  • Can you get education pricing on this?

Thinking of getting this and selling my MacBook Air 2012? Ummm, very confusing.

      you're insane

  • Whats the diff between these and the pro 2's?

    • +6

Pro 2's have much better battery life, newer CPU and 2 stage kickstand.

      • I heard the Pro 2's are considered to be what the Pro 1 should have been, in otherwords the Gen1 didn't sell too well.

If true, we could expect lower prices to come sooner than later.

        • keep expecting. the surface RT original went to about ~$220 not too long ago as a clearing old stock sale. it's jumped right up to ~$350 + now. so if you're looking to buy this I'd buy it now tbh

nice deal especially if you know someone with an edu.au address.
Im waiting to Jan 1st to get the surface pro 2 256gig that seems to be the sweet spot

Considering how bad sales of Surface are, I think we can expect the price to be much lower after the holidays.

They sales of the old Surfaces may be bad, but the Surface Pro 2, Surface 2 seem to be sold out everywhere, worldwide. This may be due to scaled back pre-built inventory leading up to Christmas.

In the end, if you like it and can find it useful, buy it.
If you don't like it, move on.

If you're hoping for it to get cheaper, I doubt if they will keep building the old ones and sell it a loss. If they don't move, the price will keep going down until the inventory is gone.

The Surface Pro (old model) probably isn't made (in volume) any more, so they will be run out until there is no longer any inventory.

I think there will be either a stash, or a production line to crank out refurbs/replacements for the next two/three years or so (the warranty is to Feb 2016 for most of the devices). Just like the Xbox line.

      • I spoke to a guy in Harvey Norman today; apparently Surface 2 sales are going great. Unsure how much truth there is but it's promising.

    • see my comment above. I honestly don't think you can expect the price to be much lower after the holidays.

Reviews I read - particularly winsupersite - say Surface Pro is a tablet only basically
Surface Pro 2 is good enough for a laptop replacement
I will hold out till new year when the competiting products from Dell etc start driving the prices down to laptop level

  • I bought mine on Thursday, SP1 128GB with 3 year warranty for $920 from HN. No regrets at all. It's definitely no slouch or tablet like in performance. After tweaking its power settings I can get upto 7.5 hours with light use and 4 hours with heavy. An easy saving of $330 over the virtually identical SP2!
