Don't forget the $30 gift card (for spending over $100) if you pay with a MasterCard at JB Hi-Fi: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127701

    • Is this really valid in combination with the Surface buy? Can anyone confirm?

  • +2

    I am seeing this everywhere

but i can't see why this would be a good buy.
can't even get firefox or google chrome on this thing.

What other tablet has Office 2013 preinstalled for free?

      • True that is useful.
i was just worried about it's lack of being able to change to a better browser like firefox or chrome.
        and lack of apps

        • +2

@Bargain4U Anyone who is serious about comparing the two would probably be wise not to rely on ads by either company. (I like how the Surface RT somehow grows in size from 0:17 onwards.) ;)

This isn't a good buy - at this price it's a great buy! I was a Surface RT naysayer too, until I got one, but there's no going back to Android after a couple of weeks using one of these.

The Surface RT has excellent build quality, Win RT 8.1 works brilliantly, Office (especially Excel) is a fantastic bonus and Microsoft's app store is chock-full of good quality stuff, with more arriving daily. I'm a hardcore Firefox fan from way back, but Internet Explorer 11 seems like an OK browser to me. I certainly don't miss Chrome - Google's incessant campaign to drag users of their software into the Google+ swamp is rapidly turning me off all of their products.

Couldn't agree more. I've owned iOS and Android, dubiously bought a Surface and now I'm a total convert too! Surface is definitely understated.

      • Does watching youtube or streaming movies on the web browser on it lag?

also memory i know it has mucri ad card slot but how much memory it left on the device?

also does it accept hard drives?
        via the usb port?
i havee a 2tb portable external hard drive.

        i currently have a galaxy tab 3 7"

No. Approximately 16 GB available for user content. Up to 64GB SD cards. Yes. Yes. OK. That's nice.

          Might help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9ncmUtIHpE

        • No offence mate

but any ads from the company selling a device always biased. they showing everything good about there device not the bad.

that is why i just asked this guy above a guy who can say first hand experiance.

        • No worries, just trying to help as I own one too. "@" are always good if didn't want anyone else to help.

Hey I bought one the last time this deal came around and I just bought another one now for my sis. I can answer your questions.

YouTube is fine on the browser but you may want to find an app in the store as you can't really block YouTube ads in IE10/11

It comes with 16gb free but after uninstalling apps like bing news/ and stuff, and removing the recovery partition, you'll end up with about 20gb free

You can use hard drives with the USB port, I use my surface RT to torrent and put all my files on my external hard drive :)

          Hope that helps

        • So theres an app for torrents?

also whats the games like for the store on the tablet?
i am not a huge tablet gamer or anything just like a few games when bored lol?

i am really consideing this tablet.
i love downloading torrents and streaming movies my android tablet cant stream via its web browser which sucks.

        • Yup quite a few of them in the store both paid and free, I'm currently using the paid version of Torrex, works well for me.

There's quite a few games, lots of big named ones like angry birds and cut the rope etc, lots of puzzle games as well, I don't really play much myself,

I haven't streamed movies but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, There's a full desktop browser with Flash support so you should be ok.

          awesome
I think i might actuly get one. unless i find some other reason why not to.
i can do evything my most used apps can do via a web browser and since it has the full brower on it should be fine.

i can survive with 15-20gb space.
can just gran an extra 32gb or cheap 64gb micro sd card.

cheers for all of your help.

        • You can also transfer file to your desktop, if that's more convenient for you.

I suggest you check out Sean Ong's Surface RT videos on YouTube - I think you'll be amazed by its actual capabilities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VYf5MWyTn8

His multi-tasking AND multi-screening demos are a revelation!

This isn't a good buy - at this price it's a great buy!

        Couldn't agree more.

Any reason why neither of you are voting positive on this deal? ;)

        • -1

Call me biased but I think my deal for $163 pickup is better.

        • are you assuming that you use 2 100$ vouchers?
i would consider that as $200 on the device with free 47$ voucher. voucher =/= cash to me

        • +1

          how is it $163 ?

        • Please elaborate, how can I get it for $163.00 ?

        • Use jbhifi bonus $30 deal you get $172 and apply another 5% some sort of cash back = $163?

  • Got one few weeks ago, good quality everywhere you look at it. Apps is the only things this tablet lacking.

  • If you people keep posting such positive reviews, I'm going to have to buy one.
Not really keen on the notion, since I already have my Tegra 3 Nexus 7 (feels like more of a side-step than an upgrade, if you get what I mean), but for $229? Ugh.

Don't get the touch keyboard though its HORRRRRRIBLE. You HAVE TO get the type one.

    • Specifically, the Type Cover 2 with backlighting - mmmm

  • +1

    Ahhh, gave in!

    Thanks OP,

    Cool Yule y'all….

  • +1

Bought one too with Type Cover.
This is something that I can use for serious stuff. It has USB that you can connect your external hardisk. Or if you travel with it, you can download your camera photos by inserting the camera memory card to it. What else? Oh yes, you can share your file with your desktop using file explorer. Try to do this in your iPad? No way.

  • Funny how the 64 gb with touch cover is cheaper than 32 with cover, although no stock

  • Harvey Norman has them on sale as well. $223 - same price as JB Hifi Harvey Norman seems to deliver for $6.95 to major metro areas.

    • If you sign up to HN you also get a $5 joining fee freebie, so $218 all up. Seriously considering one……mmmmm
