Did any one receive the tv from the last deal? Anyone care to comment on the image quality? Also keep in mind that Kogan has a 55" 4K TV scheduled to launch for under AU$999 some time this or next month.

    • not sure why Kogan wants to go so cheap… what is Ruslan trying to do? he could have come out at $1999, made a huge profit, and still been the cheapest..

      • +1

maybe he wants to saturate the market of 4k tv's in Australia with a super-cheap price for the size of the tv?

      • +3

        That Ruslan Cray.

      • +5

@berger. Its all about getting market share. You introduce a bargain. everyone buys it. You get brand recognition and then go on to become a recognized brand. Plus why do you want him to rip us off like the other big companies do?

        • I know it's to get market share..

It's the same with Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths..

Offer pricing to squeeze competitors out. When they are the only supplier around, then prices go up!

I'm not saying that this will happen, but there isn't many TV suppliers in Australia as there used to be.. If lg/samsung cut out 4k televisions, then kogan will surely jack the prices up

      • +4

hes going to make a huge profit anyway. probably just sticking to his regular markup and scaring off other bottom-of-the-market competitors

    • I didn't see anything about Kogans 4K TV having HDMI 2.0… can anyone confirm if it does? If not only 30Hz at 4k.

  • Can I use this 120/240Hz 1080P TV ?

    • i think its 120Hz upto 1080p and then 30Hz at 4K

    • +2

      Can I use this 120/240Hz 1080P TV ?

No. It has a ATSC tuner which is the US standard, not Australian, so the tuner will be useless here.
You'll only get 60Hz from a 1080p input signal, or 30Hz from a UHD signal - over HDMI. The TV can use frame-doubling or frame interpolation but they'll never look as good as a true 120hz image. The 240Hz is just flashing the blacklight twice for every 120Hz frame - more a marketing trick than an actual image improvement.

not sure why Kogan wants to go so cheap

You can already buy 50" ATSC tuner UHD TVs for US$607, 55" with a DVB tuner for AUD$1k isn't outlandishly cheap.

he could have come out at $1999 made a huge profit, and still been the cheapest..

By all reports, Kogan's TVs are low quality. If you double the price, you better be offering a quality product or you'll have a lot of returns. I'd wait for the first reviews to start coming in before placing my order.

      • Ok, thank you!

      • I would see no point buying a new 4k tv for the next 5 years, at least. By then other suppliers will come down in price..

  • +1

I received mine today - I ordered it on Monday (before this deal, but luckily, Amazon will do a refund of the difference).

    Very happy.

Edit: Note - bought it to use as a Monitor, not as a TV.

    • whats your opinion? dont look like you mentioned too much on facebook. pros and cons!

      • +4

He's too busy touring with Matchbox 20 to leave a detailed opinion.

        • I lol'd!
          :)

        • Maybe hanging out with Veronica Mars instead?

          These ARE tempting.

      • It's worth it. Even at 30hz, for use as a non-gaming monitor, it's awesome.

Tips - Apply Firmware upgrade (using remote, [MENU] [0] [0] [0] [0] -> Firmware Update), Set 'sharpness' to 0, and turn the backlight down to about 30, so it's not so eye-wateringly bright.

    • +1 for doge!

  • there's no mention of 240V AC compatibility?
is it assumes that it'll work for Aussie voltage?

    • xrobau recieved his today and hasnt complained of any voltage incompatibility :)

      • yea i saw above, but just wanted to clarify or if he can state that they come out of box working for 100-240V?

        • +1

He wouldn't be enjoying his TV if it was 100V.
He would be running around Sydney looking for a step-down transformer and slapping himself in the face

        • +3

Because thats what people do in Sydney run around and slap themselves :)

    • Works fine, just needs and adaptor

    • Confirmed auto-selecting voltage.

It comes with an un-removable US Power plug, which I chopped off and replaced with a female IEC connector.

Normally you can just bend the pins on the US plugs to make them work with AU Sockets, but this has one of the pins keyed so it won't fit into an Australian socket.

Coincidence but I read an article on this today if anyone is interested.

4k is marketing hype, Kogan and these cheap brands will prove it. On a 39 inch panel especially, you'd never know the difference in terms of pixels. It's been proven that even bigger panels under 100 inch render 4k pixels pointless. It's still LCD, it's still got the same issues. Resolution doesn't solve LCDs more significant downfalls.

    • +1

But then, it depends on what you use it for.
Someone above has already mentioned they're using it for computer use.

The improvement of desktop space from 1080p to 1440p is pretty noticeable.

From 1440p to 2160p, that's an even bigger jump.

Great if you use it for trading/stocks.

    • I think after 55" having over 1080p will be a improvement…… however the lack of 4K media is a hype….

    • -2

A blind monkey would notice the difference of 4K, even on a smaller screen.

      (however 30hz is painful)

      • -1

From a conventional viewing distance, no they won't.

Plasma is still king, even at 1080p. LCD is fundamentally flawed, resolution at 4k or not.

Blind monkeys? Do some reading below…

I'll trust my own eyes and the reactions from customers in store thank you very much.

Plus, if you've seen the Sony 4K TV (which now supports HDMI 2.0 after firmware update) you can try something like upscaling a 'regular' 1080p console or PC game to 4K.

Even through upscaling the resolution is noticeably increased.

People should really stop commenting on things they've only read about and never actually experienced for themselves…

        • -3

Well.. I'd say that people need to stop being gullible enough to believe sales people or the fact that a certain product is marketed as 'the best', and put front and centre in the shop with HD demo material. Sound familiar? Thought so.

LED with 4k resolution is still inferior to plasma. That's just how it is. If you want to believe something else, no worries. Anyone with even minimal AV knowledge knows this. Marketing for the win!!

        • @marto. May be you need to go get your eyes checked. Everyone else can tell the difference between 4K and 1080p, but for you.

        • -1

I've got the experts in my corner champ. Read the reports I linked in my previous post, and do all the research you want.. Anyone who hasn't fallen for the marketing and knows AV, knows what's going on. Plasma is still king. So you flushed a bunch of money down the toilet? My condolences.

  • 1440p on this screen is useless. It runs at 60hz which is obviously better than 30hz, but the the resolution doesn't scale well and looks very blurry. Text is difficult to read, and the 1080p image on this absolutely smashes it for picture quality.

1080p scales perfectly on this and gives the exact same image that a 39inch 1080p screen would, with the added advantage of being able to run at 120hz.So for the cases where 30hz 2160p doesn't cut it (games mostly), you switch to 1080p @ 120hz (or 60hz) and the picture looks sharp still.

  • For anyone who is interested in the 50" model, shipping is unavailable to Australia (through Amazon) :(

  • Also, it appears that the price is now US$499.99 before shipping. Not sure if it is a temporary or permanent price increase, time will tell.
