

Hows the support compared to TPG?

I'm disappointed at TPG charging $500 for switching on international roaming and barring my service for several days for exceeding data before my my direct deposit payment have gone through.

    • +2

TPG is really crap lately, I have moved all my family to LC.

    • +1

Haha, only upon exiting TPG did I truly realise how horrible they were.

I had to hit up TIO to reverse about $40 worth of charges they hit me with on the way out.

    • +1

well if you want international roaming on with LC, you'd have to pay for a $200 bond. Found that out while I was OS. I didn't proceed when a mate of mine told me he tried doing that, paid the bond never had his roaming enabled, and he couldn't get support.

    • +1

Does LC offer international roaming? I had to port from LC to Vaya a while back cos they stopped offering roaming.

    • +1

Cheaper to forward your calls to a virtual number like a skype number then forwarding those calls to a local prepaid. Just not worth the hassle turning on roaming.

  • +4

Wow, the new $19 (which is the cheapest) plan only gives 300MB of data compared to 1.5GB. You have to spend $29 to get the same amount of data, cheap plans gone…

Thanks for the head up bellpop.

    • +1

Was about to say the same! why are data getting more expensive these days…

      • +5

Tell me about it. I miss kogans 6gb a month on the Telstra network for $25 a month.

      • +2

I think it would be that before the data pipe was half empty so they could afford to flood it with cheap plans. Now the data pipe is full so they have to charge full price in order to pay for expanding network capacity.

    • +1

      No worries :)

  • +1

So this or Vaya for 4G or a different carrier/reseller? Vaya CS told me LC charges in MB and the website was wrong.

    • +3

LC definitely meters in kB increments.

The Android data usage monitor matches the website exactly.

    • +2

They told me the same, but the LC website PDF document for the plan states it in KB.
      http://www.liveconnected.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/C…

I recently checked my usage and it is per KB. It will be like that for atleast 24 months I suppose as that is what I signed for.

  • +10

so happy to still be on the $11 1.5gb plan

  • +1

Costs extra $20 for SIM card :/

    • +2

Oh well, even with the $20 fee it's still cheaper than one month on Vodafone

Bit the bullet — thanks OP!

  • +1

    Is it 4G Optus network?

    • +1

      Yeah it is.

But Optus 4G is terrible. Can hardly get single in doors/Melbourne CBD and very slow data speeds VS Telstra and Vodafone 4G.

If you are price concious this is the best option, but if you want a more reliable service. You would need to pay in excess of $40 for something similar.

      • +1

Is it still any better compared to Vodafone 3G?

        • +1

I was with Vodafone. Though that was terrible for signals going very frequently in train, but this one does not seem to be any better.

      • +3

I'm on LC in Newcastle and I get fast 4G all the time. It probably depends on where you live.

  • +1

excuse my ignorance, whats the difference between the old and new with Vaya, the Power Plan 18 looks exactly the same?

  • +1

Bugger. I just signed my wife up to the $19.95 plan but my current contract is not up until April..

It might be worth exiting my contract now… thanks for the heads up OP!

  • +1

Does anyone know if unused data rolls over to next month? I'm currently on the woolworths mobile $29 deal but am considering swapping over to this. Price is almost identical except liveconnected gives slightly more calls but 1.5gb data instead of 5…

    • +1

      No it does not.

  • +1

Does the $650 credit includes international calling ? Or is it additional charge ? Thanks

    • +3

No, it does not include international calling. It is the one thing stopping me from changing over.

    • +1

Doesn't include international calling, but does include international SMS & MMS.

      • -2

It doesnt include international SMS and MMS

        • So is there any way to send international SMS?

        • Yes it does include international SMS and MMS.

Here is a link to the Critical Information Summary:
          http://www.liveconnected.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/C…

        • +2

Under the question, "What's included in standard credit?" it says:
Standard credit includes calls and SMS to Australian mobile and fixed line numbers including 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers. It also includes MMS, Video Calling, Voicemail and SMS to International phones.

          and then

          "What's excluded in standard credit?"

All international calls, calls and SMS made whilst Roaming overseas…

          so.
No, it does not include international calls.
It does include international SMS though @SickDmith.

        • +1

          This is correct

  • +1

Got a Samsung Note 3 a month ago, ported to LC and couldn't be happier. Same coverage as my previous Optus network at around one third of the price

    • +2

They're just passing the cost on to the consumer (registered post?, sim card and printing?, activating with Optus?). In balance of all things, I'm sure you would still get more benefit from the relatively low priced plans even with the $20 sim charge.

    • +1

It used to be a $20 refundable deposit, but then people complained so they changed it to a non-refundable fee. Can't please everyone!

  • +1

Actually the grandfather plans were better. eg. $12 Medium plan, just without 4G

  • +1

back in my days. These plans were only $16

    • +6

Whippersnapper. Back in my day, they started at $7

      • +1

Try $5. Edit : actually, that was for the low end. Medium was about $7 or $8.

        • +1

I'm still on the $4.99 plan. Thinking of moving to the $19.99 plan now before they put up the prices.

        • +1

So you must have been on it for > 24 months? And they haven't forced you to change?

        • +1

They just keep reducing your data every 24 months.

        • +4

back in '68 I was on the 17 cent stamp plan

        • +1

I have been on for nearly 4 years, no change, same price. Same data and calls

        • +1

Nope, they haven't forced me to change at all.

  • +1

how are these compared to those on the telstra network? in terms of value?

aldi? or telstra prepaid? i know they are not entirely comparable being on different networks.

wanna go telstra for the coverage.

  • +1

Only thing stopping me from joining, no international calls included. Otherwise great!

    • +2

For International calls I use Rebtel on my mobile. Great value

    • +2

I use skype $25 value for the price just $12.5…see ozb post many 50% offer for this. Stock them and will last longer.

  • +2

If I sign up now, will it immediately switch over my number to LC (and so I will be coverage-less until my new SIM is mailed out), or do I get the opportunity to activate my new SIM card once I receive it in the mail?

The reason I ask is because its asking me for the number to port over, when I sign up…. and I don't want to port over until I get the new SIM!

    Thanks.

    • +2

Chat with the live support, also think its in their FAQ section.

Checked with them last week TPG > LC will take 3-4 days as porting from Optus to Optus takes longer.

    • +4

Nothing happens until after you receive the sim.

The new one doesn't work until it is activated. So they will cancel your old one and enable your new one at the same time. There might be 24 hours or so where you're without a phone.

Put on your caveman suit. You'll survive.

Edit: I was optus (virgin) -> optus (vaya) too.

      • +1

        cool, thanks bro

    • +2

Nope, you wait until you receive the SIM, then go onto the LC site and activate it then.
