  • Really it is only 4 days and 4 nights. Last night is on the train. Once off the train, the tour finishes.

going to cost alot more when you get rolled on the train

    • Most certainly, but it rarely happens :-)

  • This fits almost perfectly into my plans.
If I arrive evening 3rd Feb, depart afternoon 8th, I would be able to squeeze this in won't I?

  • +1

    Hi williewuboy,

This will be fine, we can arrange that for you.

Please by return let me have your email or write us at [email protected]

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

  • No idea about the company of course but on face value this seems like a pretty good deal.
Perhaps a bit rushed, I can promise you that you will want more time in Sapa, but value for money for sure.
Yes you can backpack and book it yourself and get cheaper etc but if you are looking for a package, this isn't bad.
But if you do want to book it yourself, most inexpensive hotels in Hanoi are extraordinary friendly and helpful and will manage the whole thing for you from the front desk so you can make decisions based on weather and your mood if you have time.

  • +1

Very rushed. You really need at least two nights in halong to justify the 6-8 hour round trip. I can assure you the last thing you really want to be doing after coming back from halong is getting on a train.

    • +1

Yes, theworks, this is very rushed, could only be an option for people with not much time spared in Vietnam and do wish to see terraces in Sapa.

The extra night in Halong bay could be an option, however, according to our modest statistics, most tourist find the 1 night stay in Halong satisfactory.

You may find some other idea in this travel forum:

      http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293923-i9984-k3562543-…

Surchage for 1 night extra on Oriental Sails is:

      169 USD for Single cabin

      99 USD for shared cabin

The bus will drop you off at hotel in Hanoi at around 5 p.m, you will then have a short rest stay at the hotel for bath and refreshing, having dinner before being picked up at around 8.30 for the 9 p.m departure train ride to Sapa in a Deluxe 4 berth cabin on Orient Express train.

For those who want to include Sapa in their Vietnam experience, overnight train (9 hours) seems to be the only option, as not only you could save the time and money on overnight accommodation, but also the day train to sapa is slower, having hard seats only and mostly used by the local.

Having more than 10 hours on hard seat is a very demanding trip as you may imagine, and also only suitable with those who love to interact and blend with local people.

  • This might be great for you if you like organised tours. Myself, i think it is very rushed, and while it might seem chaotic, it is very easy to organise tours in Vietnam with the local tourist agents, and they will get you there. And they are cheap.

I would spend all that time in ha long bay, last time I was a week on Cat Ba island, fantastic place, incredibly beautiful, quiet, and so damn cheap.

Thanks for your compliment on Cat Ba, Hai Phong, which is my hometown.

When i was student, i used to spend my summer time at my sister's floating house in Cai Beo, rowing around on sampan and got excited when seeing tourist boats passing by.

I also recommend that for those who really want to have an in-depth Vietnam experience and have quite some flexible time to spend in Vietnam, they should do a free and easy style.

Having been working in tourism all along, i have traveled a lot, sometimes thanks to my former companies, sometimes, on my own.

I hardly ever booked a full packaged tour, but would prefer a free and easy option, taking day trips to attractions i really want to see or most likely suit my budget then, but it might not be the most economical, efficient way sometimes.

So for travelers, who would like a flexible holiday and not on a tight schedule, the option is not for you. Do some searching on travel forum, find a centrally located hotel, you will find many day tour providers just around the corner.

And remember to bargain hard, never buy things at your first stop and walk-away tactics works. :-)

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with the itenary, it is normal when you book a tour over there that Halong will be 2 days all up, 1 night on a junk. The overnight trip to Sapa is long enough that you will have a very good sleep.

All there is to do in Halong is sit on a boat……depends what your interest are, I would be bored spending much more than a day there. As for Sapa, I could spend more time there Hiking, it was awesome.

I actually think its pretty good that these 2 trips are combined, you don't waste any time going from 1 to the other.

As for price, well I can't remember how much it cost me but do your own research, AUD 337 is a lot of money in Nam and everything is negotiable if you book there.

      Hi Robbiejuve,

After further discussed with my team, as the tour rate is concerned,i can offer Ozbargainer airport pick-up and drop-off as well as a half day hotel stay when you get back from train station at around 4.30 a.m to hotel with breakfast inclusive at Twins hotel in this option.

All pick-up and drop off is with private car. Train drop off and pick up by our local guide.

That is our best effort for this package.
