Saw this on Twitter — Digital Ocean is giving $10 credit with coupon code 2014SSD. It's not a freebie though as you need to put in some credit to your account first (minimum $5 USD). Similar to their BlackFriday promotion although much less value (but promo still available 2 days after the above tweet).
$10 credit is good for 2 months of their most basic VPS (512MB RAM, 20GB SSD)
Referrer will receive $25 account credit for every referred that totals $25 in billings. Referee will receive $100/ 60 day credit.
You sign up an account (free). Then you update the billing details, where you can put in either your credit card or pay with PayPal. At the bottom of that page there's a field to put in coupon code.

I'm an existing user and managed to add the code and get $10 credit, I think it was in the Settings section but I can't remember as it's not visible now - I'm guessing once I'm in credit it doesn't show the option any more.

Usually if you add your Credit card when applying the coupon, you don't need to add account credit as such. DO will do a preauth of approx $1 though on the CC.
This deal is only available for new users or existing users who have never used a promo code before. Once you used any promo code with DO, you won't be able to do that again in the future.
They always have some sort of a free promo code for $10, you can usually find it on their twitter.
